In this article JPM Follow your favorite stocks CREATE FREE ACCOUNT President Donald Trump (L), and JP Morgan CEO, Jamie Dimon. Reuters JPMorgan Chase acknowledged for the first time that it closed the bank accounts of President Donald Trump and several of his businesses in the political and legal aftermath of the Jan. 6, 2021, attacks on the U.S. Capitol, the latest development in a legal saga over the controversial practice of "debanking." The acknowledgment came in a court filing submitted this week in Trump's lawsuit against the bank and its leader, Jamie Dimon . The president sued for $5 billion, alleging that his accounts were closed for political reasons, disrupting his business operations. "In February 2021, JPMorgan informed Plaintiffs that certain accounts maintained with JPMorgan's CB and PB would be closed," JPMorgan's former chief administrative officer Dan Wilkening wrote in the court filing. The "PB" and "CB" stands for JPMorgan's private bank and commercial bank. Until now, JPMorgan has never admitted it closed the president's accounts, and would only speak hypothetically about when the bank closes accounts and its reasons for closing accounts. Emails and text messages to a spokesman for the bank were not returned. Trump originally sued JPMorgan in Florida state court, where Trump's primary residence is now located. JPMorgan Chase is looking to have the case moved to New York, which is where the bank accounts were located and where Trump kept much of his business operations until recently. Trump accuses the bank of trade libel and accuses Dimon himself of violating Florida's Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act. In the original lawsuit, Trump alleges he tried to raise the issue personally with Dimon after the bank started to close his accounts, and that Dimon assured Trump he would figure out what was happening. The lawsuit alleges Dimon failed to follow up with Trump. Further, Trump's lawyers allege that JPMorgan placed the president and his com...

Great Britain 6-9 Canada Mouat’s side take silver after falling short in last end Sometimes the silvers you win feel more like the golds you lose. After an excruciatingly tense three-hour final, there’s no doubt which way Bruce Mouat and the British men’s curling team will see this one. They were beaten 9-6 by Canada, in a game that took several twists and turns on its way to the very last stone of the 10th end. It is their second Olympic silver medal, after the one they won when they lost to Sweden in Beijing in 2022. After 10 days of competition, the Olympic title is still the one thing in the sport that this world champion team haven’t won, and that will sting. The British rink had the better start. They forced Canada to settle for one from the 1st end, even though they had last stone advantage. But Grant Hardie is a gnarly competitor and he and his team worked their way into a 4-3 lead at halfway with a couple of double take-outs in the 3rd and 5th ends. In the 4th, when Britain had the hammer, they were made to play the same clearing shot four times in a row, before Hardie finally nailed it. Then Mouat missed with his penultimate stone, which clipped his own guard on its way home. Continue reading...

It's no secret that mining commodity prices, in this case copper and lithium, can be volatile, and it's hard to predict where they are heading. Still on the basis that current prices are the best estimate of where prices will be in a year or so, both Freeport-McMoRan (NYSE: FCX) and Albemarle (NYSE: ALB) look like unmissable value. Here's why. Ultimately, the idea is that both stocks have less downside potential than upside, making them good value stocks looking for asymmetric stock picks. Freeport-McMoRan looks like a great value for three reasons. First, in every earnings presentation, the company lays out its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization ( EBITDA ) sensitivity to copper prices. The last update for EBITDA in 2027/2028 assumes $11 billion at a price of copper of $4 per pound, and $19 billion at a price of $6 per pound. Given that the current price is $5.66, a rough estimate would be $17.6 billion, and assuming the current enterprise value (EV) of $96.9 billion, Freeport would trade on an EV/EBITDA multiple of just 5.5 times in 2027 -- a historically very favorable valuation. Data from Germany in the coming days will shed light on whether Europe’s largest economy is on the cusp of a meaningful revival or still being hampered by Donald Trump ’s tariffs and its own chronic shortcomings. Releases will include the premier indicator of economic mood, from the Ifo Institute, and a closer look at the nation’s fourth-quarter performance, which topped expectations. There’ll also be monthly updates on consumer sentiment and unemployment. Analysts reckon Ifo’s barometers of expectations and how firms view current conditions will tick up slightly on Monday, tracking improvements already seen in surveys of purchasing managers. As well as beating forecasts, those polls delivered the long-awaited news that Germany’s manufacturing sector is growing again — for the first time since 2022. Wednesday will see Germany’s statistics office flesh out the reasons behind a 0.3% advance in gross domestic product at the end of 2025, having initially attributed the success to spending by households and the government. The Bundesbank has also cited growth in industry and notable strength in construction. A rebound in the former is seen as crucial for Germany to shake off years of stagnating or shrinking output. As well as the PMIs, factory orders shot up in December — suggesting the large sums Germany is spending on rebuilding its infrastructure and military are starting to be felt. An industrial revival would be welcomed by Chancellor Friedrich Merz , who’s struggling to convince Germans of his economic vision and facing calls from business leaders to make good on promises to slash bureaucracy and boost competitiveness. What Bloomberg Economics Says: “We don’t anticipate a meaningful near-term economic acceleration in Germany, forecasting growth of 0.2% in the first quarter of 2026 and 0.3% in the second quarter. Increased public spending on infrastructure and defense is expected to provide a larger boost in the second half of 2026, lifting quarterly GDP growth to 0...

Its title comes from the colour of the official dismissal notices. Continue reading...

White House Ready To Offer Iran "Token" Nuclear Enrichment Instead Of All-Out War When it comes to the potential of achieving a lasting US-Iran deal centered on the country's nuclear program, headlines have been changing rapidly, on a daily basis - as the specter of another US-led regime change war in the Middle East looms. Axios is reporting that the latest big diplomatic option the Trump White House is mulling is a proposal that allows Iran "token" nuclear enrichment - but with no path to a bomb , according to unnamed US officials. via Iranian state media But alongside this are the typical 'military options' which have been reported for weeks, with Trump currently said to be considering 'limited' strikes, or even decapitation attacks to take out the Ayatollah and top leadership - though concerns are this would unleash uncontrollable full war, given Tehran's retaliation would likely be all-out. Axios says of negotiations and the "token" enrichment option - that " This suggests there could be an opening, if only a small one , between the red lines set by the U.S. and Iran for a deal to constrain Iran's nuclear capabilities and prevent war." The unspoken irony and contradiction in all of this - which the Iranians are fully aware of - is that this is precisely what the original Iran JCPOA nuclear deal under Obama aimed for. Trump, of course, during his first term pulled the US out of the deal, in April 2018, finding it insufficient. "President Trump will be ready to accept a deal that would be substantive and that he can sell politically at home . If the Iranians want to prevent an attack they should give us an offer we can't refuse. The Iranians keep missing the window. If they play games there won't be a lot of patience," a senior American official told Axios . All of this has led to premature reports that Washington has already 'accepted' a scheme whereby Iran could keep its nuclear program , for domestic energy purposes. Yet the two sides in reality appear nowhere...
