The stock may be down, but the business is inflecting. Shares of Alphabet (GOOG 2.29%)(GOOGL 2.39%) are down about 7% from levels achieved earlier this month. The stock's pullback comes as many other tech stocks have declined. Investors are debating the implications of AI (artificial intelligence) on software, as well as tech giants' startling capital expenditure plans, including Alphabet's. With shares of the Google, YouTube, and Waymo parent company down sharply in such a short period, is this a good time for investors to buy Alphabet stock? After all, the underlying business isn't performing poorly. Quite the opposite, actually. Alphabet's fourth-quarter results were exceptional, with accelerating top-line growth and very strong earnings-per-share growth. AI is a major catalyst for Alphabet Alphabet's fourth-quarter revenue rose 18% year over year -- an acceleration from 16% growth in the prior quarter. Earnings per share climbed even faster, roaring 31% higher. AI, it turns out, is helping Alphabet's business inflect. "Overall, we're seeing our AI investments and infrastructure drive revenue and growth across the board," said Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai during the company's fourth-quarter earnings call. AI, Pichai explained, is not only serving as a catalyst for its compute business, Google Cloud, which saw revenue rise 48% year over year during the period and its backlog climb 55% sequentially to $240 billion, but it's also enhancing its core search business. Search, Pichai noted during the call, is seeing "an expansionary" moment, driven by AI, with more search usage in Q4 than ever before. Additionally, Pichai said that "AI is transforming the YouTube experience," with more than 1 million YouTube channels using its AI creation tools every day in December and more than 20 million viewers using its new Gemini-powered Ask tool for the whole month. And, of course, there's Alphabet's autonomous ride-sharing service, Waymo, which is now giving more than 400,000 ride...

The US and Iran may soon be taking tentative steps towards a new nuclear deal, following intensive diplomatic efforts by the Gulf monarchies and Turkey to prevent a destructive regional war. With US President Donald Trump indicating a clear preference for diplomacy over aggression, Washington appears to have dropped proposals to pursue regime change in Tehran and rescue Iranians caught in a brutal crackdown on last month’s protests. “If the Iranian people want to overthrow the regime, that’s up to them,” US Vice-President J.D. Vance told reporters in neighbouring Azerbaijan on Wednesday. Advertisement “What we are focused on now is the fact that Iran cannot have nuclear weapons.” Trump also appeared to rebuff Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ’s attempts to persuade him to accept “our views regarding the principles for the negotiations”. The US Army has commenced rotational deployments in the Philippines , according to a post published on January 29 on the Defence Visual Information Distribution Service, the US military’s image and video hosting website. The photographs showed exchanges on January 12 between the Army Rotational Force-Philippines and the US Marine Corps, which already maintains its own rotational force in the country. Advertisement The deployment marks the US Army’s first rotational unit in the Philippines – a development first reported by USNI News. Isaac Taylor, chief of public affairs for US Army Pacific, was quoted by media as saying that “the rotational force is not permanently assigned”. Advertisement However, Taylor said it represented a shift from the “iterative engagement cycle” of previous years to a “more sustained rotational presence, enabling deeper and more consistent collaboration with our Philippine Army counterparts”.

Beijing Blasts Washington For Fabricating Excuses To Restart Nuclear Testing Given the collapse of the New START nuclear treaty this month, the timing of Washington's latest and provocative charge leveled at Beijing is curious and interesting... The United States’ top nuclear arms has "accused China of carrying out an undisclosed nuclear detonation in 2020 , arguing that recent secretive underground tests by China and Russia have given Washington reason to conduct 'parallel steps' as a decades-long moratorium on nuclear testing among major powers is unraveling," The Washington Post has reported. Getty Images It was last Friday that US undersecretary of state for arms control and international security, Thomas DiNanno, declared in Geneva that "The US government is aware that China has conducted nuclear explosive tests, including preparing for tests with designated yields in the hundreds of tonnes." DiNanno then alleged that "yield-producing tests" were conducted on June 22, 2020 in a highly unusual accusation given the precision and specificity of it, even down to the day. China belatedly responded several days later, on Wednesday formally rejecting the allegation of secretive nuke testing. Taking note of the end of New START between Moscow and Washington, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian called it "an excuse" to justify Washington's own potential return to nuclear testing . "The United States has persistently distorted and smeared China’s nuclear policy ," he said on Wednesday. According to more via state-run Xinhua : Responding to a relevant query at a regular press briefing, spokesperson Lin Jian said persistent U.S. distortion and smearing of China's nuclear policy essentially constitutes political manipulation, which is aimed at pursuing nuclear hegemony and evading its own nuclear disarmament responsibilities. "China firmly opposes this," Lin said, stressing that the United States is the biggest source of disruption to both the international nuclear ...

