Are you worried about an artificial intelligence (AI) bubble? You're not alone if you are. Fears abound in the media that AI stocks are going through the same cycle internet stocks did during the dot-com boom and crash in the late 90s and early 2000s. AI stocks have generated incredible returns over the past three years but it's always a good idea to hedge your bets. And the business I want to talk about today is a consumer discretionary company has absolutely nothing to do with AI, so it ought to make a solid hedge against it and allow you to profit from what seems to be the company's recovery from two years of struggle. In 2026, Elon Musk is proposing an initial public offering (IPO) for SpaceX. The IPO, when and if it happens , won't make it the biggest company in the world. At $1.5 trillion in presumed market capitalization, a newly public SpaceX will still lag multiple tech companies in value -- Alphabet , Apple , Nvidia , and Microsoft , to name just a few. By at least one measure, though, a 2026 SpaceX IPO is likely to be the biggest one in history. Musk reportedly hopes to raise as much as $50 billion, eclipsing Saudi Aramco's 2019 IPO, which raised "only" $29.4 billion. Everyone seems to have a theory about how the IPO will play out. I actually have three such theories. (One or more of them might even be correct.) Continue reading

Heroin. Crack. Maybe meth or ket. Those substances that steal your soul and slowly wreak havoc on your body. They’re imagining Trainspotting; too-skinny frames and protruding hip bones, the physical effects of addiction that are impossible to miss. But that isn’t how it played out in my family. Even a ride or a water park – things have weight limits,” says Melody Ewert, 44, from Minnesota. Ewert has just switched from Eli Lilly’s Zepbound weekly injection to Novo Nordisk’s new daily Wegovy pill. Analysts believe the arrival of easy-to-take tablets could push weight-loss treatments further into the mainstream in a year that has been described as “pivotal” for the booming anti-obesity market. The new pills, like the jabs, mimic the gut hormone GLP-1 that regulates appetite. Continue reading...

Our studies in civil resistance offer insight into the level of popular organizing needed to repel assaults on democracy In the wake of two horrifying killings of legal observers in Minnesota, on top of the abduction of countless immigrant community members, the country has reached a turning point. Backlash against ICE’s lawlessness and aggression has reverberated so loudly that even Trump has heard it. But the effects on ordinary Americans contemplating what they would do if they lived in Minneapolis or St Paul is perhaps even more profound. The extraordinary level of grassroots solidarity and creative resistance in anti-ICE protests in Minnesota has given people a new appreciation for the power that mass non-cooperation can have in resisting the Trump administration’s drive toward authoritarianism. And it has created an awareness of why such action is clearly needed. Mark and Paul Engler are co-directors of the Whirlwind Institute , a social change strategy center. A new and expanded 10th anniversary edition of their book This Is An Uprising : How Nonviolent Revolt Is Shaping the Twenty-first Century has just been released. Continue reading...

The Beloved author’s refusal to conform made her a hero to many – and the only black female writer to have won a Nobel prize in literature There are many ways to be difficult in this world. You can be demanding, inconvenient, stubborn, complicated, troublesome, baffling, illegible. Black womanhood is one place where all these forms of difficulty overlap. I feel like I have always known this; I have been called difficult more times in my life than I can count. But I only began to understand – to discover the meanings and uses of – my own difficulty because of Toni Morrison. Morrison has shaped the way we think about everything from literature to politics, criticism to ethics, to the responsibilities of making art. In 1993 she became the only black woman ever to win the Nobel prize in literature. But the facts remain: she is difficult to read. She is difficult to teach. Notwithstanding the voluminous train of profiles, reviews and scholarly analysis that she drags behind her, she is difficult to write about. More to the point, she is our only truly canonical black female writer – and her work is highly complex. Continue reading...

A Month After Mass Amnesty For Illegals, Spain Urges Brussels To Take Migrants Off Its Hands Authored by Thomas Brooke via Remix News, The Spanish government has asked the European Commission to help facilitate the redistribution of migrants arriving in the Canary Islands to other parts of Europe as part of a broader package of measures aimed at easing the demands placed on the archipelago. Economy, Trade and Business Minister Carlos Cuerpo outlined the proposals in Spain’s Congress of Deputies on Wednesday during a question session with Canary Coalition deputy Cristina Valido, who raised concerns about pressures facing the islands. Cuerpo said Madrid had submitted a package of initiatives to Brussels designed to reinforce economic and social stability in the region, adding the government was willing to examine “all proposals” aimed at guaranteeing the archipelago’s “territorial cohesion.” 🚨 The Spanish government says it has asked the European Commission to transfer the illegal immigrants who arrive in the Canary Islands to the other EU countries. The mafias must be loving it... pic.twitter.com/CKSBepVcNM — Canario Today (@CanarioToday) February 12, 2026 Cuerpo said the government is seeking mechanisms to allow redistribution of unaccompanied migrant minors and transfer migrants arriving in outermost regions to other European territories to prevent what he described as an “overconcentration” of migrants in areas such as the Canary Islands. The Spanish government is effectively asking Brussels to take immigrants off its hands and move them to other countries that have strengthened their borders, despite only last month announcing a mass amnesty for over half a million illegal immigrants, which Spanish conservatives have said is creating a pull factor for new arrivals, predominantly from the African mainland. Spain’s population has meanwhile reached record levels. Data from the National Institute of Statistics, published on Thursday and cited by La Gaceta , shows the...

A_Columbo/iStock Editorial via Getty Images In my professional experience, value investing is the best way to invest. But just like any method of making money in the market, it has its own weaknesses. One of these is that it is easy to sell out of a company earlier than might be warranted. I justify this by preferring to capture strong gains and reduce the risk of losses, even if it means making such a decision might result in missed upside. Although I did not own shares of GE Vernova ( GEV ) in the past, I was bullish on it for a few months last year. In that time, the stock had risen by 70.9%. And after that monumental rise, I made the decision to downgrade the stock to a ‘hold.’ Unfortunately, that was a bit premature. Although I believed that the valuation of the company justified it, continued strong growth by management has pushed shares higher. In fact, they are currently up 58.8% since then. By comparison, the S&P 500 is up 15.2%. Based on how the stock is priced at the moment, I am going to make a bold proclamation. And this is my view that shares are drastically overpriced at the moment. Admittedly, there is the opportunity for additional expansion. In fact, management seems quite optimistic about the trajectory that the firm should be on over the next few years. But even rapid growth only justifies so much upside. That is why I am deciding to downgrade the stock to a soft ‘sell’ right now. This does not mean that I expect shares to fall. However, I do expect them to materially underperform the market moving forward. Shares Are Just Too High A few years ago, one of my favorite companies to analyze was General Electric. It was a large and complex business going through issues. Management ultimately made the decision to sell off some assets while spinning off the rest. What was the General Electric family of companies back then largely consisted of three separate publicly traded firms. And one of these is none other than GE Vernova, which focuses on providin...
