It is based on Warren Buffett’s regulatory 13F Form filed on 02/17/2026. Please visit our Tracking 10 Years Of Berkshire Hathaway's Investment Portfolio article series for an idea of how his holdings have progressed over the years and our previous update for the moves during Q3 2025. During Q4 2025, Berkshire Hathaway’s ( BRK.A ) ( BRK.B ) 13F stock portfolio value increased from ~$267B to ~$274B. The top five positions account for ~70% of the portfolio: Apple Inc., American Express, Bank of America, Coca-Cola, and Chevron. There are 40 individual stock positions, many of which are small compared to the overall size of the portfolio. Warren Buffett’s writings ( PDFs ) are a treasure trove of information and are a very good source for anyone starting out on individual investing. So are the classics “The Intelligent Investor” and “Security Analysis.” Note 1: It was disclosed in August 2020 that Berkshire had built ~5% stakes in five Japanese trading businesses: ITOCHU, Marubeni, Mitsubishi, Mitsui, and Sumitomo. The stakes increased to over 10% each as of Q1 2025. The 2021 AR had the following regarding the initial purchases in three of them: 5.6% ownership stake in ITOCHU Corporation ( ITOCF ) at a cost basis of $4.70, 5.5% ownership stake in Mitsubishi Corporation ( MSBHF ) at a cost basis of $8.57, and 5.7% ownership stake in Mitsui & Co. ( MITSF ) at a cost basis of $8.65. ITOCF, MSBHF, and MITSF currently trade at ~$15, ~$32, and ~$36, respectively. The cost basis is adjusted to reflect stock splits. Note 2: Berkshire Hathaway fully exited their stake in BYD Company ( BYDDY ) by September 2025. Their ownership stake was ~20% as of Q3 2022. The stake fell below the 5% ownership threshold during Q2 2024. New Stakes: New York Times ( NYT ): NYT is 0.13% of the portfolio position establis...

When weighing its dual mandate of managing employment and inflation, the Federal Reserve’s Open Market Committee, which determines monetary policy, concluded that inflation risks had tilted to the upside but the balance of risks had shifted such that the downside risks to employment had risen in recent months, making it appropriate to lower rates to stabilize the labor market. The decision to cut rates in December, however, was marked by significant internal division, and resulted in a 9-3 vote with dissents from officials favoring no rate change at all and one governor advocating for a larger, half-point cut. The lack of a unanimous vote highlights the tension between the Fed’s two mandates and a growing debate within the Committee regarding whether inflation or labor market weakness poses the greater threat to the economy. Treasury yields for one- to five-year maturity bonds decreased slightly during the quarter while yields rose slightly for longer maturity Treasuries. Spreads on investment grade and high yield debt decreased further during the quarter. Aside from one investment during the quarter, we did not generally view Credit (investments rated BBB or lower) as attractively priced. We seek to opportunistically invest in Credit when we believe prices adequately compensate for the risk of permanent impairment of capital and near-term mark-to-market risk. Due to low spreads, we focused on buying longer-duratio...

matejmo/iStock via Getty Images Taxable Bond Market Review U.S. taxable investment-grade bonds advanced 1.10% in the fourth quarter of 2025, as measured by the Bloomberg U.S. Aggregate Bond Index. This result capped a year of elevated volatility, yet one in which the bond market posted gains in all four quarters. For the full year, the Aggregate index rose 7.30%, its best annual result since 2020. Quarterly performance was fueled by a combination of elevated starting yields and price appreciation, as bond prices rose amid falling interest rates and investor demand, supported by stable fundamentals. The U.S. Federal Reserve, after resuming the monetary easing program it had paused from January until September of this year, followed through with additional policy rate reductions in October and December. The three rate cuts in 2025's second half, each of a quarter percentage point (25 basis points), brought the federal funds rate down to a target range of 3.5% to 3.75%, from a peak range of 5.25% to 5.5%, which the central bank maintained from July 2023 to September 2024. The reductions drove short-term bond yields lower and contributed to gains for the investment-grade bond market in October and November (both +0.62%). Following its December meeting, though, Fed officials signaled they might hold steady for now. With progress on inflation stalled – monthly metrics continued to show U.S. consumer inflation moving within a tight range around 3%, above the Fed's 2% target – and labor-market statistics softening but remaining relatively resilient, Fed Chair Jerome Powell indicated a wait-and-see stance and said, "We're well-positioned to see how the economy evolves from here." This announcement shifted the market's expectation for additional rate cuts deeper into 2026, and the Aggregate index took a small step back in December (-0.15%). For the three months, short-term bond yields fell in step with the benchmark interest rate, but long-term yields rose marginally, a funct...
