hapabapa/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Snap Inc. ( SNAP ) beat consensus estimates for revenues and earnings amid a strong backdrop in the social media advertising industry in the fourth quarter, and the social media platform reported a surprise profit as well. Despite these accomplishments, shares of Snap have seen selling pressure lately, mainly because the company shed daily active users in the important North American market. I believe that the sell-off with regard to Snap has gone a little bit too far here, as the company saw strong profitability growth, as measured by its adjusted EBITDA, in the last year, and the company is seeing ad pricing growth in key markets, especially in Europe. I would recommend taking a speculative buy position here, and I see a favorable rebound scenario if the company achieves its 1 billion monthly active user goal this year. Data by YCharts Previous Rating I rated Snap as a speculative strong buy in August 2025 -- The Case For An Upside Revaluation -- mainly because the social media platform was seeing respectable growth in its user counts as well as its average revenue per user. The platform made significant progress in growing its EBITDA, but Snap also saw headwinds in its core business, as it lost 4M daily active users in the important North American market, mainly due to competition from TikTok and Instagram Reels. Snap Beat Estimates The platform beat expectations on both the top and the bottom lines in early February, mainly due to strong ad price performance. Snap published $0.19 per share in non-GAAP earnings for the fourth quarter, while the market expected $0.16 per share. In terms of revenue, Snap also sailed past the consensus and reported a $16.4M top-line beat. Seeking Alpha On Track To 1 Billion Monthly Active Users Snap published total revenues for the fourth quarter of $1.7B, which showed a year-over-year growth rate of 10%. The largest growth, interestingly, didn’t happen in North America but in Europe, which...

The stock price decline was driven by tech sector weakness as investors process growing capital expenditures with an apparent lack of satisfactory top-line growth. However, I believe that this actually creates an even stronger opportunity, as current cash flow performance is masked by high CapEx, and we are still in the early scaling phase of AI infrastructure. In this report, I discuss Amazon’s Q4 2025 earnings , and I update my price target. Amazon Profit Growth Outpaces Revenue Growth in Q1 2025 Amazon (Earnings Presentation) Fourth quarter sales grew 14% and 12% on a constant currency basis to $213.4 billion, beating estimates by $2.2 billion . North American sales grew 10% to $127.1 billion, while international sales grew 11% on a constant currency basis to $50.7 billion. Amazon Web Services (AWS) saw sales grow 24% to $35.6 billion. Amazon Ads, which is not a stand-alone segment within Amazon, saw sales rise 22% to $21.3 billion. Operating income grew 18% to $25 billion, bringing the operating margins to 11.7% from 11.3% a year ago. North American margins were 9% compared to 8% a year ago. International margins dropped from 3% to 2.1%. Margins at AWS dropped from 36.9% to 35%. In North America, margins were driven by fulfillment network optimization, robotics and automation, and advertising leverage. There were several headwinds. The first one was a $610 million impairment driven by physical store closures, which I believe is related to Amazon closing all of its physical Go and Fresh stores . There also was a $730 million in severance costs related to workforce reductions hitting all three operating segments of Amazon. The Leo satellite costs also have started to ramp up. Internationally, positives are better cost structures in fulfillment and scaling of operations in India and Europe. However, there was a $1.1 billion tax settlement in Italy and a ra...

