Traders work at the New York Stock Exchange on Feb. 18, 2026. NYSE Stock futures were little changed Thursday night ahead of the release of crucial economic data and a potential key ruling from the Supreme Court on President Donald Trump's tariffs. Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 6 points, or 0.01%. S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures hovered just below the flatline. Traders will get an update on the state of the economy Friday morning, with the release of the gross domestic product report for the fourth quarter. Economists polled by Dow Jones see real GDP gaining 2.5%. The 4.4% advance in the third quarter sharply surpassed estimates . The personal consumption expenditures price index report — the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge — is also due. The headline reading is expected to show a 2.8% advance on a year-over-year basis, according to economists polled by Dow Jones. The core PCE, which excludes volatile and energy prices, is expected to have risen 3% over the prior 12 months. Fed policymakers are divided between officials who are worried about supporting the labor market and those who are more concerned about inflation. The pace of price increases has generally trended lower, but inflation is still ahead of the central bank's 2% mandate. Minutes from the January Fed meeting indicate that some officials will need to see more evidence that inflation is cooling before voting for additional interest rate cuts. Friday may also bring a highly anticipated Supreme Court decision , as many on Wall Street expect a ruling on the legality of Trump's tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Traders mostly believe the stock market will react positively if the duties are knocked down, even with expectations the White House will use other means to reapply them at another time. The Supreme Court, which doesn't divulge beforehand the cases it will rule on, also has decision days scheduled for next Tuesday and Wednesday. "...

Each episode of HBO's The Pitt features some degree of medical trauma that almost makes the hospital drama feel like a horror series. Some patients are dealing with gnarly lacerations while others are fighting off vicious blood infections that could rob them of their limbs, and the chaos of working in an emergency room often leaves The Pitt 's central characters shaken. But as alarming as many of The Pitt 's more gore-forward moments can be, what's even more unsettling is the show's slow-burning subplot about hospitals adopting generative artificial intelligence. In its second season, The Pitt once again chronicles all the events that happen … Read the full story at The Verge.

Oil steadied near a six-month high as US President Donald Trump said Iran had 15 days at most to strike a deal over its nuclear program. West Texas Intermediate traded below $67 a barrel, after adding about 7% in the prior two sessions, while Brent closed near $72. Trump said he thought 10 to 15 days was “pretty much” the “maximum” he would allow for negotiations to continue. The US has carried out the biggest military buildup in the Middle East since 2003, before the invasion of Iraq, suggesting Trump is giving himself discretion to launch a sustained campaign lasting many days, in cooperation with Israel. While discussions have focused on a military operation far more sweeping than the overnight attack the US launched against Iran’s nuclear program last June, the president is also weighing a limited early strike designed to drive Tehran to the negotiating table, the Wall Street Journal reported . The US deployment in the region means Iran’s window to reach a diplomatic agreement over its atomic activities is at risk of closing, according to the head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog. The agency has discussed concrete proposals with Iran to inspect sites bombed last year by Israel and the US. Before the previous military operation against Iran, Trump also signaled he would give diplomacy a chance, saying he would make a decision on whether to strike “within the next two weeks.” The attacks were carried out two days later. Oil has surged about a sixth this year as traders weigh the risk to supply of a conflict in the Middle East — which pumps about a third of the world’s crude. That has eclipsed expectations of a building surplus that had weighed on prices at the end of 2025. To get Bloomberg’s Energy Daily newsletter in your inbox, click here . Alones Creative/iStock via Getty Images Overview Although this is my first formal evaluation of Block, Inc. ( XYZ ), I have a lot of familiarity with the company and its products. The one thing that struck me as I was reviewing some numbers was Block's (apparently) anemic growth and surprisingly low cash generation—just 0.5% YoY revenue growth and 5.2% free cash flow margins over the past two years. Just a few years ago, Block—formerly Square—was an up-and-coming fintech, firing on all cylinders. But some things have happened since then. Block was a beneficiary of pandemic-driven tailwinds that saw consumers switch to digital payments. The company’s foray into Bitcoin—a major contributor to growth during the 2021 crypto bull run—now drags its bottom line. Add in decelerating user spending, sector uncertainty, increased competition (e.g., Toast ( TOST ) and Fiserv’s ( FISV ) Clover), and Afterpay integration costs—and you can begin to understand why XYZ trades where it does today. Data by YCharts But that’s in the past. The article that follows zeroes in on Block’s current valuation (and what it implies about future expectations) and examines how realistic it is (or not) for the company to turn things around. Q3 Performance Block’s revenue growth is being dragged down by Bitcoin’s ( BTC-USD ) performance. Author's Compilation You see, Block allows Bitcoin purchases by acquiring the asset and reselling it to users for a tiny premium. Q3 Bitcoin revenue—$1.97 billion—was down 19% YoY (impacting its Cash App performance). If you peel away Bitcoin-related volatility, Block’s core services (Square & Cash App) are growing in the double-digits . For Square, Block’s “upmarket” strategy is paying off. Its 12.2% GPV growth was thanks to “mid-market” sellers—who now represent nearly half of Square’s total volume. And larger sellers tend to be more “sticky,” which boosts the platform’s revenue durability. Cash App continues to be popular. Subscription and service revenue grew 22...

