ljubaphoto/E+ via Getty Images Introduction Major tobacco company British American Tobacco p.l.c. ( BTI , BTAFF ) reported its results for 2025 yesterday. It is the third tobacco company in a row whose annual results I review here on Seeking Alpha, following my articles on Altria Group, Inc. ( MO ) and Philip Morris International Inc. ( PM ). This update on British American Tobacco is quite a bit more important than my last two articles on MO and PM because I haven't reviewed the company in more than a year. Furthermore, in my last article —published in November of 2024—I focused more on the potential impact of donations from President Trump than on the company's operations. In this article, I'll give an update on British American's cigarette portfolio—after all, it remains the core driver of free cash flow. Speaking of which, the company reported a 37% year-over-year decline in operating cash flow, which therefore warrants a close look in view of the dividend coverage and debt servicing capacity. Moreover, I'll share my take on BTI's smoke-free products portfolio, discussing both positive and negative developments in its key domains. When appropriate, I draw comparisons with British American's closest peer, Philip Morris International. On a side note, I continue to review BTI starting with 2018, the first full-year after the acquisition of Reynolds American Inc. British American Tobacco 2025 Results Review Surprisingly Strong Performance In Modern Oral Overshadowed By Disappointments In E-Vapor And Heated Tobacco For 2025, British American Tobacco delivered adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of £3.521, up 3.4% year-over-year, based on net revenues of £25.6 billion, down 1.0% year-over-year (Figure 1). The U.S. dollar weakness in 2025 was the main driver of the 3.1 percentage point currency-related headwind, so on a currency-neutral basis, BTI reported net revenue growth of 2.1%. Figure 1: British American Tobacco p.l.c. (BTI, BTAFF): Net revenues since 2018 (own wor...

" Individuals who voluntarily provide information about such violations or conspiracies to commit violations may be eligible for awards if the information they provide leads to a successful enforcement action by the Department of the Treasury (Treasury) or the Department of Justice (DOJ) that results in monetary penalties exceeding $1,000,000 , and the requirements in 31 U.S.C. § 5323 and its implementing regulation are otherwise met. Earnings Call Insights: CareTrust REIT (CTRE) Q4 2025 Management View David Sedgwick, CEO, described 2025 as a “transformational year” for CareTrust, highlighting a record pace of investments and the company’s expansion into the U.K. care home market and the U.S. senior housing operating portfolio (SHOP). Sedgwick stated, “We got to work. Doubling our team of professionals, adding firepower throughout the organization and bringing in-house other areas like tax and data science, and we executed, acquiring Care REIT, including their team, to enter the U.K. care home market and closing on our first SHOP deal after methodically evaluating many opportunities, large and small along the way.” Sedgwick noted the company’s market cap grew 61% to $8.2 billion in 2025 and attributed a 17.3% year-over-year normalized FFO per share growth to recent strategic moves. He emphasized ongoing momentum into 2026, citing a “deep and capable” team and the addition of U.K. care homes and SHOP as new growth engines. James Callister, Chief Investment Officer, reported that during Q4, CareTrust completed approximately $562 million in investments, including the first SHOP deal and several skilled nursing and senior housing acquisitions, with a blended stabilized yield of 8.8%. Callister added, “Since year-end, we've closed on another approximately $215 million of investments… Our investment pipeline remains strong, sitting at approximately $500 million.” Derek Bunker, CFO, stated, “For the fourth quarter, normalized FFO increased 42.7% over the prior year quarter to $104.1 million and normalized FAD increased 38.7% to $103 million. On a per share basis, normalized FFO increased $0.07 or 17.5% to $0.47 per share and normalized FAD increased $0.05 or 12.2% to $0.46 per share.” Bunker announced initial 2026 normalized FFO and FAD per share guidance of $1.90 to $1.95, “the midpoints of which each represent a year-over-year increase of 9.4%.” Outlook Bunker’s guidance for fiscal year 2026 is norma...

