Getty Images Investment Thesis Sandisk Corporation ( SNDK ) has become one of the most polarizing names in semiconductors in the past year. The stock has surged over 1,250% YoY, which understandably makes investors skeptical. However, when I dug into the Q2 numbers , the line that stuck out wasn't just the revenue beat or earnings surprise; it was the capex spending. $176 million on $3.03 billion in revenue, which works out to be 5.8% of sales. For context, Micron ( MU ) typically spends north of 30% , and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.'s ( SSNLF ) memory division is even more capital-intensive. Yet all three companies manufacture NAND flash memory. Sandisk's gross margins just hit 51% and are guided to 66% next quarter, while its capex burden looks more like a fabless chip designer. Q2FY26 Gross & Cash CapEx Trends ( Sandisk) The reason points to the joint venture structure with Kioxia. Sandisk has leading-edge manufacturing access and a capital-intensity profile that enable it to convert revenue into free cash flow at rates its peers cannot match. Q2 FY26 Executive Summary ( Sandisk) The Q2 revenue was $3.03B with non-GAAP EPS of $6.20, and then Q3 guidance implied another step up. What stands out to me is that even after these results, the stock still trades at roughly 15.8x forward earnings . The stock still screens like a cyclical memory name on valuation, but the cost structure is structurally different The Joint Venture Arbitrage: An Asset-Light Memory Company Flash Ventures is the joint venture with Kioxia, which dates back over 25 years and was just extended through December 2034. The JV owns and leases the equipment used for NAND wafer production. Sandisk co-develops the flash technology process and memory design that contribute to intellectual property. Kioxia handles manufacturing, and Sandisk purchases wafers from Flash Ventures at cost plus a small markup. The result is that Sandisk gets access to BiCS8, 2-terabit die, and industry-leading QLC technology...

gremlin/E+ via Getty Images Kraken Robotics Inc. ( KRKNF ) is a stock that has been on my list to research for a while now. It falls in a similar market as many of the stocks I have been digging into lately. Due to the similar market, it was brought up in the comments section of some of those articles. It is a small emerging company that is advancing tech for the defense industry. There seem to be more and more of the startup companies that are going after the defense industry and finding success. Kraken’s focus, as can be assumed by the name (really awesome name, for what it's worth), is on maritime technology. The company is beginning to reach an important transition point. It is getting into the commercialization stage of the business. This is happening now as the company’s technology and operations needed time to build up. The other factor that is at play here is the demands for the industry are starting to evolve. Maritime operations are as old as war itself, but the demands and capabilities are in the early stages for the technology that Kraken operates. The company owns and operates its own manufacturing facilities and is expanding those to meet market demand. I continue to be on the hunt for manufacturers that are advancing the defense industry for the US market. The company has moved past the R&D stage and into the execution stage. Their technology is being used in the field; they are seeing contract wins and have a product that is seeing increased demand. The question for the business now starts to come down to whether the company can execute at scale and convert that technology into revenue and profit. Growth and potential are expected by investors as the company trades at a rich valuation. Company Overview Kraken operates as a maritime technology company. It supplies high-resolution sensors, advanced sonar, power systems, subsea battery solutions, underwater robotics, and inspection services for both military and commercial customers. The company operate...

New research published Thursday bolsters growing concerns that a handful of companies and countries are using the global atmospheric commons as a dumping ground for potentially toxic and climate-altering industrial waste byproducts from loosely regulated commercial space flights. The new study analyzed a plume of pollution trailing part of a Falcon rocket that crashed through the upper atmosphere on Feb. 19, 2025, after SpaceX lost control of its reentry. The rocket was launched earlier that month, carrying 20 to 22 Starlink satellites into orbit. The authors said it is the first time debris from a specific spacecraft disintegration has been traced and measured in the near-space region about 80 to 110 kilometers above Earth. Changes there can affect the stratosphere, where ozone and climate processes operate. Until recent years, human activities had little impact in that region. Read full article Comments

The company makes a big deal about its Autoship subscription program, which allows customers to schedule recurring deliveries in exchange for a small discount. Nearly 84% of revenue now comes from what Chewy calls Autoship customer sales. At first glance, you might think that "Autoship customer sales" represents sales made through the Autoship program. If that were the case, it would certainly be impressive and indicate that most of Chewy's revenue is recurring and predictable. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Instead, Chewy has carefully crafted a murky metric meant to dazzle investors. Image source: Getty Images. Continue reading

Havana declared two days of national mourning as of January 5 after a total of 32 Cubans were killed during the US attack on Caracas that culminated in the capture of Venezuela's president Nicolas Maduro. Adalberto Roque | Afp | Getty Images The U.S. Supreme Court is set to explore legal questions arising from the fraught history of U.S.-Cuban relations when it considers the scope of a 1996 law that lets U.S. nationals seek compensation for property confiscated by the communist-led Cuban government. The justices hear arguments on Monday in two cases centered on the federal law called the Helms-Burton Act, one involving U.S. oil major ExxonMobil and the other involving the cruise lines Carnival , Royal Caribbean , Norwegian Cruise Line and MSC Cruises. One of the law's provisions, called Title III, allows for lawsuits in U.S. courts against entities that "traffic" in property confiscated by the Cuban government after the revolution that brought Fidel Castro to power in 1959. While the two cases focus on distinct legal issues, both raise the question of just how powerful a remedy Congress intended Title III to be. In both cases, the Supreme Court has the opportunity to eliminate barriers that claimants face in bringing Helms-Burton Act lawsuits. The justices have never before interpreted Title III, which Congress authorized the U.S. president to suspend if deemed "necessary to the national interests of the United States." Title III was long dormant due to presidential decisions to suspend it. But President Donald Trump, who has taken a hard line toward Cuba, lifted that suspension during his first term in office, unleashing a wave of about 40 lawsuits filed in 2019 and 2020 that have slowly made their way through the courts. Trump's administration has declared Cuba "an u...
