Eben Upton was on a ski holiday in California on Monday when he noticed shares in his company were ticking up. Upton, the chief executive officer of Raspberry Pi Holdings Plc , was watching the start of a blistering rally that drew comparisons to the meme stock mania that drove companies like GameStop Corp. to dizzying valuations. Shares in his British maker of small, low-cost computers rose as much as 94% this week. The post ricocheted around the internet and sent the stock soaring. “It does seem like people are picking us for these applications,” Upton said in a phone call with Bloomberg News. “I don’t know if ‘meme stock’ is a slur or not. There is obviously a retail element to our shareholder base.” Raspberry Pi shares hit a high of 550.5 pence on Wednesday. They were trading at 414.2 pence at 9:40 a.m. in London on Thursday, marking a 46% gain this week. OpenClaw is an AI agent, or software that integrates with email and messaging apps to perform tasks, rather than just answering questions like ChatGPT and other chatbots. Developers have used the agent to fight legal claims, build a social media network from scratch and, when it goes wrong, spam their loved ones . Many choose to run the agent on affordable computers such as Apple Inc. ’s Mac Mini, or the latest Raspberry Pi 5. Raspberry Pi doesn’t ship directly to consumers so has yet to see an uptick in demand, Upton said. The company makes about 70% of its sales from customers using its devices in industrial and embedded applications. It also has a hardcore base of enthusiasts, many of whom share DIY projects involving the tiny computers on Reddit and YouTube. Those efforts often use OpenClaw, which was formerly ...