SAMT Strategy Strategas Macro Thematic Opportunities ETF ( SAMT ) is an actively managed ETF launched on 01/24/2022 with an objective of long-term capital appreciation. SAMT has 40 holdings, a dividend yield of 0.69%, and a total expense ratio of 0.66%. As described in the prospectus by Strategas Asset Management , SAMT primarily invests in common stocks that “ correlate to macro-thematic trends. ” The Adviser seeks to have the Fund outperform the broader U.S. equity market. The fund follows a top-down approach starting from the economy, fiscal and monetary policy changes, cultural and socioeconomic trends, and developments arising from global crises. The fund intends to identify three to five thematic trends and invest in them approximately in equal weight. Recent thematic trends include artificial intelligence, cash flow aristocrats, de-globalization, and industrial power renaissance (utility infrastructure updating). Quantitative and qualitative factors are used to select securities in each thematic trend. The fund’s turnover rate was 91% in the most recent fiscal year and 150% in the previous year. This article uses as a benchmark the Russell 1000 Index, represented by iShares Russell 1000 ETF ( IWB ). SAMT Portfolio The portfolio currently has 13.7% of asset value in cash, 5% in short-term Treasury Bill ETFs, and 81.3% in stocks. The stock basket has about 45% of assets in large and mega-caps, 29% in mid-caps, and 25% in small/micro caps, almost exclusively U.S. companies (only 6% of assets are in international companies). SAMT is quite balanced in its top two sectors, industrials (19.7%) and technology (18.9%), while other sectors are below 11%. Compared to the benchmark, SAMT significantly overweighs industrials, materials, and utilities, while it downplays technology, financials, energy, and real estate. SAMT sector...

Donald Trump’s global trade war has not had (as of yet anyway) the desired effect when it comes to America’s yawning trade deficit. In fact, the gap grew in December to $70.3 billion. This according to data from his own administration. The US Commerce Department reported that the shortfall culminated in a full-year deficit of $901.5 billion— one of the largest in data back to 1960 . Trump has said tariffs are part of his strategy to reduce US reliance on foreign goods, encourage domestic investment and correct decades of declines in manufacturing employment. Recent data however has borne out a year of warnings from economists, showing it is largely American consumers and companies who are paying for Trump’s tariffs rather than foreign countries. “After all the tariff headlines and swings in the data, the trade deficit barely budged in 2025,” Nationwide Financial Market Economist Oren Klachkin said in a note. And those tariffs, many of which were ruled illegal by a federal appeals court, could be the subject of a US Supreme Court decision any day now . What You Need to Know Today Trump Warns Iran With Attack Deadline The US president has sent a naval force to the region unseen since the Iraq War, saying Tehran has 10 to 15 days to strike a new nuclear deal. The move highlights the hazards confronting retail investors entering the fast-growing private credit market. Though investors are generally allowed to redeem a portion of their capital each quarter, payouts can be curtailed if withdrawal requests exceed set limits. The news also rekindled fears in an industry that has attracted increasing scrutiny in recent months. Worries are risi...
