Critics accuse administration of ‘cooking the books’ by claiming US would save $1.3bn from climate finding reversal The Trump administration claims its latest move to gut climate regulations and end all greenhouse gas standards for vehicles will save Americans money. But its own analysis indicates that the new rule will push up gas prices, and that the benefits of the rollback are unlikely to outweigh the costs. On Thursday, the president and his environmental secretary Lee Zeldin announced the finalized repeal of the endangerment finding, a legal determination which underpins virtually all federal climate regulations. He claimed the rollback would save the US $1.3tn by 2055. Continue reading...

Thai cuisine’s most delicious curry is also its most complex. Thankfully, our resident perfectionist is here to help you master your massaman Bickering pleasantly over the menu in a Thai restaurant with my family recently, I realised I was unable to explain exactly what a gaeng massaman was, beyond the fact it was probably a safe bet for those concerned about the three chillies next to the green curry ( a dish I first tackled for this column back in 2010 ). The gap in my repertoire was explained later when I opened David Thompson ’s pink bible of Thai Food and learned that “a mussaman curry is the most complex, time-consuming Thai curry to make”. The fact the esteemed Australian chef also describes it as “the most delicious” is scant comfort given I’ve just promised my editor I’ll make at least six of the things … but then I remember how incredibly tasty it is, and knuckle down to my research. Though the first recipe dates from 1899, massaman, whose name suggests an association with the country’s Muslim minority, probably dates back to the 17th century, and reflects either Persian or Malaysian influence, or perhaps that of the Indian and Middle Eastern spice traders who travelled through southern Thailand on their way to China. It’s unusual in its use of dried spices like cumin and cinnamon, bay leaves and cloves alongside more classic Thai aromatics like lemongrass and galangal to create a richly savoury gravy that cloaks the protein and potatoes like a warm hug direct from Bangkok. Straightforward enough if you have a Thai specialist nearby, it’s still more of a weekend project than a weeknight dinner, but a very worthwhile one nonetheless. Continue reading...

Tesla’s plan to start supporting CarPlay in its vehicles has been held back by the need for changes in iOS 26’s Maps app. Also: Apple hits fresh snags with its attempt to revamp Siri ; new details on iOS 27; and some fun news about the upcoming low-cost MacBook . Last week in Power On : Apple prepares to kick off 2026 with iPhone 17e, new iPads and Macs. The Starters Last year, Tesla Inc. embarked on a plan to bring Apple Inc.’s CarPlay system to its vehicles as early as the end of 2025. At the time, sales were soft, and the car company faced pressure to boost demand. Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk also was aiming to secure a pay package valued at roughly $1 trillion. Believe it or not, adding CarPlay was seen as a key piece in making that happen. The iPhone-like interface is a must-have item for many buyers, and Tesla could finally give them what they wanted. Just as consumers are glued to their iPhones, they are equally attached to CarPlay — and prefer it over the complex, often clunky infotainment systems that automakers have developed. On this front, though, Tesla was in a better position than rivals. Its infotainment software is widely regarded as the best in the industry, serving as the control center for the company’s full-self-driving system and integrating deeply with its other services. It also offers robust support for music streaming, including Apple Music and Spotify, along with a web browser, apps, video playback, and standard car controls for maps, seats and climate systems. That allowed Tesla to hold off on offering CarPlay for a long time. But if you ask the carmaker’s salespeople or browse forums like Reddit, you’ll find there are countless people who would love their Teslas even more — or might buy one for the first time — if CarPlay were supported. That’s why our November report that Tesla had decided to move in this direction generated so much excitement. Then the end of the year passed, and CarPlay was still nowhere to be found in the vehicl...

Tim Robberts/DigitalVision via Getty Images Co-authored by Kody's Dividends Over the last month, I have covered a handful of different utility investment opportunities. These are companies that operate as the backbone of economic activity within the United States. If you didn't have these different utilities, we wouldn't have the power to manufacture the goods that we enjoy every day. If these utilities didn't exist, there wouldn't be water pouring out of your faucet or natural gas to run your furnace and keep you warm at night. When utilities stop functioning as expected, pandemonium breaks out. Could you imagine if you woke up tomorrow and there was no more power, no more natural gas flowing through the pipes, and no more water coming out of the faucet? Could you imagine if this were the reality you could expect to go on perpetually unless you found a source of water, natural gas, and generated your own power? For the vast majority of Americans, they have no idea or the wherewithal to replace the utilities they desperately rely on every single day. We have a generalized faith in the companies that they will provide us with what we're paying for. While we may grumble from time to time about the cost of the bill or the increase in prices that occur, we also generally, begrudgingly, accept that we are reliant upon them. This is one reason why I enjoy buying up shares of various utilities across the entire country. These companies provide essential services to the vast majority of Americans, irreplaceable services we rely upon every single day. Because of this reliance, they provide reliable and growing dividends as well as capital gains to my portfolio. Today, I want to take a look at a utility that focuses on power and natural gas for millions of Americans. Let's dive in! Economic Development Is Supporting A Massive Capital Plan WEC Energy Group January 2026 Investor Presentation WEC Energy Group ( WEC ) is a regulated electric and gas utility. WEC is among the bigg...

