SiyueSteuber/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Sandoz ( SDZNY ) ( SDZXF ) Wednesday announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved an expanded label for Enzeevu (aflibercept-abzv), to include multiple retinal indications. Enzeevu was originally approved by the FDA for the treatment of neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) in August 2024. Sandoz ( SDZNY ) ( SDZXF ) said this approval strengthens the company’s position in ophthalmology, following the acquisition of the U.S. biosimilar Cimerli (ranibizumab-eqrn) in 2024 and the European launch of Afqlir (aflibercept) in 2025. It also represents another step towards the overall strategic objective of capitalizing on a projected ~$320 billion biosimilar market opportunity over the next 10 years . Enzeevu is expected to launch in the U.S. in the fourth quarter of 2026, or earlier under certain circumstances. This expansion offers retina specialists a clinically-proven aflibercept biosimilar option to treat more patients across these retinal diseases, the company said. DNY59/E+ via Getty Images Macro Resilience, Tech Resistance as Rotation into Cyclicals Continues Volatility was once again the theme in US markets last week as a profound alpha rotation reshapes Wall Street. Investors continued to flee mega-cap tech, software stocks, and anything considered an AI loser, in favor of more cyclical sectors such as energy, materials and industrials. The list of impacted industries expanded across certain real estate, trucking and financial services names. This exodus from software stocks over the last couple of weeks was triggered by advancements in agentic AI, specifically the launch of Anthropic’s ( ANTHRO ) Claude Code and Claude Cowork. These tools have shifted the narrative from "AI helps software" to "AI replaces software," leading to fears that the traditional per-seat licensing model, the bedrock of companies like Salesforce ( CRM ) and Adobe ( ADBE ), is becoming obsolete. As companies realize that a handful of AI agents can do the work of dozens of human employees, the demand for traditional software seats will continue to decline, unless these names can prove they are beneficiaries of AI and show core revenue improvements. Against this backdrop of tech turbulence, the delayed January Jobs Report provided a confusing but ultimately stabilizing signal for the broader economy. The report showed 130,000 jobs were added in January, more than double the 55,000 expectation by economists surveyed by Dow Jones. The unemployment rate edged down to 4.3% from 4.4%. 1 Strength was once again seen in health care, social assistance and construction. Economists are calling this a "low-hire, low-fire" environment. While the labor market isn't exactly thawing, it seems to have found a floor that is preventing a broader economic collapse even as tech workers face a fresh wave of AI-driven layoffs. More positive macro news came on Friday when the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) reading was released. The headline annual inflation rate dropped t...

( WDH ) has started 2026 like one of the few Chinese InsurTech companies that successfully combined fast growth with sustainable profitability. In Q3 2025 , the company recorded a revenue jump of 38.4%, reaching 974.9 million RMB, and the net income grew even quicker, 60.1%, to 158.5 million RMB. This already marks the 15th quarter when the company is profitable, disproving skeptics' predictions about the instability of the sector. Waterdrop's profile, strengthened by an aggressive capital return policy, is attractive for investors. Management not only approved special dividends but also continued their share buyback program. Till 2025, they managed to buy around 58.1 million ADS units from the market. They continue to increase their effectiveness with AI solutions: insurance segment revenues grew almost 45%, and integration of AI let them optimise costs and maintain a high margin. This combination of growing core business, disciplined capital management, and technological advantage makes WDH an exceptional choice in China's technology sector. Business Model and Product Rotation Waterdrop Inc.'s business model as of the start of 2026 has transformed to an insurance distribution as well as a technology solutions platform. And lately the traditional insurance broker role is increasingly complemented by high-margin technological services. The main source of income remains Waterdrop Insurance Marketplace, which in 2025 Q3 generated almost 90% of the whole company's revenue, though we can see that they are making a strategic turn to providing technical services to insurance companies. This new segment, covering AI's reasonable customer attraction and risk valuation solutions, grew almost 20 times and became essential for profitability. In the product rotation, the company balanced the portfolio between short-term health insurance products, made to generate consumer flow, and long-term life and cri...

A new exhibition brings together new dye-transfer prints of the classically American photographer’s work As a small child, Winston Eggleston was only vaguely aware that his father, William Eggleston, was a famous photographer. For all he knew other children also had parents who were friends with Dennis Hopper, or who spent hours tinkering on a piano between occasional, fevered photography sprees, or who had taken the world’s most iconic picture of a red ceiling. “It’s all normal to you, because you don’t know anything different,” Winston recently recalled. “Looking back, I was lucky.” Continue reading...

