The tendrils of the Epstein scandal keep growing for the UK’s royal family. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, already stripped of his princehood, was arrested today on suspicion of misconduct . His brother, King Charles, pledged Buckingham Palace’s “full and wholehearted support” with investigating authorities. The arrest appears to be the first of a UK royal since Charles I in the 17th century. While no charges have yet been filed, Mountbatten-Windsor’s apprehension follows further revelations about his relationship to Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted child sex offender who died in custody seven years ago. Evidence suggests the King’s younger brother may have shared confidential information with Epstein while serving as the government’s trade envoy. To be sure, the British monarchy isn’t alone in confronting the embarrassing connections revealed by the release of millions of Epstein files recently by the US Department of Justice. From Goldman Sachs’s former top lawyer to Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and retail tycoon Leslie Wexner , Epstein’s network reads like a who’s who of the rich and powerful. Even Russian President Vladimir Putin makes an appearance. A 2014 document suggests the Kremlin leader was ready to receive the disgraced financier but that Epstein declined the offer after deeming it insufficient. What You Need to Know Today Time is running out for Iran and the US to ward off a new military clash. The United Nations nuclear watchdog told us today “there is not much time” to reach a compromise over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program. This week, the US has continued to accumulate military assets in the region, while Iran conducted naval drills with Russia that temporarily restricted some shipments through the Strait of Hormuz — a key choke point for energy exports. While the White House and oil traders have been relatively sanguine over the potential for a conflict to seriously impact world energy prices, Bloomberg Opinion ’s Javier Blas writes they may be...

NANCY PAUWELS/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. ( NCLH ) benefited from major positive price action this week after investor Elliott Investment Management disclosed that it has taken an activist position in the cruise line company, causing a 12% share price increase. Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has been underperforming its cruise line peers in recent years, mainly due to high operating costs as well as a high amount of debt that the company still carries from the sector bailout from 2020. I like the investment setup here, however, and believe the activist involvement could drive the share price higher in 2026... if Elliott Investment Management unlocks value, pushes for cost cuts, and accelerates debt repayments. Seeking Alpha Previous Rating I recommended shares of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings as a buy last time in May 2025 -- Too Cheap To Ignore -- which resulted in a strong buy rating at the time, chiefly because I liked the sector post-pandemic recovery. In my opinion, the new activist stake in the cruise line company creates a powerful catalyst for NCLH and its investors, as Elliott Investment Management is likely going to push for an improvement in the firm’s operating and financial performance. Activist Stake Is A Major Catalyst For NCLH, Potential To Correct Under-Performance On February 17, 2026, Elliott Investment Management disclosed a massive 10% economic interest in Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, positioning itself as one of the company's largest shareholders. The activist investor is set to seek the addition of new independent directors on the company’s board and is likely to push for significant concessions from management in terms of lowering operating costs as well as the NCLH's formidable debt. Elliott Investment Management has so far called for a comprehensive reconstitution of the cruise line company’s board, criticizing recent leadership choices. Additionally, the institutional investor is allegedly seek...

Property Play covers new and evolving opportunities for the real estate investor, from individuals to venture capitalists, private equity funds, family offices, institutional investors and large public companies. Sign up to receive future editions, straight to your inbox. Capital deployment into property technology took a major jump to start 2026, even though overall deal volume didn't change much, according to a new report. Fifty prop tech and adjacent companies raised approximately $1.7 billion globally during the month, according to a monthly report from the Center for Real Estate Technology and Innovation. That's a 176% gain from January 2025, when 48 deals closed totaling $615 million. "The comparison highlights a critical dynamic shaping the current venture environment: deal count has remained stable, but capital deployment has accelerated sharply," wrote Ashkán Zandieh, founder and managing director at CRETI. "Early-year data suggests that investor appetite has not broadly expanded across all stages, but rather concentrated around fewer, larger, and more established platforms." The average dollar amount per deal rose from roughly $12.8 million in January 2025 to about $34 million in January 2026. A small number of very large transactions clearly had their impact, suggesting that there is not a general inflation in early-stage funding, but more willingness among big investors to make bigger bets. Seed, pre-seed and Series A funding made up only a small share of total investment. Venture and corporate rounds made up $459 million, "reflecting sustained support for companies beyond initial product-market validation," according to Zandieh. Examples of that in January included Mews, Property Finder and Span, which saw infusions from large, multi-investor syndicates that included growth equity firms, corporate venture arms and institutional asset managers. "One of the fac...

