Alistair Berg Stock index futures were lower as Wall Street returned to trading Tuesday after the President’s Day holiday. Here are the 5 news items: No more DEI criteria for Goldman Sachs board: Goldman Sachs ( GS ) last year dropped its commitment to enforce board diversity for clients going public, and now, according to the Wall Street Journal , it plans to remove diversity requirements for its board as well. The Wall Street giant is preparing to remove race, gender identity, sexual orientation, and other diversity factors from the criteria its board will consider when identifying potential candidates, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter. Oil prices ease: Oil prices eased on Tuesday as markets awaited the outcome of a second round of talks in Geneva between the United States and OPEC member Iran. Brent crude ( CO1:COM ) dipped 0.4% to $68.42 a barrel after adding 1.3% in a thin holiday session on Monday, while U.S. crude oil futures ( CL1:COM ) ticked 0.2% down to $63.65. Danaher looks to acquire Masimo: Danaher ( DHR ) is nearing a roughly $10 billion deal to acquire U.S. medical technology firm Masimo ( MASI ), the Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the matter. A deal for the California-based Masimo could be announced as early as Tuesday, provided it does not hit any last-minute snags, the report said. That deal value represents a premium to its nearly $7B market capitalization at Friday’s close. Spain to probe tech giants: The government of Spain has ordered prosecutors to probe social media giants X, Meta Platforms ( META ) and TikTok for allegedly spreading AI-generated child sexual abuse material, according to the country's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. The benefit of saving for retirement in a traditional IRA or 401(k) is obvious -- you get a tax break on the money that goes in. But there are a few drawbacks you should know about, like having to pay taxes on your withdrawals and being subject to required minimum distributions , or RMDs, once you turn 73 (or later, depending on your year of birth). If you're turning 73 this year and are therefore on the hook for your first RMD, you could technically delay it to April 1 of 2027 without a penalty. But if you do that, you'll have to take two RMDs next year, which could drive your tax bill up substantially. So you may want to get that first RMD over with by Dec. 31 of this year. While there's a growth story here, the company is struggling with a bearish crypto markets and has a debt load to manage. I wouldn't buy right now, and those who do can at least see why they should beware! Business Model Galaxy bills itself as a company that provides infrastructure for digital assets and data centers. Q4 2025 Investor Presentation Digital Asset operations primarily refer to trading services for cryptocurrencies, but it also entails asset management. Full-Year 2025 Earnings Release The bulk of their revenue ultimately comes from Digital Assets, primarily in the form of market making cryptocurrencies. This is why most of their revenue is offset by transaction expenses. Full-Year 2025 Investor Presentation Smaller portions of revenue (lumped under Treasury and Corporate) come from management fees, lending, and staking some of their own crypto assets. Full-Year 2025 Investor Presentation Data Center operations are much newer, with much less revenue and gross profit garnered in 2025. In essence, it's a tried and true way to run a business, but it's important to realize that market making is the main operation, while the other aspects are rising and more forward-looking. Financial Profile It is often the case that companies providing some kind of digital financial service will have capital-light businesses, but Galaxy's balance sheet shows quite a bit going on. Assets (Full-Year 2025 Earnings Release) For starts, one will note that various classes of digital assets are reported among their assets. These do not account for Galaxy's long-term holdings. Rather, they reflect the capital deployed for their market making and other trading services. The $1.7B of investments (current and non-current) are mainly their proper crypto holdings, among other things. Investment Portfolio (Full-Year 2025 Investor Presentation) The chart above sho...

‘Get the files out’, says former secretary of state, adding that she and Bill Clinton have ‘nothing to hide’ Hello and welcome to the US politics live blog. I’m Tom Ambrose and I’ll be bringing you all the latest news lines over the next couple of hours. We begin with the news that the former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton has accused president Donald Trump of orchestrating a “cover-up” over files related to the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein , according to an interview with the BBC published on Monday. Donald Trump has piled pressure on Ukraine to reach a deal with Russia “fast” before US-brokered talks in Geneva on Tuesday. “Ukraine better come to the table, fast,” the US president told reporters onboard Air Force One while en route to Washington. Trump is pushing to end the conflict, which began when Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, but two previous rounds of US-mediated talks in Abu Dhabi did not yield any signs of a breakthrough. Donald Trump has vented his fury against a green energy deal between the British government and California’s governor, Gavin Newsom, a likely future Democratic presidential candidate . “The UK’s got enough trouble without getting involved with Gavin Newscum,” Trump said in an interview with Politico, using the derogatory nickname he reserves for Newsom. “Gavin is a loser. Everything he’s touched turns to garbage. His state has gone to hell, and his environmental work is a disaster.” Trump’s most unbridled critics at this weekend’s Munich Security Conference were not Europeans but Americans – and not just Democratic politicians. A few Republicans, out of earshot of the US president’s favoured Fox News, have had the courage to challenge Trump’s diet of tariffs and unpredictability. Trump is committed to the success of the Hungarian prime minister, Viktor Orbán, because his leadership is crucial for US national interests, the US secretary of state, Marco Rubio, has said. “President Trump is deeply committed to your success, b...
