Ancora could see multiple ways to win in Warner Bros. fight. Exit routes General Atlantic Chairman and CEO Bill Ford has issued a bold prediction: the two-year “exit recession” that froze liquidity and stalled private equity transactions is thawing—and quickly. “I do think M&A will come back in a significant way this year,” Ford said in an interview for the second episode of the Bloomberg Deals weekly TV show. He said he thinks 2026 could be the most active M&A market in a decade; if he’s right, Bloomberg-compiled data show that would make it a record. A potentially rather large fly in the ointment is the heavy selloff in software stocks that could have a nasty impact on PE firms’ ability to sell the software companies in their portfolios—many of which were bought at rich valuations in 2021 and will be coming toward the end of a traditional PE holding period. The rout is tied to a wave of new AI tools from companies like Anthropic, which many believe will ultimately render incumbent software-as-a-service providers obsolete. Ryan Gould appeared on Bloomberg Deals to talk through Anthropic’s surging valuation , as General Atlantic’s Ford noted the software reset and warned tech companies can’t afford to fall behind by failing to embrace AI. Also speaking on yesterday’s show was Thoma Bravo Managing Partner Holden Spaht, who pushed back against the notion that AI poses an existential threat , saying that “AI is software and software is AI—if you do it right.”...

Yet, prediction market odds suggest a humanoid robot in 2026 may be a little too optimistic. During Tesla's recent “We, Robot” event, Musk claimed the robots could perform everything from babysitting to mowing lawns, with a price tag between $20,000 and $30,000. Kajdi Szabolcs/iStock via Getty Images The U.S. Army positioned a laser-based counter-drone system made by AeroVironment ( AVAV ) near El Paso International Airport on Wednesday, a move that contributed to a roughly seven-hour suspension of flights, Reuters reported, citing two people familiar with the matter. The system, known as LOCUST, is a 20-kilowatt directed-energy weapon designed to disable drones. Its use near a civilian airport marks an uncommon instance of the military operating an advanced laser platform in a domestic setting. Such systems are viewed as a lower-cost alternative to traditional interceptor missiles for downing unmanned aircraft. The Federal Aviation Administration paused air traffic in and out of El Paso after determining the Army’s activities at nearby Fort Bliss could present potential safety concerns for commercial aircraft, government and airline officials said. Flights later resumed. The U.S. has been searching for more affordable and scalable ways to counter drones, especially around airports and major public events. The issue has gained urgency ahead of this summer’s FIFA World Cup matches and America250 celebrations. Along the southern border, the Pentagon has reported more than 1,000 drone sightings each month. AeroVironment delivered its first two LOCUST units to the Army in September 2024 under a high-energy laser prototyping program. The systems were tested at Arizona’s Yuma Proving Ground before soldiers received operational training at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. Some defense analysts have argued that counter-drone capabilities such as laser systems could play a role in President Donald Trump’s proposed “Golden Dome” missile defense concept, particularly along the U.S.-Mexico border where criminal groups have used drones for surveillance and other activities, Reuters reported Thursday. Data center startup Nscale has secured a $1.4 billion financing from lenders including Pacific Investment Management Co. and Blue Owl Capital Inc. to fund chip purchases that will be leased to customers, according to a statement. The delayed-draw term loan underscores how private credit firms are leaning into asset-backed lending tied to the artificial intelligence buildout. Luminarx Capital Management also participated in the deal, Nscale said. Nscale will use the proceeds to buy Nvidia Corp . graphics processing units for customers in Europe. It has previously worked with ByteDance and Microsoft Corp. Read more: Microsoft Cuts Fourth Nscale Deal With Texas AI Data Center Nscale had tapped Goldman Sachs Group Inc. to market the financing in March 2025. Investor appetite was tepid at the time because Nscale was little known, had only been operating for a few months and counted ByteDance as its key client in talks with investors. Since then, the company has expanded. It has partnered with Microsoft, hired executives from Palantir Technologies Inc. and JPMorgan Chase & Co., and is also in talks to raise another $2 billion in equity. Other AI companies have pursued similar financings over the past 12 months, including a deal between Elon Musk’s xAI and Valor Equity Partners that was used to buy Nvidia GPUs and lease the chips back to the startup. Pimco and Blue Owl have also worked together previously, most recently on Meta Platforms Inc.’s $30 billion financing for a data center buildout in Louisiana. AscentXmedia/iStock via Getty Images Introduction Keyera ( KEY:CA ) ( KEYUF ) is a Canadian energy infrastructure company focusing on Natural Gas Liquids. The company’s business is divided into three subdivisions: gathering and processing (Keyera owns and operates natural gas pipelines and plants that process raw natural gas into saleable end products), liquids infrastructure (related to the by-products as a result of processing natural gas), and marketing (Keyera has a marketing division and engages in liquids blending activities). The company has a strong position in the NGL market and announced in 2025 it had entered into an agreement to acquire Plains’ Canadian NGL business in a CAD 5B+ deal. This acquisition still has to close, and I think the subscription receipts offer an attractive opportunity to obtain a position in Keyera at a discount – assuming the deal will close. Data by YCharts The large acquisition of Plains’ NGL assets could be a game changer Just before the summer of last year, Keyera announced it entered into an agreement to acquire Plains All American’s ( PAA ) Canadian Natural Gas Liquids business. This was a pretty big deal for Keyera, as the CAD 5.15B purchase price represented an adjusted EBITDA multiple of approximately 7.8. Fortunately, the company had its ducks in a row as it had pre-secured funding for the deal and used the acquisition to launch a large CAD 2B+ CAD subscription receipt financing to ensure its net debt to adjusted EBITDA ratio remained within its target range of 2.5-3. Stockwatch.com The subscription receipts are now trading at a small discount to the share price (as you can see above, at the moment of writing this article, the sub receipts are at CAD 47.08, which is about 2% below the CAD 48.04 share price of the common shares), and this could be an opportunity for investors. Upon closing the transaction, the sub-receipts will be converted into common shares of Keyera, so that valuation gap should be closed immediately. T...