peshkov/iStock via Getty Images Introduction In recent months, artificial intelligence has resulted in excitement in the overall market. For 2025, Technology ( XLK ) stocks carried the S&P ( SP500 ) to another double-digit year, up more than 16%. However, AI has also caused disruption, notably in the trucking & logistics industry. Old Dominion Freight Line ( ODFL ) saw shares fall due to threats from Algorhythm Holdings ( RIME ). The little-known AI company is said to enable teams to improve freight volumes without the headcount. Expected to significantly increase loads per year, this spooked investors and led to a sell-off among trucking companies like ODFL. In my opinion, this is a nothing burger, and I think the stock is a quality holding to consider inside a diversified portfolio. But growth appears fully priced in as the stock trades near 40x earnings. In this article, I discuss Old Dominion Freight Line's latest earnings fundamentals and why their valuation and economic uncertainty keep me cautious. Previous Thesis I last covered ODFL in an article back in June of 2025 titled: Valuation More Attractive, But Additional Downside Could Be Near . Higher for longer interest rates, rising costs, and lower volumes presented near-term headwinds. Although the stock has experienced a pullback, their valuation remained elevated with a forward P/E above 30x. As a result, I suggested investors wait for another 10% - 20% drop before adding. Tariffs and further economic weakening were also risks. But their dividend, well-covered by cash flows, and strong fundamentals made ODFL an ideal long-term holding. Since the stock is up close to 24% in comparison to the S&P, it is up close to 15%. Seeking Alpha Q4 Results Show Persistent Headwinds Old Dominion Freight Line reported Q4 earnings and posted a double beat. EPS amounted to $1.09, a beat by $0.03. Revenue of $1.31 billion managed to beat $10 million. Despite the double-beat, both top and bottom lines declined from the prior ...

So-CoAddict/iStock Unreleased via Getty Images I last wrote an article about Stanley Black & Decker ( SWK ) back in July 2025. At that time I was bullish because the stock traded for just about $67 per share, and I felt the shares were "on sale." Since that article was published, this stock has provided total returns of about 39%, greatly outperforming the S&P 500 Index ( SPY )'s total returns of around 8%. A lot has happened since my last article, and the company just reported Q4 results, so let's take an updated look at this stock: stanleyblackanddecker.com Q4 Earnings Results On February 4th, Stanley Black & Decker released what I viewed as being solid Q4 results , especially considering all the headwinds. Tariffs and some weakness in the lower end consumer are some of the challenges that impacted Q4 and will continue to be issues that management needs to grapple with going forward. The company reported non-GAAP earnings of $1.41 per share, which beat estimates by $0.13. Revenues came in at $3.7 billion, missing estimates by about $80 million. For 2026 guidance, the company expects earnings to range from $4.90 to $5.62 per share on an adjusted basis. The company said that debt reduction remains a top priority, and I believe these better-than-expected earnings results show that the company's cost reduction efforts are achieving results. As shown below, this company reported growth when it comes to gross margins and net income as well as delivering strong free cash flow. Gross margins of 33.2% were up 240 basis points, and this was possible due to a combination of price increases, supply chain cost reductions, and tariff mitigation efforts. The company generated $956 million in operating cash flow and $883 million in free cash flow. This is more than enough to support the roughly $500 million the company pays out annually in dividends. I believe this company is clearly delivering on cost cutting goals and improving margins, but with a 1% decline in net sales, a sal...

Kalulu was sent off after Inter’s Alessandro Bastoni tumbled to the ground and immediately gestured towards the referee demanding a card, indicating that Kalulu had grabbed his shirt to bring him down. Television footage suggested there was no contact between the players. Juventus, down to 10 men after the sending off, lost 3-2, meaning Inter are now eight points clear at the top.
