watch now VIDEO 19:11 19:11 YouTube creator Jesser on the explosion of sports creator content CNBC Sport The future of the NBA's media strategy was taking shape at this year's All-Star weekend. The fanfare has always been about showcasing the league's best players. But this year, the event was as much about the league's partnership with content creators as it was on-the-court talent. More than 200 global creators took part in the events Thursday through Sunday, facilitated by the league. It showed the NBA appears more than happy to partner with content creators rather than limit their game access to wall off the value of live rights – where the league makes most of its money. The NBA's new 11-year, $77 billion media rights deal began this season with deals with Comcast's NBCUniversal, Disney and Amazon. The NBA is betting its future has space for both a growing creator base and the traditional game viewing experience that has fueled its revenue growth. "The NBA has a long history of collaborating with talented creators who share our commitment to bringing the excitement of our games and events to fans around the world," NBA Senior Vice President of Social and Digital Content Bob Carney said in a statement . "We're thrilled to join forces with more creators than ever at NBA All-Star, providing opportunities for them to be active participants across virtually every event and deliver engaging content that showcases this marquee NBA event to different audiences." A few months ago, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver called the NBA "a highlights-based sport" and pointed fans to Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube for league content. Silver has decided it's worth partnering with creators to keep Generation Z and Generation Alpha interested in the NBA as those age groups move away from watching full games the way their parents did. Embracing social media is a risky play for Silver, given the vast majority of the league's revenue comes from the value of live games. The NBA's big medi...

Justin Paget/DigitalVision via Getty Images Shares of Pool Corporation ( POOL ) have been a poor performer over the past year, losing about a quarter of their value. While maintenance activity and market share gains have helped to provide some support for results, new pool construction activity has been weak as consumers limit spending on large projects. These pressures were apparent in Q4, with the company disappointing investors with its results and outlook. I last covered POOL in November when I reiterated shares as a "S ell," and they are down 7% since then. With updated financials and increased optimism about housing activity in 2026, now is a good time to revisit POOL. Seeking Alpha Operating expenses pressure margins In the company’s fourth quarter , Pool Corporation earned $0.85 per share, which was $0.12 below expectations as revenue fell slightly to $982 million. For the full year, EBITDA declined by about $26 million to $654 million. For the full year, the company earned $10.85, which included $0.12 of tax benefits. This was down 3% from 2024 as construction levels remain weak and expansion efforts pressure margins. Results do not offer any sign that the business is about to rebound significantly. Now, thanks to pricing actions, gross margins improved by 70 bps to 30.1%. As a result, gross profit increased by 2% to $296 million. Offsetting this, operating expenses rose by 6% to $244 million, a sharp pace considering the lack of revenue growth. Higher employee and health insurance costs have weighed. Additionally, the company has been opening more POOL360 locations, though with flat revenue, they are not yet contributing sufficient sales, leading to incremental margin pressure. As a result of this expense pressure, operating income fell by 14% to $52 million. It is important to remember that only a minority of Pool’s business is tied to the construction of pools. Most of its business is for maintenance work, chemicals, etc. While there is still some cyclic...

An ex- Commerzbank AG analyst who made bogus sexual harassment allegations against a former colleague and lied to courts in a bid to win an employment lawsuit had is jail term cut by a London appeals court. Damilare Ajao was found in contempt of court after allegations he made at a tribunal proved to be false and was initially sentenced to 20 months in prison. On Thursday, the Court of Appeal reduced the term to eight months after it found that the previous judge used the wrong sentencing guidelines. The appeals court dismissed the prospect of a suspended sentence given that there was no real prospect of rehabilitation. Ajao, who worked as a compliance analyst, has “shown no remorse or understanding of what he has done is wrong,” Judge Clive Lewis said in court. Commerzbank alleged at hearings that Ajao lied to the court and his allegations had an adverse effect on the health of a female colleague he accused of harassment. A judge previously said a sexual assault claim against one colleague was “ pure invention ” and that he was “unworthy of belief.” A lawyer for Ajao didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

One prominent billionaire investor who rightly garners attention during 13F filing season (13Fs covering fourth-quarter trading activity were due on Feb. 17) is David Tepper of Appaloosa. Tepper's $6.4 billion investment portfolio is growth-stock oriented and strongly focused on game-changing trends, which, at the moment, means artificial intelligence (AI) . Earnings Call Insights: Kaiser Aluminum Corporation (KALU) Q4 2025 Management View CEO Keith Harvey stated that "our fourth quarter results continue to build on the momentum we've established throughout the year. This marks our fifth consecutive quarter of performance ahead of our internal expectations and we exceeded the full year outlook we provided in October." Harvey highlighted that start-up costs moderated and metal pricing remained a tailwind. He underscored delivering more than 25% EBITDA growth for the year, with margins above 21% and record EBITDA in 2025, further noting, "we are positioned to harvest the returns from our recent investments, continue strengthening margins and generate free cash flow as we execute efficiently across the portfolio." CFO Neal West reported, "our full year total net sales were $3.4 billion... our conversion revenue for the year was $1.5 billion, relatively consistent with 2024." West detailed, "adjusted EBITDA for the year was $310 million, up approximately $69 million from 2024," and noted improved margins to 21.3%. He added, "our net debt leverage ratio was 3.4x, an improvement from the 4.3x at December 31, 2024." West also explained, "2025 capital expenditures came in at $137 million," with major growth projects completed. He announced, "in 2025, we returned approximately $51 million to our shareholders through dividend payments." Outlook Harvey projected 2026 as a record year for both conversion revenue and EBITDA. For aerospace and high-strength products, he indicated shipments are expected to increase "in the range of 10% to 15% in 2026 with conversion revenue expected up approximately 5% to 10%." Packaging shipments are targeted to grow 5% to 10% and conversion revenue 15% to 20%. General engineering shipments and conversion revenue are expected to grow 3% to 5% year-over-year. Automotive shipments and conversion revenue are anticipated to decline by 5% to 10%, primarily due to planned outages, rather than demand. Harve...