(AI video summary) This video was created on 12 February 2026 for IG audiences by ausbiz. NYSE code: TSM TSMC’s impressive financial results Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) recently reported its financial results, achieving a record high share price driven by robust demand for its advanced artificial intelligence (AI) chips. The company recorded its highest ever monthly revenue for January, totalling US$12.7 billion, and a net income of US$33.7 billion for the fourth quarter (Q4) that exceeded expectations. TSMC also achieved record gross and net profit margins of 62.3% and 48.3%, respectively. The company holds a 71% market share in the global chip market and over 90% for the most advanced chips used in AI applications. TSMC plans to allocate up to US$56 billion in capital expenditure (capex) this year, marking a 40% increase from the previous year. Geopolitical and operational outlook Despite its impressive performance, TSMC faces potential geopolitical risks associated with its location in Taiwan. Analysts acknowledge Taiwan Semiconductor's critical role, supplying advanced chips essential for companies like Apple and Tesla. Concerns remain about potential conflicts over Taiwan, but TSMC's establishment of manufacturing facilities in Europe and the United States (US) indicates efforts to mitigate these risks. Investment outlook While the stock has performed strongly, TSMC TSMC trades at a price‑earnings‑to‑growth (PEG) ratio below 1.0, suggesting earnings growth continues to outpace valuation. The company is viewed as a more stable long‑term semiconductor exposure than individual chip designers, given its diversified customer base.

James Van Der Beek has died at 48, leaving a Dawson-shaped hole in the heart of many a millennial TV fanatic. A role model to all of a certain age, Dawson Leery taught us how to break and enter, how to be a bad friend and, most importantly, how to yearn. His years-long pursuit of the girl next door is still, for some of us, the reason we keep sending late-night texts to people who absolutely do not want to hear from us. So, as we grieve the floppy-haired man who became the less-hot lead as the series went on, let’s look back at some of the most iconic moments spent in Capeside. 10. Every time the theme song played From its rousing piano intro to its stirring snare drum climax, Paula Cole’s I Don’t Want to Wait became the anthem of 90s romantics everywhere. We felt those lyrics deep in our teenaged hearts – we’re 15, we’ll be dead before we know it, there’s no time to waste. I thought about walking down the aisle to this song, but my literal wedding somehow didn’t seem romantic enough to justify it. 9. Jen’s arrival In my memory, Jen Lindley’s taxi pulled up much later in the show’s run, but she actually arrives in the pilot episode. NYC transplant and love interest Jen is everything Dawson’s childhood pal and longstanding flame Joey isn’t: blonde, cosmopolitan, and blonde. Sent to live with her Grams after a life of sex and drugs (rarely mentioned), Jen throws back her shiny hair, swishes her summer dress, and drives an immediate wedge between Joey, Dawson and his best friend Pacey, setting the next six seasons in motion. 8. Jack coming out through a poem The 90s was a peak time for poems as plot devices (“I don’t hate you, not even a little bit, not even at all”) but the outing of shy Capeside high schooler Jack by his English teacher was one of the more memorable. Having found the words to begin to express his sexuality, Jack finds himself forced to read his feelings aloud in front of his whole class. Weeping through his (beautiful) verse, Jack finally flees the c...
