Wednesday is shaping up to be a banner day for Hycroft Mining (NASDAQ: HYMC) shareholders. As of 3:05 p.m. ET, the gold and silver mining stock is up an incredible 25.9%, reversing a pullback that began in late January following a huge run-up late last year and early this year, when precious metal prices began making a sizable, prolonged gain . Today's big move, however, isn't about gold and silver prices. It's about the amount of silver and gold in the ground at the company's mine in northwest Nevada. Simply put, Hycroft Mining is sitting on more gold and silver than believed shortly after it began earnest developmental work at its mine back in 2022. An independent mineral resource estimate prepared by Ausenco Engineering USA South, Independent Mining Consultants, and WestLand Engineering & Environmental Services completed late last month indicates 55% more "measured and indicated" gold and silver awaits mining compared to previous estimates first formed in 2023, in fact, while inferred gold resources grew 50% at the same time inferred resources of silver expanded by 38%. Earnings Call Insights: HF Sinclair Corporation (DINO) Q4 2025 Management View Franklin Myers, acting as temporary CEO, announced, "Mr. Tim Go, the company's Chief Executive Officer and President...has requested a voluntary leave of absence," and confirmed that Myers has been elected CEO on a temporary basis. Myers also stated, "the Audit Committee of the Board is assessing certain matters relating to the company's disclosure processes...our review relates to our disclosure processes and not to the numbers we released this morning. We are comfortable with the financial statements and disclosures we released and have no expectation that they will change." Steven Ledbetter, EVP of Commercial, highlighted, "we reported solid full year 2025 adjusted EBITDA of $2.3 billion and fourth quarter adjusted EBITDA of $564 million." He pointed to "seasonal weakness in our refining business" and noted, "fuel margins were strongest in the first half of the quarter...but the margins weakened significantly at the end of the quarter." Ledbetter also announced, "HF Sinclair is pleased to announce the formation of Green Trail Fuels LLC, a new joint venture with UPOP Holdings for which we will hold a 50% nonoperating economic interest...more than 30 retail sites across Colorado and New Mexico." LIS Technologies Initiates Engagement With NRC LIS Technologies (LIST) initiated its first engagement with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in preparation for starting up the company's laser uranium enrichment technology facilities. LIST submitted a Standard Practice Procedures Plan for the company's smaller-scale demonstration facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This is part of a process for obtaining approval from the NRC to start handling classified information related to nuclear technology . It's a relatively minor step, but important in the context of finally engaging the regulator. The company is currently pursuing novel uranium enrichment technology that could dramatically reduce operating costs through improved efficiencies. Laser enrichment technology is considered the third generation of uranium enrichment methods. The first was gaseous diffusion , which was only used back in the day of the Manhattan Project. Due to its extreme power consumption, newer technology was developed for the second generation – gas centrifuge . Centrifuges are still in use across the world today. For third generation technology, laser enrichment is currently under development by multiple companies including LIST, ASPI, Hexium, and GLE. We recently detailed some of the major announcements from LIST regarding their newly announced $1.4 billion facility in Tennessee, as well as some of their recent funding rounds and ongoing coordination with Nano Nuclear . The yen headed for its worst day this month amid a broader selloff in major currencies as US economic data supported higher Treasury yields and a shallower path of Federal Reserve interest-rate cuts in the months ahead. The yen led losses among the Group-of-10 currencies alongside the New Zealand’s dollar and Sweden’s krona. The Japanese currency fell 1% versus the greenback to a session low of 154.87 in afternoon trading in New York. The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index extended gains, up 0.5%, while the 10-year Treasury yield rose two basis points to 4.08%. The release of minutes from the Federal Reserve’s latest meeting further weighed on the yen. The central bank confirmed that its trading desk in New York had requested quotes on the dollar-yen on behalf of the US Treasury. Erman Gunes/iStock via Getty Images When evaluating closed-end funds ("CEFs") for potential income investments, it is often wise to pay attention to the current price relative to the NAV (net asset value) of the fund, which is described as the Discount if market price is below NAV or Premium if the Price is higher than the current NAV. Because the market price is highly sensitive to investor sentiment regarding the fund, the asset class represented by fund holdings, the current macro environment, and even the current fear vs greed measure relative to CEFs in general, the discount or premium can often fluctuate, sometimes wildly. Therefore, knowing when to buy a CEF can be advantageous since we can only buy at market price, and the best time to buy is typically when the fund trades at a wider-than-average discount (or a lower-than-average premium). In my recent review of Nuveen Real Asset Income and Growth Fund ( JRI ), I went into even more detail regarding how to evaluate a CEF and when is the best time to buy one if you are considering it. For income-oriented investors like me, CEFs can provide high-yield current income while often delivering strong total returns over time, although performance can fluctuate from year to year based on the macro environment at the time. That is the case with Guggenheim Strategic Opportunities Fund ( GOF ), which I last rated Hold in May 2024 as the premium had run up again to near 30% above NAV. Now, the relative premium has dropped considerably over the past couple of months, and GOF is in Buy territory again. We have seen this pattern repeat over the past few years, with GOF typically trading at a very high premium most of the time. Only twice in the past three years has the premium dropped to around 5%, first in October 2023 and then again in December 2025. The pricing chart on CEFConnect shows this pattern quite clearly. The GEO Group (GEO) aydinmutlu/iStock via Getty Images It's an understatement to say that a lot sure has happened with The GEO Group ( GEO ), the private prison/immigration enforcement services industry, and with U.S. immigration policy in general since I last wrote about this stock back in August . At the time, I took a cautious view of GEO stock, noting that while near-term prospects were strong, shares were at risk of pulling back due to concerns about political changes, even if those changes were years away. Flash forward to now. The company has continued to benefit from ICE's expansion, or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The company has also secured new private prison contract wins in the State of Florida . But despite these positive developments, not to mention progress in areas like share repurchases, the stock has fallen by over 34% during this time frame. To some extent, company-related factors have played a role, but recent controversy surrounding ICE is arguably the greater factor. I have noted in prior analysis of GEO that politics will continue to affect this company and its valuation. Before, I've talked about the prospect of political changes placing pressure on shares once again. Yet while they may serve as a hindrance in terms of the stock's valuation potential, that's not to say you need to stay away completely. In fact, following the stock's extended drop, I have re-entered a position on the view that shares could continue to rebound, although long-term upside potential remains questionable. First, even as GEO Group shares had moved higher, the main factors driving the stock were now more-than-reflected in GEO's valuation. Their habits are always interesting to watch because they have distinct habits and aspects to their trading that individual investors do not. The last time I wrote about this group, they were “ moving unseen ” back in November, when futures data stopped being published (though it was still collected) during the government shutdown. Reporting did not get back to order until last month, though there was little to discuss until recently. With new market narratives come interesting moves from institutional capital. The Software Meltdown I wrote about the narrative that got us here in a recent article, “ I'm Buying the Software Meltdown, ” but here's the relevant excerpt of what's going on with the tech sector and with the software subsector in particular. The narrative behind the meltdown is fairly simple: the market believed that software stocks could really grow forever. An extremely low marginal cost to sales (the cost of selling one more copy of Windows is negligible compared to the cost of making Windows), the ability to access the global market with ease due to the Internet (the barrier is the speed of light), and profit margins that could infinitely expand—to their credit, tech stocks at large have been great centers of profit-making over the last 45 years... The rise of the subscription economy and software-as-a-service enterprises ("SaaS") gave way to a dominant sector that is now being unraveled by upstart AI companies...
