Dutch JV stake buyout The company has signed a deal to buy out Vodafone Group's ( VOD ) 50% stake in their Dutch telecom joint venture, VodafoneZiggo. Under deal terms, Vodafone will receive €1B cash and a 10% stake in a new Benelux company, "Ziggo Group," which will hold Liberty’s interests in VodafoneZiggo and Telenet in Belgium. Both VodafoneZiggo and Telenet will continue to operate under their current brands and credit silos. The company plans to list Ziggo Group in 2027 on Euronext in Amsterdam and spin off 90% of shares to its shareholders. Substantial Group deal Liberty also entered a deal to buy UK-based alternative fiber provider Substantial Group with its existing joint venture partners InfraVia and Telefónica ( TEF ). The trio, through their company nexfibre, are committing £1B in new net funding. The acquisition is expected to unlock "£3.5B of investment in the UK market." The deal is expected to boost the fiber footprint for the companies to up to 20M premises in the UK. Luis D. Barrera Gamboa/E+ via Getty Images Market Overview The S&P Composite 1500 Health Care Index rose +11.24% during the quarter, outperforming the broader US market, as measured by the S&P 500 Index (+2.66%). Within the benchmark, large-cap biopharma and small-cap biopharma stocks outperformed most during the period. Performance Summary The Hartford Healthcare Fund (I Share)( HGHIX ) outperformed the S&P Composite 1500 Health Care Index during the quarter. Security selection contributed across all sub-sectors, with selection in mid-cap biopharma and large-cap biopharma contributing most. Sub-sector allocation, a result of our bottom-up stock-selection process, marginally detracted from relative performance. Allocation effect was driven by our underweight to large-cap biopharma. At the issuer level, our top-two relative contributors were an out-of-benchmark allocation to Structure Therapeutics ( GPCR ) and an underweight to Abbott Laboratories ( ABT ), while our top-two relative detractors were an overweight to Acadia Healthcare ( ACHC ) and not owning benchmark constituent Regeneron Pharmaceuticals ( REGN ). Positioning & Outlook Biopharma remains a strong source of innovation across multiple areas, including cardiometabolic disease, oncology, and genetic medicines. The potential for continued relative outperformance is supported by improving earnings revisions, a catalyst-rich clinical calendar, and sustained M&A activity driven by large pharmaceutical companies seeking external innovation as they confront upcoming patent expirations. We maintain a selective yet constructive outlook for medical-technology companies. Procedure volumes remain resilient, while stock performance is increasingly driven by company-specific product cycles and innovation, particularly in cardiology, robotics, and diagnostics. In addition, we expect a reacceleration in the bioproduction cycle to benefit life-sciences tools companies. Within healthcare services, we expect strong medical-...

JHVEPhoto/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Recap I last covered Leidos Holdings (LDOS) in November of 2025, rating the stock as a Hold largely based on a weak future potential return. Since November 24th LDOS has declined 8.65%, underperforming the broad U.S. equity market measured by the SPDR S&P 500 Trust ETF ( SPY ). Granted, this decline is primarily attributed to the last trading session following the company's latest earnings announcement . Given the negative market reaction and a more attractive entry point relative to the past quarter lets revisit our investment thesis for LDOS. Data by YCharts Q4 Earnings and 2025 Full-Year Guidance On Tuesday, February 17th Leidos Holdings announced their Q4 2025 earnings before the market opened. The company reported strong Non-GAAP EPS of $2.76 per share, beating analyst estimates by $0.15. Revenue for the quarter clocked in at $4.21B which missed estimates by roughly $107 million. Full fiscal 2025 Non-GAAP EPS was $11.99, a roughly 17% increase year-over-year. Revenue for the year came in at $17.17B, about 3.1% growth relative to fiscal 2024. Overall Q4 did show some softness but fiscal 2025 performance was strong. Let's break the results down by each segment. Looking at the National Security & Digital segment first, revenue for Q4 showed a decline of roughly 3% year-over-year but fiscal 2025 revenue of $7.61B was just about 3% above the prior year. On a bright note, the company noted a 1.6% improvement in its operating margin during the quarter and a net 0.2% improvement on the year. Moving on to the Health & Civil segment, revenue for the quarter was $1.2B which is 9.3% below Q4 2024. Full fiscal 2025 revenue was $5.07B which is roughly 1% higher relative to the prior year. The operating margin improved by 0.8% relative to Q4 2024, and by 1.7% on full fiscal year results. The decline in revenue is more cyclical than structural as its primarily attributed to the government shutdown. The Commercial & International divi...

