In doing so, it’s gearing up for next year’s debut of a budget-priced EV line to contend with China. The carmaker engineered its next-generation EV to be lighter, sleeker and more electrically efficient so that it can go farther on a charge and still start at US$30,000, some US$20,000 cheaper than the average new car in America. Bain Capital Credit LP and UBS Group AG are lending a combined A$540 million ($382 million) to an Australian health-equipment manufacturer Aidacare Pty. , according to people familiar with the matter, in the latest example of private credit being used to help finance stakeholder returns. The loan is for six years and the proceeds will fund a dividend payout to the company’s private equity owner Quadrant Private Equity Pty and refinance debt, according to the people who asked not to be identified as the talks are private. Representatives for Bain and UBS declined to comment, while Aidacare and Quadrant didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. Australia is one of the hottest private credit markets in the Asia Pacific, luring global alternative asset giants and spurring some of the biggest deals in the region, including a $10 billion loan announced recently by Australian AI startup Firmus Technologies Pty . The financing also reflects a broader global trend in which borrowers, particularly, private equity firms, are turning to private credit or bank loans to fund investor payouts where conventional exits from corporate holdings through public listings or sales prove less attractive. Aidacare’s loan pays a margin of 500 basis points over the local Bank Bill Swap Bid Rate, the people familiar said. UBS is syndicating a portion of its commitment to other lenders, the people added. The Australian Financial Review reported in January that Quadrant shelved a plan to sell Aidacare and was in talks for the loan. Private credit loans often offer investors significantly higher yield premiums than those found on average in the public arena to compensate for the added difficulties investors may face in exiting positions. Still, with credit spreads in global public markets near multi-decade lows, and junk bonds offering an average yield premium of under 300 basis points, private credit’s higher potential returns are attracting investors. SJYG/iStock via Getty Images I wrote about the growth potential for LightPath Technologies ( LPTH ) back in 2018. The stock increased 473% since then, while the S&P 500 ( SPY ) gained 135%. LightPath just reported earnings for Q2 FY26 , which provides insights into the company's future growth. LightPath is growing at a strong pace, but the stock is overvalued, while the technical outlook indicates a possible near-term pullback. Insights From LightPath's Q2 FY26 Earnings Report LightPath reported mixed results for Q2 FY26 . Revenue increased 122% yoy to $16.4 million, beating analysts' estimates by $1.44 million. GAAP EPS decreased 186% to a loss of ($0.20) over the loss of ($0.07) from Q2 FY25 . The GAAP EPS missed estimates by $0.16. The revenue gains were largely driven by a 7x yoy increase in assemblies and modules sales to $7.2 million. LightPath's revenue gains were also driven by a 21% gain in visible components to $3.4 million and a 61% gain in infrared component sales to $5 million. Revenue from engineering services remained flat at $0.7 million. The good news on the earnings side is that LPTH had a strong gain in the gross margin from 26% in Q2 FY25 to 37% in Q2 FY26. Continued revenue and margin gains will help LightPath to achieve profitability in the future. The increase in the gross margin was mostly attributed to the increase in assemblies and modules sales, which is a higher-margin business. LightPath's expenses are what is currently keeping the company from turning a profit. The company had total operating expenses of $7.1 million in Q2 , which was higher than the gross profit of $6 million. The company is getting closer to profitability - it just may take another one to two years to reach it. Continued revenue growth and gross margin increases can get the company to profitability. LightPath's CEO, Sam Rubin, explained how the company is transitioning to be vertically integrated. Here's what he stated: "We entered calendar year 2026 having completed ...

Kansas Woman Jailed For Fabricating Claims That Astronaut Hacked Her Bank Account From Space A Kansas woman has been sentenced to federal prison after admitting she fabricated claims that astronaut Anne McClain accessed her bank account from orbit, the U.S. Department of Justice said. Summer Heather Worden, 51, of Sedgwick County, Kansas, pleaded guilty on November 14, 2025, to making false, fictitious, and fraudulent statements to law enforcement, according to KBTX . Alfred H. Bennett sentenced her to three months in prison, followed by two years of supervised release, and ordered her to pay $210,000 in restitution. Worden had alleged in July 2019 that her estranged spouse guessed her password and illegally viewed her account while stationed aboard the International Space Station. Court evidence later established the accusation was unfounded. Records showed Worden opened the account in April 2018 and that both women used it until January 2019, when she changed the login information. Investigators determined she had shared access to her banking details, including credentials, as early as 2015. KBTX writes that even after an internal review cleared McClain, Worden continued promoting the allegations in the media, hired a consultant to amplify them, and publicly disclosed her former spouse’s personal information. “This case demonstrates the serious consequences of making false accusations to law enforcement,” said U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei. The case was investigated by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Office of Inspector General. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Richard D. Hanes and Brandon Fyffe prosecuted it. Worden remains free on bond and is expected to report voluntarily to a facility designated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Tyler Durden Tue, 02/17/2026 - 22:10