Big Tech Turns To Uranium As Data Center Power Demand Soars Big Tech is considering supporting new uranium mining projects as companies need additional reliable power capacity for their huge data center expansion, according to the top executive of Canadian uranium miner NexGen Energy. “It's coming. You've seen it with automakers. These tech companies, they're under an obligation to ensure the hundreds of billions that they are investing in the data centres are going to be powered ,” NexGen Energy’s CEO Leigh Curyer said at a Melbourne Mining Club luncheon on Wednesday, as carried by Reuters . As OilPrice reports , NexGen Energy, which is developing Canada’s largest uranium project, Rook I in Saskatchewan, has held early talks with technology companies over potential financing from data center developers, Curyer said. The uranium developer has also discussed long-term uranium supply with data center firms. Yet, potential funding or supply deals will not involve any changes to the control of NexGen Energy, the chief executive told Reuters. Global electricity demand increased by 3% annually in 2025, following growth of 4.4% in 2024, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said in its recent Electricity 2026 report . Between 2026 and 2030, the annual average growth rate would be 3.6%, driven by higher consumption from industry, electric vehicles (EVs), air conditioning, and data centers, according to the agency. Artificial intelligence, data centers, and advanced manufacturing support the return to growth in power demand in advanced economies, the IEA said. U.S. electricity demand rose by 2.1% in 2025 and is expected to grow by nearly 2% annually through 2030. The rapid expansion of data centers will drive half of the increase, the agency noted. The U.S. is backing nuclear power generation to help meet rising electricity demand. Nuclear energy will be one of the winners of the U.S. AI and data center boom, as Microsoft and other hyperscalers have been looking to purchase ...

DutcherAerials/iStock Unreleased via Getty Images REIT Earnings Halftime Report In this report, we highlight the Halftime "Winners" and "Losers" and award each property sector a Halftime Grade, noting highlights and major themes. Hoya Capital We're nearing the halfway point of real estate earnings season, with roughly 65 of the 150 equity REITs and 20 of the 38 mortgage REITs representing 50% of the total market capitalization now having reported results. REIT results have been solid, with no major bombshells and several upside surprises. Of the 57 equity REITs that provide guidance for Funds from Operations ("FFO"), 30 ( 53% ) reported full-year 2025 FFO that beat their most recent full-year outlook, 18 ( 32% ) met their outlook, while 9 ( 16% ) missed their guidance - roughly in line with the historical average "beat rate" for the fourth quarter of roughly 50%. Property-level metrics have posted more favorable trends, with roughly 60% of REITs beating their full-year Net Operating Income ("NOI") outlook - upside driven primarily by lower expenses - consistent with the ongoing "disinflation" theme observed across most sectors. Hoya Capital Aided by favorable "Goldilocks" macro data trends - cooling inflation alongside "good enough" labor market data - REITs have delivered notable earnings season outperformance thus far over the S&P 500. Since the start of earnings season in mid-January, the Equity REIT Index ( VNQ ) is higher by 3.1%, outperforming the -0.9% decline from the S&P 500 during this time. Despite this recent outperformance, REITs still maintain a historically wide 60-percentage-point underperformance gap versus the S&P since early 2022. Solid trends across most of the real estate sector come alongside a slightly weaker-than-expected set of earnings results across the broader U.S. equity market, particularly among the mega-cap tech giants that had shouldered the market gains in recent years. FactSet reports that 74% of S&P 500 constituents have topped co...

Consumers beware: you have to keep a forensic eye on the deals for all the services you pay for. Otherwise, like me, you’ll get shafted Idiot. More fool you. Serves you right. What did you expect? These were some of the things people said to me when I told them about something I had done, or rather not done, or rather – as I saw it – had done to me. I thought I was the victim. Others just thought me a bit of a pillock. For years I had breakdown cover with the same well-known name. Let’s call it SMBOBU Recovery. Skilled Mechanics But Otherwise a Bit Unscrupulous. I can’t tell you how long I’d been with SMBOBU Recovery because I can’t bear to look. I never had any problem with the service, not least because I never broke down. To be fair, the one time I remember calling on them, when my motorbike’s battery went flat, the bloke turned up promptly and played a blinder. He couldn’t get at the battery terminals to clip on his charger cables, so he executed a devilishly clever manoeuvre he called chopsticks. This involved poking a couple of long screwdrivers on to the terminals and clipping his clips on to them. Nice work, credit where it’s due, etc. Adrian Chiles is a Guardian columnist Continue reading...
