Dragon Claws U.S. equities advanced on February 18, led by renewed strength in technology shares, even as fresh signals from the Federal Reserve underscored lingering policy uncertainty, Seeking Alpha analyst Daniel Jones noted. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite ( COMP:IND ) led the major averages with a 0.7% gain on the day. The benchmark S&P 500 ( SP500 ) also advanced, rising 0.5%, while the blue-chip Dow ( DJI ) posted a more modest increase of 0.2%. “This move higher was driven by a rally in technology companies, which is normally a sign that investors are more willing to accept growth related and valuation related risks,” Jones said. The advance came despite reports that when the Federal Reserve cut interest rates in January, officials concluded that further easing should be paused for now. “Some of the members of the Federal Reserve even suggested that interest rate hikes could be appropriate,” he said, calling it “a high level of uncertainty that would normally stoke fears in investors.” Still, most Fed officials expect inflation to moderate through the year. Jones added, “If that turns out to be true, it would mean that interest rates could fall faster as new data comes in.” He also cautioned that a potential recession could accelerate that timeline, even as recent jobs data showed resilience with unemployment dipping to 4.3%. AlphaQuest , the roughly 25-year-old quantitative hedge fund that recently added “Alpha” to its name, is calling it quits after three consecutive years of losses. Nigol Koulajian ’s $2 billion fund is shuttering and returning all cash to investors after undergoing its worst-ever losing streak. The fund fell 15.2% last year, a person familiar with the matter said, leaving the hedge fund down about 30% since it began its decline in October 2022. The losses have continued into the new year, with the fund falling more than 4% in February alone and leaving clients with a 3.1% loss for the year to date. “I have come to the difficult realization that our quantitative models no longer properly fit the current market regime — a regime that may well continue indefinitely,” Koulajian wrote to investors on Wednesday in a letter seen by Bloomberg. The S&P 500 Index has continued to rally in recent years, even amid concerns over company valuations and persistent inflation. Koulajian wrote that in his view, market headwinds were “too severe” to be able to invest the way his clients expected and that “the market is telling me that it is no longer prudent for me to manage client assets.” A representative for AlphaQuest declined to comment. Ivelin Denev/iStock via Getty Images February 17th was a really great day for shareholders of Itron, Inc. ( ITRI ). After management announced financial results for the final quarter of the company's 2025 fiscal year, shares jumped, closing up 7.9%. Unfortunately, revenue did decline year over year. But net profits and adjusted net profits both rose nicely, while cash flows followed suit. This is great to see in and of itself, even though the drop in sales is discouraging. In the past, I have taken a more neutral stance on the company. In fact, in my last article about it, published a little over three years ago now, I called it a Hold candidate because of uncertainty. Revenue and cash flow at that time were disappointing. And the stock was not cheap enough to justify a bullish outlook. Since that time, the stock has risen 72.6%. This almost perfectly matches the 74% increase that the S&P 500 ( SP500 ) enjoyed. Considering that I view a Hold candidate as one that should perform along the lines of the broader market for the foreseeable future, I would say that this is a win. Looking at the picture today, I do still see some uncertainty. That's especially true when it comes to profitability for the year. Although the business ended 2025 on a strong note, the expectation that management has is for profits to fall this year. The good news is that the stock is priced at lower levels than other similar firms. But even with that factored in, I am not ready to take a bullish stance on the business just yet. A Great Quarter At first glance, the final quarter of the 2025 fiscal year might not have seemed all that great for shareholders of Itron. Take revenue as an example. During the quarter, revenue for the company came in at $571.7 million. That's a decline of 6.7% compared to the $612.9 million the business reported a year earlier. Even though this drop was discouraging to see, one positive thing was that revenue actually came in above what analysts were hoping for . They ...

Earnings Call Insights: Rush Enterprises (RUSHA) Q4 2025 Management View CEO W. Rush opened the call by highlighting that Rush Enterprises generated revenues of $7.4 billion and net income of $263.8 million, or $3.27 per diluted share for 2025. For Q4, revenues were $1.8 billion with net income of $64.3 million, or $0.81 per diluted share. The Board approved a cash dividend of $0.19 per share. W. Rush noted, “2025 was another challenging year for the commercial vehicle industry. Freight rates remained under pressure, excess capacity continued to be a factor and customers face uncertainty around trade policy and emissions regulations. All these factors negatively impacted demand, particularly for new trucks in the over-the-road segment and also created a more difficult aftermarket environment.” The CEO emphasized improvement in new Class 8 truck demand toward the end of Q4, with quoting activity and order intake increasing and said, “We believe a key driver of this improvement has been increased clarity, particularly around tariffs and the EPA's anticipated confirmation of the 2027 NOx standard.” W. Rush reported the acquisition of IC bus dealerships in Ontario, Canada, and the addition of a full-service Peterbilt dealership in Tennessee, describing these as strategic moves to strengthen the network and support long-term growth. Aftermarket parts, service, and collision center revenues totaled $2.5 billion for the year, with Q4 aftermarket revenues at $625.2 million. The CEO stated, “While aftermarket conditions were challenging in 2025, we continue to see strength in key customer segments such as the public sector and medium-duty leasing.” Rush sold 12,432 new Class 8 trucks in 2025, representing 5.8% of the U.S. market, and 338 in Canada. New U.S. Class 4 through 7 commercial vehicle sales totaled 12,285, down 8.5%, but market share increased to 5.7%. The company sold 6,977 used trucks, down 1.9% year-over-year. Earnings Call Insights: Huntsman Corporation (HUN) Q4 2025 Management View Peter Huntsman, Chairman, President & CEO, outlined the challenges faced in 2025, referencing missed optimism in North American housing, slow Chinese consumer confidence, and significant industrial losses in Europe, but emphasized resilience: “Despite these hurdles, we continue to cut and restructure our cost basis, closing multiple facilities. We achieved growth in most of our tonnage that exceeded the general market while attempting to lead multiple price increases. And perhaps most importantly, we converted 45% of our EBITDA to free cash flow, a higher percentage than many in the industry.” (Chairman, President & CEO Peter Huntsman) Management anticipates a “gradual recovery in North American homebuilding and durable goods as well as an improvement in the Chinese domestic markets.” Early signs of improved volumes and pricing in Europe were noted, though Huntsman cautioned that “it is too early to say these increases will fully materialize, but we remain hopeful.” Huntsman stated that 2026 “will continue to be another year of changing market dynamics,” pointing to further opportunities for mergers, joint ventures, and industry consolidation. The company aims to at least “generate enough cash to cover our dividend” through structural changes and growth initiatives, including “winning business through new product development and innovation, pushing to fill out capacities and upgrade materials through our MDI splitter in Geismar, capacity increases in high-purity amines for the tech industry and catalysts, and expanding capabilities and material usage in aerospace, power and the fast-evolving auto industry.” Selective AI tool deployment is planned to “reduce costs, simplify processes and expand our R&D capabilities.” CFO Philip Lister stated, “We targeted $100 million of cost savings overall, which was headcount reductions of approximately 500, which is almost 10% of the workforce and closure ...