Investors have enjoyed stellar returns across much of the technology sector since the artificial intelligence (AI) boom took off in late 2022. However, recent weeks have been an important reminder about how volatile tech stocks can be. Fears over how AI might impact software and other types of tech products have pummeled some market darlings. But stocks will tumble from time to time, for one reason or another. While you cannot dismiss how AI may impact any business in this rapidly evolving world, the five stocks below wouldn't be as cheap as they are now without some adversity. The market may have forgotten just how entrenched these world-class businesses are. I wouldn't be surprised to see all five eventually rebound and reach new highs. They could be the best stocks to invest your next $5,000 in. Continue reading

We are still processing our thoughts in a group chat. We agreed that the visuals were often delightfully shocking. We talked about the contrasts between the lavish costumes and the moor landscape, which we thought Fennell got right. We talked about the Charlie XCX music and how well it evoked the landscape and the spirit of the book. Continue reading...

Svetlana Verbitskaya/iStock via Getty Images Thesis This would be my third time writing about Otter Tail Corporation ( OTTR ), an Upper Midwest company with two main types of businesses. One part of the company is an electric utility. This segment provides electricity to homes and businesses in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The other parts of the company are industrial businesses. These branches turn out metal products and PVC pipes that are used in construction projects and in manufacturing. Seeking Alpha The last time I discussed this, I rated it a Hold because I expected the Plastics windfall to fade and saw limited upside from cyclical headwinds. Since then, the stock has struggled to keep pace with the broader market ( SP500 ). No drama, but there hasn’t been any strong growth, either. Under the current circumstances, after reviewing the company’s latest earnings , I’m now taking a bullish stance as the strength in the regulated utility business outweighs near-term pressure in the cyclical segments. Otter Tail Corporation: Q4 2025 Positive Developments The big driver right now is Otter Tail Power. Earnings were up 7% year over year, which added about $0.16 per share. That bump is mostly coming from rate base growth. They’ve been putting a lot of money to work, and those investments are tracking toward a roughly 10% CAGR over the next five years. In other words, they’re spending about $1.9 billion in capex, and that’s what’s driving the growth. They’ve also got interim rates kicking in, which also helps a lot. Minnesota's been contributing about $28.6 million since the beginning of this year, and South Dakota added another $5.7 million starting in December. So they’re recovering those investments pretty much right away. On top of that, residential and commercial volumes were up. Weather was closer to normal versus the unusually mild 2024, so revenue got a lift. And importantly, they didn’t have to spend much more on O&M to support that growth. Cost ...

Every day, people log into an online forum for current and former Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) officers to share their thoughts on the news of the day and complain about their colleagues in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). “ERO is too busy dressing up as Black Ops Commandos with Tactical body armor, drop down thigh rigs, balaclavas, multiple M4 magazines, and Punisher patches, to do an Admin arrest of a non criminal, non-violent EWI that weighs 90 pounds and is 5 foot 2, inside a secure Federal building where everyone has been screened for weapons,” wrote one user in July 2025. (ERO stands for Enforcement and Removal Operations; along with HSI, it’s one of the two major divisions of ICE, and is responsible for detaining and deporting immigrants.) The forum describes itself as a space for current and prospective HSI agents, “designed for the seasoned HSI Special Agent as well as applicants for entry level Special Agent positions.” HSI is the division within ICE whose agents are normally responsible for investigating crimes like drug smuggling, terrorism, and human trafficking.