President and CEO of Arista Networks Jayshree Ullal Scott Mlyn | CNBC Shares of Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices moved in opposite directions on Friday, after the CEO of Arista Networks told investors that her company is seeing some deployment shifting to AMD. Nvidia's stock fell almost 3%, while AMD gained close to 1%. "A year ago, it was pretty much 99% Nvidia, right?" Ullal said on Arista's earnings call late Thursday, when asked by an analyst about the company's work with AMD. "Today, when we look at our deployments, we see about 20%, maybe a little more, 20% to 25%, where AMD is becoming the preferred accelerator of choice." The stock moves weren't dramatic, but Ullal's comments are notable because Nvidia has dominated the market for graphics processing units (GPUs) in AI since the industry started taking off a little over three years ago with the launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT. Nvidia currently has roughly 90% of the the market for AI chips, with challenges potentially coming from AMD as well as Google , which is seeing increased traction for its tensor processing units. Nvidia is the most valuable U.S. company, with a market cap of over $4.5 trillion. AMD is worth about $335 billion after an 85% jump in its stock price in the past 12 months. Arista's role in the AI infrastructure boom is in providing the Ethernet switching technology that connects powerful chips together. AMD announced late last year that it was partnering with Arista to build customized AI clusters that could be used for training and inference. But for Arista, much of the diversification in its deployments is coming out of necessity. Nvidia has diminished its need for Arista's technology by building its own networking technology to link together its powerful GPUs. In October, Nvidia said that Meta and Oracle would be adopting the chipmaker's networking technology in their ecosystems, an announcement that contributed to a 10% drop in Arista's stock over two days. It's "not the end of the world b...

Two federal immigration officers have been placed on administrative leave after a joint review by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Justice found sworn testimony in a Minneapolis shooting case contradicted video evidence, acting ICE Director Todd Lyons said in a statement. The development comes nearly a month after a federal officer shot a Venezuelan national in the leg during a confrontation in Minneapolis on Jan. 14, an incident that fell between two high-profile shootings that intensified tensions between state leaders and the Trump administration over immigration enforcement operations. “A joint review by ICE and the Department of Justice of video evidence has revealed that sworn testimony provided by two separate officers appears to have made untruthful statements,” Lyons said in the statement. Earlier this week, the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota moved to dismiss with prejudice the criminal complaint against Alfredo Alejandro Aljorna and Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, two individuals charged in connection with the shooting incident. In the motion, federal prosecutors said “newly discovered evidence in this matter is materially inconsistent with the allegations in the Complaint Affidavit” and the preliminary hearing testimony. The officers could face termination and potential criminal prosecution for lying under oath, a serious federal offense, Lyons said. The Jan. 14 incident occurred against a backdrop of heightened tension in Minneapolis, where thousands of federal agents had surged into the city as part of a sweeping immigration crackdown by the Trump administration. The shooting came one week after the fatal shooting of Renée Good, a local woman, by an ICE agent, which touched off angry protests. Federal agents began arriving in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area in early December under what ICE called “Operation Metro Surge.” White House border czar Tom Homan said this week that the surge of agents would end.

Andrew Caballero-Reynolds | AFP | Getty Images President Donald Trump 's iron grip on the Republican Party might be starting to loosen, just a bit. The few elected Republicans who regularly cross him — including Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie and Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina — are more vocal than ever. And in recent days, daylight has emerged between the president and a handful of his top supporters in Congress. The apparent shift is underway as Trump, the Republican Party's undisputed leader, grapples with stubbornly low approval ratings — especially on the economy , a perennial issue on which he was elected that has only grown more important to Americans chafing under high prices. Six U.S. House Republicans voted this week to overturn Trump's tariffs on Canada. Tillis remained resolute in holding up the president's Fed chair nomination in protest over a Justice Department investigation of the current one. The administration pulled back the sustained anti-immigration law enforcement push in Minnesota. And fallout from the Epstein files — in which Trump and allies are mentioned — is roiling the world and its most powerful players. Democrats are jumping on the opening, with some pushing a narrative that " the tide is turning " on Trump. Their perceived momentum follows big wins in last fall's off-year elections after hammering an affordability message, and as prediction markets favor them to win control of the House in the midterms. "Trump's grip on power is slipping," Rep. Jim McGovern , D-Mass., said Thursday in a gloating social media post. "Nobody is taking his bulls--- that somehow he's lowering prices for families." The administration's efforts this week to wrest the affordability narrative — by drawing attention to Trump's drug-pricing initiatives , or to gains in the stock market , or t...
