There has been a recent sell-off in software stocks, mainly resulting from Anthropic's innovation that may allow developers to recreate software platforms that businesses pay massive subscriptions to access. However, some software developments are best left to the professionals, and cybersecurity is one of them. Do you really want to take the chance that your in-house developer created a perfect cybersecurity solution? The risk is too high, so this is an area where cybersecurity stocks are likely safe. However, they were not safe from the sell-off, so they are now down significantly from their all-time high for no good reason. One of my favorite stocks in this sector is CrowdStrike (NASDAQ: CRWD) , and I think now is an excellent time to scoop up CrowdStrike shares. Continue reading

Feverpitched Seeking Alpha's roundup of statements and remarks that could impact markets, sectors, or individual stocks. The National Association of Realtors reported that existing home sales slid 8.4% in January month-over-month and 4.4% year-over-year due in part to low inventory. "The decrease in sales is disappointing. The below-normal temperatures and above-normal precipitation this January make it harder than usual to assess the underlying driver of the decrease and determine if this month’s numbers are an aberration,” said NAR Chief Economist Dr. Lawrence Yun in a statement . "Affordability conditions are improving, with NAR’s Housing Affordability Index showing that housing is the most affordable it’s been since March 2022. This is due to wage gains outpacing home price growth and mortgage rates being lower than a year ago. However, supply has not kept pace and remains quite low," Yun added. The Russian government is considering embracing the U.S. dollar as part of a new economic partnership with the U.S. According to Bloomberg , an internal Russian government document discussed ways the two governments could work together after the end of the Ukraine war, including the promotion of fossil fuels and joint investments in natural gas, oil, and raw materials. Bloomberg added that a return to the dollar settlement system would be a marked shift in Russian policy and "could hand the Trump administration a major victory in weakening the relationship between Moscow and Beijing." The news outlet also noted the move could cause a "dramatic shake-up for global finance." White House trade advisor Peter Navarro called on JPMorgan ( JPM ) CEO Jamie Dimon to lower interest rates on the bank's credit cards. “James Dimon, lower your friggin’ credit card interest rates. You are a criminal the way you charge the American people at 22, 25, and 30%, and the president wants you to lower that,” Navarro said during an interview with Bloomberg Radio . “Jamie, until you do that, ple...

The largest sector overweight was Information Technology and the largest sector underweight was Consumer Discretionary. The Information Technology and Utilities sectors contributed to relative performance while Health Care and Consumer Discretionary were among sectors that detracted from relative performance. Market Environment U.S. equities ended the fourth quarter on a firm footing, with the S&P 500 Index returning 2.7%, extending the steady grind upward that characterized 2025, after the tariff announcements. Investor confidence was supported by a familiar trio: corporate earnings that came in better than expected, a Federal Reserve (Fed) that pushed further into an easing stance, and a macroeconomic backdrop that — despite mounting cross-currents — remained resilient in the aggregate. Market sentiment also benefited from improving clarity on trade policy, including an extension of the U.S. – China truce and selective tariff relief aimed at easing consumer affordability pressures. At the same time, the quarter was defined by widening dispersion beneath the index-level surface. The market's biggest tailwind — continued investment tied to artificial intelligence (AI) — was increasingly accompanied by scrutiny around AI infrastructure bottlenecks, sources...

halbergman Despite President Donald Trump's insistence that other countries are paying the tariffs that his administration imposed on goods coming into the U.S., research from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York released on Thursday found that most tariffs are being borne by the companies importing the goods. During the course of 2025, though, some of the cost of the duties did shift to exporters, they suggest. The year started with an average tariff rate of 2.6% spiked in April and May and ended the year at 13%, the New York Fed researchers said. For the first eight months of last year, 94% of the tariff cost fell to U.S. importers, with the rest on foreign exporters. In November, though, the proportion shouldered by U.S. importers declined to 86%, meaning 14% was carried by the exporters. "In sum, U.S. firms and consumers continue to bear the bulk of the economic burden of the high tariffs imposed in 2025," the researchers said . Welcome to Bloomberg’s Texas Edition — covering all the industries and people driving America’s second-largest economy, from finance and oil to tech and sports. Join us each week for an inside look at Texas through a Bloomberg lens. Sign up here if you’re not already on the list. Not long ago, Chevron Corp. was headed for a trial in January over allegations that it negligently spilled toxic water and crude oil on a 22,000-acre ranch in West Texas. No more. Silence has fallen over the case after Houston-based Chevron reached a settlement with Crane County rancher Ashley Watt in December. Neither side is discussing the terms. And then this twist: Chevron bought the property , according to a transaction logged by the county on Feb. 3. (As is customary in Texas, no price was disclosed.) For David Wethe and Kevin Crowley, it was the latest development in their extended reporting on troubles underneath the Permian Basin, where too much wastewater is spreading across America’s biggest oil field — imperiling a source of crude that has become a cornerstone of global petroleum markets. The fight at Antina Ranch began in 2021, when Watt discovered a leak from an old well that had supposedly been cemented shut years ago. The pollution put the water supply at risk, and Watt removed her cattle. Other wells nearby had the same problem, some sending geysers of toxic water in the air. Watt’s attorney Sarah Stogner dubbed them “zombie wells,” because they were coming back to life long after being shuttered. Chevron says it will work with regulators to remediate wells if needed. The Fine Line Texas’ fifth-largest city is enjoying the attention generated by Landman, ready to welcome World Cup fans this summer and juggling the challenge of keeping a “small town” feel for a population of more than 1 million. IEA Slashes Oil Demand Growth Forecast For 2026 By Tsvetana Paraskova of OilPrice , Global oil demand is expected to rise by 850,000 barrels per day this year, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said on Thursday as it cut its growth estimate from 930,000 bpd expected last month. All the 850,000 bpd growth this year is poised to come from developing economies, with China leading the additional demand, the agency said in its closely-watched Oil Market Report for February. Petrochemical feedstock products are set to account for more than half of this year’s gains, compared with only a third in 2025 when transport fuels dominated growth, the IEA said. The agency’s forecast is well below OPEC’s estimate of 1.4 million bpd oil demand growth this year from 2025 , which the cartel reiterated in its own monthly report earlier this week. OPEC sees robust growth of 1.3 million bpd for 2027, too. The IEA today confirmed its estimate that the oil market will be in a surplus in 2026, with supply set to rise by 2.4 million bpd in 2026, to 108.6 million bpd. Growth will be roughly evenly split between non-OPEC+ and OPEC+ producers, the agency said. Last month, the IEA expected oil supply to rise by 2.5 million bpd this year, but it slightly revised down the estimate this month due to the winter storm in the United States and disruptions in other countries. In January, global oil supply plunged by 1.2 million bpd to 106.6 million bpd, as severe winter weather disrupted North American operations, while outages and export constraints curtailed Kazakh, Russian, and Venezuelan flows. But world oil supply is set to rebound in the coming months as output recovers from the plunge in January, when extreme winter weather forced the shut-in of more than 1 million bpd of output in North America, the IEA said. In addition, prolonged disruptions at Kazakhstan’s key export terminal since November were compounded by a power outage at the country’s largest oilfield, Tengiz , last month, temporar...