American Express ' (NYSE: AXP) stock has rallied about 160% over the past five years. The financial services giant remained an evergreen investment, even as inflation, rising interest rates, geopolitical conflicts, and other macroeconomic headwinds rattled the global economy. Let's see if its stock will keep rising through the end of the decade. American Express is often considered a credit card company, but it doesn't operate the same business model as Visa (NYSE: V) and Mastercard (NYSE: MA) . Visa and Mastercard don't issue their own cards; they partner with banks to co-issue branded cards, earning "swipe fees" whenever those cards are used. They don't handle those accounts or collect the payments. Image source: Getty Images. Continue reading

WTI Extends Geopolitical Risk Gains After Across-The-Board Inventory Draws Oil prices pushed higher Thursday on worries that nuclear talks between US and Iran might not avert a new conflict that could threaten supplies. "Oil is extending its gains, with Brent crude back above $70 a barrel... as fears of a military confrontation between the US and Iran rattled energy markets," said Matt Britzman, senior equity analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown. "Nuclear talks between the two sides appear to be going nowhere fast, and the geopolitical premium is clearly back in play," he added. On top of that, API reported an across the board draw in energy inventories. “The failure to resolve core areas of contention continues to tip the scales in favor of another military confrontation,” RBC Capital Markets analysts including Helima Croft said in a note. “The massive buildup of US military assets in the region as well as the recent Iranian naval exercise in the Strait of Hormuz seem to suggest that the launch sequence for a second military conflict has commenced.” Will the official data confirm API's draws and build (pun intended) on the geopolitical risk premia in crude prices... quantic69/iStock via Getty Images Introduction In the midst of the AI frenzy, Dell ( DELL ) was one of the hottest stocks. Now that we are seeing a capex-fear-driven rotation out of the hyperscalers and their supply chain into energy, materials, consumer staples, industrials, and utilities, Dell appears as a stock that investors are leaving behind. We can see below that most sectors in the S&P 500 are up considerably YTD, with only a handful of laggards that are not truly down. However, sectors such as technology, communication services, and financials have a larger weight on the index, as we all know. This is why, overall, the S&P 500 is barely in the green, while the equal-weighted index ( RSP ) is up 6.5% YTD, which was an idea I discussed when I shared my 2026 market outlook, talking about " the revenge of the S&P 493 ." Data by YCharts Where Dell Currently Sits I started covering Dell when I chose it as one of the top 3 picks for 2024, and it was, indeed, the best-performing one among the three. In case you have no idea how the company is organized and structured, I suggest reading one of my past articles. But, just to keep things simpler, be aware that Dell operates in the hardware business and splits its operations into two segments: Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) and Client Solutions Group (CSG). We could say that Dell is more or less positioned in the middle of the tech value chain. It sources components and then designs and assembles them to build servers (in particular, AI-optimized servers) and to provide network equipment and storage solutions. This is what falls in the ISG business. CSG, on the other hand, focuses on what makes Dell more renowned: notebooks, desktops, and peripheral devices. Both segments generate more or less 60% of their sales in the Americas, as we read in its FY25 10-K . At the end of the last fiscal year, ISG reported net revenues of $43.6B, up 29% YoY, and managed to increase its operating margin by 20 bps to 12.8% (FY24: 1...

France ’s constitutional court cleared the 2026 budget including a series of measures aimed at taxing the wealthy, a decision that paves the way for President Emmanuel Macron to finally promulgate the finance bill. Judges validated the procedure for adopting the law and declared the vast majority of its provisions constitutional. They struck down some minor elements on the grounds they had no place in a budget and added notes to two provisions to ensure their application is constitutional. The validation marks one of the final steps in Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu ’s politically treacherous, months-long path to getting a budget passed for this year. In verifying three tax-the-rich policies — on Lecornu’s request — the court was focusing on one of the most contentious issues to emerge during the political debate. The Socialist party — on whose support the government depended to avoid being toppled in no-confidence votes — had demanded the wealthy pay more. Judges said on Thursday the procedures to adopt new levies on the country’s richest citizens and changes to rules on passing down family companies were in keeping with the constitution. The court did not rule on the constitutionality of the measures themselves as there were no direct complaints formulated by the prime minister or during parliamentary debate. It’s not clear how much the measures will raise for the government, but their reach is far narrower than the so-called Zucman wealth tax that left-leaning parties had initially pushed for and that they could resurrect in next year’s presidential campaign. The three measures that were put before the court “have a relatively limited scope,” said Olivier Janoray, a partner at Duroc Partners and specialist in wealth taxation. “What’s worrying clients is what is going to happen after 2027.” One of the measures would, for the first time, place a tax — set at 20% — on certain “non-professional” assets held in holding companies. These could include yachts, jewelry,...