Nikada Stock futures edged up Wednesday morning ahead of the FOMC minutes release and the latest earnings batch. Here are some of Wednesday's biggest stock movers: Biggest stock gainers SSR Mining ( SSRM ) +6% - Shares advanced after posting strong Q4 results, with revenue jumping 61.4% Y/Y to $521.7M. The miner also issued solid 2026 guidance, forecasting production of 450K–535K gold-equivalent ounces, roughly a 10% annual increase, and boosted investor sentiment further by authorizing a share buyback program of up to $300M. Nvidia ( NVDA ) +2% and Meta ( META ) +1.5% - Shares rose after the companies unveiled a broad multi-year AI infrastructure partnership. The deal features Meta's first large-scale rollout of Nvidia's Grace CPUs, future Vera CPU adoption, expanded Spectrum-X networking, GB300 systems for data centers, and Nvidia confidential computing enhancing AI privacy features in WhatsApp. New York Times ( NYT ) +2% - Shares edged up after Berkshire Hathaway ( BRK.A ) ( BRK.B ) disclosed a new position in the media company. The investment firm, led by Warren Buffett, reported owning roughly 5.07M NYT shares valued at about $351.7M at the end of Q4 2025, signaling fresh institutional confidence in the publisher. Biggest stock losers Similarweb ( SMWB ) -22% - Shares plunged after the company posted Q4 revenue of $72.8M, missing the consensus mark despite in-line EPS, and issued weak guidance. Similarweb expects Q1 revenue of $72M–$74M, below the consensus of $77.88M, and FY2026 revenue of $305M–$315M vs. the consensus of $323.75M, with modest operating profit forecasts, signaling slower growth and pressuring investor sentiment. Palo Alto Networks ( PANW ) -8% - Shares dipped after mixed FQ2 results, as strong 15% Y/Y growth and sharply higher revenue guidance were overshadowed by a weaker earnings outlook. The company sees FQ3 revenue around $2.94B, well above expectations of $2.6B, but guided adjusted EPS to $0.78–$0.80, below estimates of $0.92. For FY2026,...

BlackJack3D/E+ via Getty Images Overview When I previously covered Cohen & Steers REIT & Preferred & Income Fund ( RNP ), I issued a buy rating due to the solid earnings performance and consistent distribution payouts for long-term investors. Now that we've crossed into the new year, we've seen market indices retreat from their all-time highs due to uncertainty and shifting sentiment within the technology sector. However, RNP has provided stability against this uncertainty, and I believe the fund can directly participate in the growth of AI while providing less volatility over time. While it may not be the most efficient holding to get exposure to AI, I believe it is a great fit for investors with a lower risk tolerance. Looking at the performance over the last twelve months, we can see that RNP's share price has declined by 1.6%. However, RNP has started off 2026 strong and saw its share price increase while the rest of the market indices declined. When including all distributions paid to shareholders, the total return jumps up to 6.2% over the same time frame. RNP now offers investors a starting dividend yield of 7.6% while issuing payouts on a monthly basis. I also anticipate that earnings will improve through 2026 if interest rates continue to trend downward. Data by YCharts Since my last coverage, RNP's price-to-NAV discount has also improved. This disconnect between the fund's price and its underlying NAV may be an opportunity for long-term investors to accumulate. If you are optimistic about the outlook of AI, I believe that RNP can capitalize by providing exposure to the 'picks and shovels,' which provide the essential infrastructure for data centers. While this isn't a main objective for the fund, RNP's holdings directly expose investors to some of the leaders within the space. So let's start by taking a look at the strategy that RNP implements to generate its earnings. Strategy Benefits From AI According to the latest fact sheet , RNP has total managed ass...

Mandelson, Trump, Send, political leadership: all need explanation with thought and clarity. We must end this obsession with ‘hot takes’ Roger Mosey is a former head of BBC TV News Almost everybody, including Keir Starmer, can see that the Peter Mandelson affair provoked a genuine political crisis. The media were right to make it headline news. But it also shows the febrile atmosphere in which politicians and the media conspire to turn every incident into an issue of confidence in leadership, and we are becoming a country where it is impossible to focus on the long term. Hyped-up hot takes are far more loved in Westminster than bringing the nation the sustained change that it needs. There is nothing new in the obsession with political process. I was guilty of it myself when I was editor of the Today programme during John Major’s attempt to ratify the Maastricht treaty in the 1990s . We gleefully put on air rebels and loyalists as the government battled for survival, and our listeners had a far better briefing on the meltdown within the Conservative party than they did on what was in the treaty. This was part of a pattern in which, for decades, EU affairs were seen through a British party prism rather than explaining what was going on in Europe. Continue reading...

No need to get in a lather – there are plenty of stylish-looking, premium-feeling options at a reasonable price Please can we all admit that on occasion, when we’ve been gifted and subsequently drained a posh-looking hand wash, we unscrew the luxury cap and pour in something from Asda? And that those of us privileged enough to have a downstairs loo that visitors see, routinely leave the posh soap there while the resident family rely on a bumper dispenser of Carex? Surely no one is above such behaviour. An illicit bargain refill last autumn inspired a hunt for stylish-looking and luxury-feeling hand soaps that, while not weekly-shop cheap, feel at least like a justifiable luxury. I’ve rarely enjoyed my research more. Continue reading...
