Notably, the toy company said it expects 2026 EPS of between $1.18 and $1.30, which was well below the $1.76 consensus estimate heading into the report. J.P. Morgan downgraded Mattel ( MAT ) to Underweight as it warned that its results are highly dependent on the core toy business in comparison to Hasbro ( HAS ), which has its consumer products business, with a powerful 2026 content line-up ahead. Analyst Christopher Horvers said the Barbie business has had a letdown since the “epic” movie in 2023. "Near-term, the company is also clearing inventory and faces relatively tough content compares in 1H. Business is booming for AI chip designer Broadcom. If you put a group of people in a room and ask a question, you'll rarely get the same answer from everybody. And that holds true if you're asking about stocks as well -- particularly when you're seeking the views of the highly trained stock analysts who provide expert analysis about publicly traded companies. But there's one artificial intelligence (AI) stock that breaks the mold: Wall Street's experts are overwhelmingly positive on Broadcom (AVGO 1.01%). About Broadcom stock Broadcom is one of the leading makers of AI chips worldwide. True, it doesn't get as much publicity as Nvidia, which became the market leader in the data center parallel processor business with its powerful graphics processing units (GPUs). But Broadcom is charting a different course through that market, making it a compelling investment. Broadcom designs custom chips called application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs). It works directly with its hyperscaler clients to design ASICs to be precisely suited to the workloads they are expected to handle. While this makes them less flexible than Nvidia general-purpose GPUs, it makes Broadcom's chips more affordable to buy and more efficient to operate. Now, here's where it gets interesting. Broadcom has worked with Alphabet to help it create its Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), which it is using as an alternative to Nvidia's GPUs. The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is closing the airspace around El Paso International Airport in Texas for 10 days, grounding all flights to and from the airport. “No pilots may operate an aircraft in the areas” covered by the restrictions, the FAA said in a notice, citing “special security reasons” without elaborating. The closure does not include Mexican airspace. T-Mobile US Inc. added fewer mobile-phone subscribers than analysts expected in the fourth quarter, highlighting the challenge ahead for new Chief Executive Officer Srini Gopalan . The additions come on the heels of 1 million new mobile customers in the third quarter and are more than what rivals AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc. added in the period. Avantor — The provider of products and services to the life sciences industry more than 11% after issuing fiscal year 2026 earnings guidance in the range of 77 cents to 83 cents, far below the FactSet consensus estimate of 90 cents earnings per share. Mattel — The toy manufacturer tumbled 28% after posting fourth-quarter adjusted earnings of 39 cents per share, lower than FactSet's estimates of 54 cents. Adjusted net income was $74 million, or $1.12 per share for the fourth quarter of 2025, compared to $52 million, or $0.77 per share, in the fourth quarter of 2024. Fourth quarter net sales were $1.3 billion, 6.2% higher than the fourth quarter of 2024. Excluding ESG, legacy revenue increased 5.4% year-over-year, driven by higher sales in Aerials and Utilities business. For 2026, Terex expects EPS of $4.50 - $5.00, compared to $4.80 - $5.20 for legacy Terex. The company targets sales of $7.5 billion to $8.1 billion. The company was of high quality, had incredibly resilient contracts with a good long-term appeal. It was further complemented by a strong civil segment. In many ways, it reminded me of my investments in Rheinmetall and similar European defense businesses. What they all had going for them was that they were leading defense contractors when the defense segment went into a long-term slumber after the onset of the post-Cold War peace in Europe. While there were several events between 1990 and 2020 that sort of piqued defense interest in some sectors - I'm thinking of the Yugoslavian war, for one, but also other things, nothing really "awoke" this sector again as did Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Suddenly, all countries in Europe were talking defense again. And not just "having" an army that was modern and capable, either, but they were talking manufacturing and design. That's when I knew that defense was back. I can't say it was what I was counting on when investing, but it was definitely a possibility I saw that was "there". You know me as someone who covers European stocks. European stocks are in some ways very similar to US-based stocks; in some ways, they are entirely different from their US-based variety. European markets have much lower day-to-day liquidity than US markets. I wouldn't say it's a generalization to argue that European