stockcam/iStock Unreleased via Getty Images Reddit ( RDDT ) on Tuesday was fined almost $20M by the UK's Information Commissioner's Office after the watchdog's probe found that the social media platform illegally used children’s personal information and put them at risk of exposure to inappropriate and harmful content. The ICO alleged Reddit did not have proper age verification systems, which led to the unlawful use of children's data by the company. The regulator also claimed Reddit failed to carry out a data protection impact assessment to assess and mitigate risks to children before January 2025. "Children under 13 had their personal information collected and used in ways they could not understand, consent to, or control," UK's Information Commissioner John Edwards said. "That left them potentially exposed to content they should not have seen. This is unacceptable and has resulted in today’s fine." The overhaul of the €1.6 trillion ($1.9 trillion) Dutch pension system and its huge shift in investment allocations is proceeding smoothly without causing substantial volatility in financial markets, according to the country’s central bank. The change by a number of funds at the start of the year was expected to spark a sharp reaction across bond and swaps markets as funds sold long-dated government debt and increased their exposure to riskier assets like stocks. Traders had made big bets to capitalize on the transition, though it appears to be much more calm than anticipated so far. “We have not seen a cliff effect,” Gita Salden , executive board member of supervision at the Dutch central bank, said at a press conference in Amsterdam on Tuesday. The revamp at the Dutch pension system, the largest in the euro area, is part of a move from so-called defined-benefit pensions to one involving defined contributions. Former Dutch central bank chief Klaas Knot was among those who’d warned that the overhaul could have an impact in markets if funds had to dump some assets and buy others quickly to meet strict supervisory and legal requirements. But that was avoided after a legal change that gave pension funds 12 extra months to adjust their investments. “You can now see that pension funds are doing this in a well spread-out manner,” Salden said. Read more: Popular Dutch Pension Trades Are Backfiring After Months of Hype The shift involves funds increasing allocations to riskier assets, which the central bank is assessing. It said it sent supervisory letters to 80% of the transitioned funds detailing “violations” regarding determination of risk appetite. “It is important that the fund adopt an investment policy that is appropriate to the risks that their members are willing and able to bear,” it said. Salden said that funds must comply with legal requirements without delay. “This has to be solved and in order this year,” she said. “It is not optional.” Including some funds th...

Mariia Vitkovska/iStock via Getty Images By writing this article, I am fully aware that my views and suggestions outlined here will most likely collide with a large chunk of BDC income investors. As an active BDC investor and someone who is really passionate about this space, I have observed that there are two broad and frequent arguments that are used by BDC bears, or investors who think that it would be better now to sit on the sidelines until the sector's turmoil ends. Credit risk related that is about imminent bankruptcies and rising non-accruals, which would result in a steep NAV loss. Net investment income yield is related to that, and it is about decreasing NII per share result primarily due to lower SOFR and tighter spreads. Given that the BDC sector ( BIZD ) median P/NAV is 0.77x, it would be fair to assume that the market has to a large extent factored in the credit risk by effectively saying that ~23% of median BDC loan book is about to be written off (without value). The second aspect is more subtle. But I can tell you that the way this fear manifests itself is through the following thinking or argument by many BDC investors: I will wait for the interest rates to hit rock bottom, which will trigger dividend cuts and then once these cuts are realized I will enter at bargain prices. In general, I'm quite sympathetic to this approach because experiencing dividend cuts is one of the last things that I want in my durable income portfolio. However, I don't think that it is a fully logical way to go about BDC investing right now. I will explain. System-wide dividend cuts are real Let's first level set the situation. Many of my followers can probably confirm that, but I have been trying to articulate for quite some time that we are really heading towards system-wide BDC dividend cuts. And there is no rocket science involved here to understand or see it Here is the explanation in a nutshell: BDC average base dividend coverage in the sector is 99% (i.e., the avera...

The decline in crypto continued this morning, with bitcoin below $63,000 as investors grapple with escalating tariff tensions. President Donald Trump will deliver his State of the Union address tonight. The economy and his trade policies are expected to feature heavily in his remarks. 2. The fallout from the Citrini paper will continue. I talked about it last night on "Mad Money." I get the overvaluation of the enterprise software companies. ServiceNow is a perfect example because it has an aggressive buyback and big insider buying. Or Adobe , which is being replaced. Or Club name Salesforce , which has a seat problem. It doesn't matter that software is cheaper than other sectors like consumer staples. I don't know what price I should pay for companies that can be destroyed by a fictional research report. 3. Meta Platforms announced a multi-year chip deal with Advanced Micro Devices that involves deploying up to 6 gigawatts of AMD's graphics processing units for data centers. This comes just a week after Club holding Meta committed to using millions of Nvidia GPUs as well. 4. Home Depot shares were up over 2% after the retailer delivered its first quarterly beat in four quarters. I was looking for cuts and shortfalls. We didn't get them. It's surprising but heartening, considering we own Home Depot for when Trump's pick for Federal Reserve chair starts cutting interest rates. 5. JPMorgan upgraded Domino's Pizza to a buy from hold. Analysts, who lowered their price target to $450 from $460, praised the company's "steady share-taking" business model and described the company's franchise-oriented business as "remarkably stable." I really like this stock, and that's because CEO Russell Weiner has made a well-oiled machine by integrating other delivery types. 6. TD Cowen cut its CrowdStrike price target to $480 from $580, reflecting the stock's recent ...

More than half of the people who live in the United States’ second-largest trading partner — that’s Canada — believe their southern neighbor poses a greater security risk than China, new polling shows. Meanwhile, Mexico, which is the largest US trading partner, killed a major drug cartel boss in a raid, leading to an explosion of violence across the western state of Jalisco. Across the Atlantic, governments in Europe, which already decided they needed to quietly develop their own nuclear deterrent , are more overtly working on a new, low-cost air defense weapon with big, established companies as well as startups. Germany said it wasn’t planning to buy more Lockheed Martin Corp. F-35 stealth jets, even as the FCAS next-generation fighter collaboration between Airbus SE, Dassault Aviation SA and Indra Sistemas SA stumbles. The German government is also trying to reassure itself that the involvement of Peter Thiel in a Berlin defense startup poses no security risk. The black market price of Elon Musk’s Starlink kits is soaring in Iran as protesters and others there lean harder on them for communications amid large-scale unrest. The US has threatened to strike the regime there in support of protesters , a goal that has now shifted to preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons with facilities the US said it destroyed last year .
