Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) recently had to drop its internally developed GLP-1 weight loss drug candidate. The unfortunate outcome is that the company has had to watch rivals Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly build early leads in this fast-growing drug niche. With Pfizer facing patent expirations ahead -- and now this GLP-1 setback -- Wall Street remains downbeat on the stock. But that's a potential opportunity for long-term investors. Pfizer's dividend yield is a lofty 6.2%. That's well above the 1.1% yield offered by the S&P 500 index and the 1.7% yield of the average pharmaceutical stock. And the company recently provided longer-term financial guidance that included a commitment to maintaining the dividend. Continue reading

Earnings Call Insights: PPL Corporation (PPL) Q4 2025 Management View Vincent Sorgi, President, CEO & Director, highlighted that “we finished the year exactly where we said we would, delivering safe and reliable electricity and natural gas service to more than 3.5 million customers and achieving our stated financial targets for investors.” He reported ongoing earnings of $1.81 per share, 7.1% growth from the prior year. Sorgi announced an updated business plan: “For 2026, we're issuing ongoing earnings guidance of $1.90 to $1.98 per share, with a midpoint of $1.94 per share, representing 7.2% growth from 2025. We're extending our 6% to 8% annual EPS growth target through at least 2029, expecting the EPS CAGR through 2029 to be near the top end of that range based off of our 2025 ongoing earnings.” The company plans $23 billion in capital investments from 2026 through 2029, an increase from the previous $20 billion plan, targeting grid hardening, modernization, and new generation in Kentucky. “Our updated plan includes the critical investments that strengthen our networks against those more frequent and severe storms and other extreme weather impacts,” Sorgi stated. Sorgi shared regulatory updates, including a Kentucky rate case approval resulting in an aggregate increase of approximately $233 million in annual electric and gas revenues and approved ROEs of 9.775% for both utilities. He also noted progress on Pennsylvania and Rhode Island rate cases, with decisions expected in mid-2026. The Pennsylvania data center pipeline was described as “projects in advanced stages… now total approximately 25.2 gigawatts, up another 23% since our last quarterly update.” On cost efficiency, Sorgi said, “we outperformed our O&M savings target by about $20 million, achieving approximately $170 million in run rate savings from our 2021 baseline, about a year ahead of our $175 million target for the end of 2026.” Sorgi highlighted a joint venture with Blackstone to build generation fo...

VioletaStoimenova/E+ via Getty Images Right around this time in 2025, Financial Institutions, Inc. ( FISI ) was reeling from the impact of a disappointing Q4 2024 financial report . Included in the results from the final three months of that year was the impact of a restructuring plan that delivered a significant blow to the company’s profitability. The first step of the plan was a public offering of stock to raise roughly $95 million, which was no small event for a company that had a market cap around $400 million at the end of 2024. The second part of the company’s restructuring efforts included selling just over $650 million in available-for-sale securities, resulting in a pre-tax loss of $100 million. This action led to FISI reporting losses for both the quarter and the full year. Financial Institutions lost about 15% of its value between mid-February and the start of April in 2025, but the short-term pains from the company appear to have set it up for potential long-term gains. Fast forward to the end of last year, and FISI appears to have put most of the negative sentiment from the past behind it. On January 29, the company released its Q4 2025 financial results , which included its fourth consecutive earnings beat and a positive outlook for the year ahead. Based on the current data available, I think that FISI deserves a cautious Buy rating with potential for additional gains above the market average this year. Company Overview Financial Institutions is a holding company that controls a banking subsidiary, Five Star Bank, and a wealth management division that operates under the name Courier Capital, LLC. Five Star Bank has roughly 50 total branch locations , all of which are located in Central and Western New York. Courier Capital serves clients in five offices – three in New York, one in Pittsburgh, PA, and one in Sarasota, FL. As of February 19, FISI has a market cap of $669.3 million, which shows the gains the company has already experienced over the last ...

Earnings Call Insights: Vicor Corporation (VICR) Q4 2025 Management View CEO Patrizio Vinciarelli described 2026 as “a year of great opportunity for Vicor,” highlighting expectations for record bookings, revenues, and profitability, and a significant increase in utilization of the company’s first chip fab. Philip Davies, Corporate VP of Global Sales & Marketing, stated, “As we exited 2025, book-to-bill ratio increased to over 1.2 in Q4 and has continued to increase in Q1. At the start of 2026, we can say that this will be a year of different challenges and greater opportunities. This should result in record bookings, revenues and profitability and significantly higher utilization of our first chip fab.” CFO James Schmidt reported, “Vicor reported product revenue for the fourth quarter of $92.7 million, up 4.5% from the third quarter total of $88.7 million and up 15.3% from the fourth quarter 2024 total of $80.4 million. Royalty revenue for the fourth quarter totaled $14.5 million, a 33.1% sequential decrease from $21.7 million in the third quarter and a 7.8% decrease from $15.8 million in the fourth quarter of 2024.” Vinciarelli emphasized ongoing IP enforcement, referencing a second investigation by the United States International Trade Commission into “illegal importation of power modules and computing systems, infringing Vicor's IP to nonisolated bus converters.” Davies noted, “Our lead customer for VPD solutions is ramping a Gen 4 factorized power system before transitioning to a Gen 5-based solution with higher current density and performance,” with the Gen 5 transition expected to begin in the second half of 2026. Outlook Management refrained from providing specific quarterly guidance, citing unpredictability in timing and amounts related to licensing. Schmidt stated, “given that we cannot predict with certainty the timing or amounts of outcomes relating to our licensing practice, we will not provide quarterly guidance.” Davies said, “As we approach high utili...

Trainer Nicky Henderson shocked by Southwell victory ‘We will have to think long and hard about his future’ The mercurial career of Constitution Hill took a dramatic upward turn on Friday as the 2023 Champion Hurdle winner turned his belated Flat debut into a procession up the Southwell straight, coming home nine and a half lengths clear of the runner-up, with Oisin Murphy, the champion jockey, motionless in his saddle. Even those closest to Constitution Hill were left astonished by his performance, which may make it increasingly likely that the champion jumping horse who had famously forgotten how to jump will now switch to racing on the Flat full-time.