investors tend to take a much longer view of things than US-based ones do. For myself, I've never had any issue talking to a client about the need to see 5 years as a relatively short time, while many US-based friends and clients I've had have argued that 5 years is an entire "cycle". Look at this beautiful chart: Data by YCharts Why would anyone invest in a boring income stock like Federal Realty Investment Trust ( FRT ) in 2000? Sure, it was yielding 9%, but obviously, anyone who would consider buying it was just "yield chasing." FRT's price was down 38% from its peak in 1993. Why invest in that "loser" when there are so many cool Internet companies to invest in? The investor who decided to invest in FRT over the S&P 500 or many high-flyers in 2000 likely made that choice because they understood that past results do not guarantee future results. And they didn't. Here is how the chart evolved over the next 10 years: Data by YCharts Yes, you are seeing that right. The S&P 500 went from producing a return of nearly 450% over 10 years to 276% over 20 years. FRT went from having a dramatically lower total return to a dramatically higher total return. Sometimes, long-term outperforming stocks just have stunning stock performance charts. Two excellent examples are home improvement juggernaut The Home Depot (NYSE: HD) and resale goods franchisor Winmark (NASDAQ: WINA). With annualized total returns of 22% and 25%, respectively, over the last 15 years, these two compounders have stock charts that border on art. This unstoppable up-and-to-the-right movement of the stocks' share price over time correlates nicely with each company's slow-and-steady compounding ways. While these two businesses have only averaged mid-single-digit sales growth annually over the last decade, they have been fantastic investments thanks to their immense profitability, declining share counts, and increasing dividends. Best yet for investors, despite Home Depot and Winmark's incredible runs over the last 15 years, the stocks' share prices are currently 16% and 22% below their 52-week highs. Home Depot's numerous outperformance indicators Home Depot is the world's largest home improvement retailer, generating over $151 billion in sales from its 2,337 stores last year. Despite its size, the company estimates that it only has a 17% share of its $1 trillion target addressable market across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. As it gradually adds to its store counts of 138 and 182 in Mexico and Canada, respectively, Home Depot should have plenty of opportunity to continue pushing its market share higher. Similarly, the company plans to grow its share of the market further by focusing on specialty trade groups (think electricians, painters, plumbers, or roofers, for example) among its pro customers. Live Translation is launching in beta “this Spring,” according to a press release, with registration for eligible T-Mobile customers available starting today. “Some of the biggest barriers wireless customers face are the simplest ones — like being able to understand each other,” said T-Mobile CEO Srini Gopalan. “By bringing real-time AI directly into our network, we’re delivering more than connectivity — turning conversations into community, starting with Live Translation.” Enabling it at the network level means users don’t need specific apps or devices to use the service. The only requirement is that translation must be initiated by a T-Mobile network user. The feature will be available on the carrier’s 5G Advanced network, but T-Mobile president John Saw told The Verge that Live Translation works over both 4G LTE and 5G: “The key requirement is a Voice over LTE (VoLTE) connection, which allows the service to operate reliably across a wide range of devices and network conditions,” said Saw. “That flexibility is important because it ensures Live Translation works for customers wherever they are, not just when they’re on the latest network technology. The Central Bank of Nigeria has for the first time granted currency-exchange bureaux access to dollars at the official market, seeking to ease retail shortages and narrow the gap between the naira’s formal and street rates. All Bureau de Change’s licensed by the central bank will be allowed to access foreign exchange from the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market through any authorized dealer of their choice, at the prevailing exchange rate, the bank said in statement on its website. It’s intended “to ensure the availability of adequate foreign exchange liquidity in the retail segment of the foreign exchange market,” it said. The central bank will allow each exchange bureau to buy as much as $150,000 a week for sale to retail customers, with any unsold dollars required to be returned to the market within 24 hours, according to the statement. It did not state a time limit for how long the arrangement would remain in place or if it would be permanent. The step is part of President Bola Tinubu’ s broader effort to dismantle Nigeria’s multiple exchange-rate system and restore confidence in Africa’s largest oil producer.
