Night at the opera theme for designer’s autumn/winter collection brings elegant gowns draped in opulent coats Five years ago, Covid prevented Michael Kors celebrating 40 years as a fashion designer; nothing was going to stop him partying when he reached 45. “It’s crazy, I’ve been in fashion 45 years, but I’m only 32,” said Kors, 66. The sweeping double staircase of the New York Metropolitan Opera House became the catwalk for a fashion week show dedicated to the chic women of the city. On Kors’ best dressed list right now is the “amazing, remarkable” Rama Duwaji, the city’s first lady as wife of the mayor, Zohran Mamdani. “The way she dresses takes me back to the first term of the Obamas, so smart and so chic,” Kors said before the show. “Before that time, a first lady portrait meant a suit with puff sleeves and a bow and some pearls, and then all of a sudden there was Mrs Obama, wearing a simple jersey dress with her arms bare. It was modern.” Continue reading...

Andrii Dodonov/iStock via Getty Images Fourth Quarter Market Discussion While AI dominated the 2025 equity market narrative, many perceived beneficiaries experienced a late fourth-quarter pullback. Despite this late volatility, overall market breadth narrowed as mega-cap stocks significantly outperformed during the first six weeks of the quarter. The Russell 2000® Index of small stocks returned 2.19% in the final three months of the year, trailing the 2.66% gain for the S&P 500. Reflecting on 2025, we are pleased with the Strategy’s absolute performance. While we never want to underperform, we’re not surprised that keeping up with broad indices has proven challenging. Speculative investors have confidently rewarded perceived AI winners with unsustainably high valuations. Only time will tell whether fundamentals will remain strong enough for long enough to justify the excessive valuation assigned to pockets of the equity market. Despite what appeared to be a one-way-train equity market in 2025, it’s worth noting that volatility in shares of seeming winners serves as a reminder that nobody knows which companies will be long-term winners from the proliferation of AI. For instance, we previously owned a holding that was widely viewed as an AI leader owing to the company’s strategy to be an arms dealer of datacenter capacity. We appeared foolish for eliminating the position in August when shares rose over 40% from our exit price following the company’s second quarter earnings report in September. We sold the company because capital spending skyrocketed to a point where it was no longer generating free cash flow, a first in over thirty years. The market added more than $300 billion to its market capitalization because of a large order from OpenAI. By early December, more than $500 billion was erased from the company’s capitalization as the market began questioning how OpenAI would fund the order. By OpenAI’s own admission, it will not be profitable until 2028 at the earli...

Nikada/iStock Unreleased via Getty Images Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited ( MLCO ) reported the company's Q4 results on the 12th of February. The casino operator's earnings showed clear gains as Macau's gaming market has performed well, but earnings still seemed to disappoint more ambitious market expectations. The stock ended the day down by nearly -13%. I believe that the stock's weakness now presents a potential buying opportunity, as Macau has a good 2026 outlook ahead. I maintained a Hold rating on the stock in my previous June 2025 article , titled “ Melco Resorts: Eyeing The Thailand Market.” The stock has since lost -14% of its value, losing clearly to the S&P 500's 14% gain. My Rating History on MLCO (Seeking Alpha) Melco Q4 Review Melco reported solid overall Q4 results . Total revenues grew by 8.6% to $1.29 billion, and adjusted EBITDA grew by 11.0% to $300 million. Topline and earnings growth decelerated slightly from previous quarters but remained good regardless. The quarter's revenues and EPS both beat Wall Street's consensus estimates. MLCO Q4'25 Investor Presentation Driving Melco's growth, the Macau gaming market has continued to show major growth. The overall market experienced 15.0% year-on-year growth in GGR during Q4, also leading Melco to report good financials in its two most important properties. City of Dreams Macau reported a 14% increase in GGR, and Studio City showed a 7% GGR increase. The two properties' EBITDA grew by 38% and 7% year-on-year, respectively, to $194 million and $87 million; Macau's market growth has been a clear positive for Melco's earnings. Author's Illustration Using MGICB Data There is one clear caveat. Both of Melco's key properties' GGR growth did underperform the market pace, losing some market share. The competitive environment seems to have remained challenging as operators are competing fiercely for market share. Regardless, total market growth has boosted Melco's earnings through a good GGR boost, more t...

Alexandra Palace, London Following a six-night stint in NYC, Fred Gibson returns to London for a brilliant, five-hour melange of his own tracks and wildly energising guest-star mini-sets Fred Again, AKA Fred Gibson, has been on an impressive run in recent months: a tour from Madrid to Mexico City, a six-night residency in New York, and the emergence of dozens of the songs forming his unfolding album, USB002. He now comes home to the UK; literally with this four-show residency at Alexandra Palace in London, and also in the musical homages he pays on the opening night. In succession, Gibson plays Arctic Monkeys’ When the Sun Goes Down, a techno mix of EsDeeKid’s 4 Raws, and a blend from Spice’s dancehall track So Mi Like It to the Chariots of Fire theme over a drum’n’bass beat – comedy patriotism, but very enjoyable for it, and all showing absolute disregard for any sense of purism in electronic music.