Douglas Rissing/iStock via Getty Images The Supreme Court is likely to rule on the Trump Administration’s International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) tariffs as early as tomorrow. So far, prediction markets put the chances of ruling against the Trump Administration above 70%, and as far as I can tell, the general legal consensus is that the Administration’s legal arguments, at best, stand on shaky ground. Two lower courts have already ruled against the tariffs as well. Ultimately, I believe the IEEPA tariffs will be overturned, and this will likely provide a strong tailwind for investment markets. However, I also suspect that markets could be in for more turmoil in the weeks ahead as the Trump Administration turns to other legal foundations to enact protectionist trade measures, thus increasing turmoil. While I don’t believe the Supreme Court ruling is likely to completely end the current bull market, it’s wise for investors to consider the potential impact of the Court’s decision (including if it bucks expectations and upholds the tariffs). If The Supreme Court Rules Against Tariffs, Expect Short-Term Bounce, But Increased Turmoil Thereafter If the Supreme Court overturns these tariffs as widely expected, I’d be surprised by anything but a solid market U.S. equity bounce. So far, inflation has been more tame than what was widely expected when President Trump first kicked off the global trade war. However, this seems to be due to difficulties passing costs along to customers, thus forcing businesses to absorb more of the costs. Quite simply, many people are already tight on cash and don’t have room to spend more. Retail sales were flat in the 2025 holiday season, and price-conscious consumers chased promotions and deals rather vigorously. In the restaurant industry, those businesses that have failed to prioritize value have struggled . Rent and house prices in at least some markets appear to be peaking and retreating. So on and so forth. That said, turbulenc...

Every weekday the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer holds a "Morning Meeting" livestream at 10:20 a.m. ET. Here's a recap of Thursday's key moments. 1. The S & P 500 fell Thursday as tensions brewed between the U.S. and Iran. With the geopolitical uncertainty on the rise, Jim Cramer said Thursday's stock market sluggishness could be a sign that some traders want to take down their equity exposure into the weekend. Crude prices are also spiking on concerns about potential supply disruptions out of Iran, an OPEC member. CrowdStrike is among the Club stocks bucking the broader market, up about 1%. But it's still down around 10% year to date, and Jim said he believes the security risks from growing AI adoption a big driver for CrowdStrike's business thwarting attacks. "This is what I'd buy first," Jim said. "This is the one to buy because it's business is getting stronger with more [agentic AI]." 2. Club holding Texas Roadhouse will report quarterly earnings after the bell. Although we're expecting strong same-store sales for the steakhouse chain, Jim is worried about weaker margins due to beef inflation. Management has already guided commodity inflation of 7% for 2026. Still, if this figure goes up, it could means bad news for the portfolio stock. The Club cut our Texas Roadhouse position in half on Wednesday ahead of earnings. It was our third sale of 2026. 3. Massive orders for Boeing 's jets couldn't send the stock any higher. Shares fell nearly 1% Thursday despite news that the company signed a deal to sell around 100 aircrafts to Vietnamese-based carriers. The orders are worth more than $30 billion. The move lower doesn't change our conviction in Boeing though. Jim said he remains "steadfast" on the company's turnaround plan with CEO Kelly Ortberg in charge. 4. Stocks covered in Thursday's rapid fire at the end of the video were: Walmart , DoorDash , Carvana , Molson Coors and Dell. (See here for a full list of the stocks in Jim Cramer's Charitable Trust.) Top of the league, Wembley trip booked, sweeping through Europe, and blessed with a cushty FA Cup draw – it’s fair to say the Arsenal garden is in full, radiant bloom. At least, it was until they travelled to a wet and windy Molineux to play a match the Premier League surreptitiously slipped into the schedule like a worm tablet hidden in a dog’s dinner. In Wolves, Mikel Arteta’s side were facing a team who are not only the worst in the top flight by some distance, but one who have only recently begun battling to avoid going down as the most awful of all time. Having taken a two-goal lead, the only logical question centred around how many more Arsenal would spank past their hapless hosts. Instead, logic gave way to the objective hilarity of a collective on and off-field meltdown as the Gunners managed to turn what should have been a stroll into an inexplicable 2-2 draw. Leon Botstein spent half a century building Bard College from a tiny school in New York’s Hudson Valley into an elite liberal arts institution known for its progressive agenda. Now, despite his well-documented relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and consternation from some students and alumni, those decades leading the school are helping Botstein avoid the fate of Wall Street leaders, politicians and academics, forced into stepping down. Instead of hiding, the school still plans to throw a gala in his honor at luxury Manhattan event venue Cipriani next month, celebrating his accomplishments after 50 years at the institution. Botstein spent time with the disgraced financier, including on a trip to the Caribbean in 2012, according to emails released by the US Department of Justice . One message shows photographs of Epstein and Botstein together in an office surrounded by books. Botstein said that Epstein was a prospective donor, not his friend, and that his interactions were “solely focused on the effort to secure funds for the programs of Bard College,” in a letter to the campus on Feb. 10. He noted the school was facing financial constraints at the time after the 2008 recession. The longtime principal conductor of the American Symphony Orchestra has been president of Bard since 1975, a very rare tenure among US college heads who are often embattled with political and social pressures. Under his leadership, the school built its first endowment which reached $1 billion this year. Botstein is synonymous with the school itself, having served as its head since his late 20s. Forcing him to depart would be tantamount to closing the college altogether, said longtime trustee Asher Edelman , who joined the board in the 1970s and is now a life trustee. “He led this college to be the leading light in liberal arts education,” he said in an interview. Bard, located about two hours north of New York City, has about 1,900 undergraduate students across its camp...
