And just like that, Netflix ( NFLX ) announces that it will not raise its bid for Warner Bros. Discovery ( WBD ) after its board deemed a sweetened, all‑company takeover offer from Paramount Skydance ( PSKY ) as "superior." The streaming company said a higher price for Warner Bros. ( WBD ) was no longer financially attractive. The revised Paramount ( PSKY ) offer was at a purchase price of $31.00 per share in cash, a one-dollar increase from its earlier bid, which valued the company at around $108B. Warner Bros. Discovery ( WBD ) is contractually obligated to pay Netflix a $2.8B breakup fee for terminating the original deal. Shares of Netflix ( NFLX ) closed Thursday’s session 2.3% higher and is 7% higher in premarket action. Warner Bros. Discovery ( WBD ) is down 2% premarket, while Paramount Skydance ( PSKY ) finished the day Thursday up 10% and is 9% higher ahead of market open. Anthropic ( ANTHRO ) on Thursday said that the company “cannot in good conscience” allow the Department of War to use its models in all lawful use cases without limitation, adding that the agency’s threats do not change its position. CEO Dario Amodei wrote in a statement. "Partially autonomous weapons, like those used today in Ukraine, are vital to the defense of democracy. Even fully autonomous weapons (those that take humans out of the loop entirely and automate selecting and engaging targets) may prove critical for our national defense. But today, frontier AI systems are simply not reliable enough to power fully autonomous weapons. We will not knowingly provide ...

Today, I pick former India central bank governor Raghuram Rajan’s thoughts on the AI doomsday scenario for India, and my colleague Nic Querolo looks at the Indian LGBTQ community’s struggle for equal rights. AI SWOT Analysis for India The week started with an apocalyptic forecast for India and its software sector, so it’s only appropriate to end it with some hard, economic realism. “Let’s not get overly wound up in science fiction and think that is the outcome,” Raghuram Rajan, former Reserve Bank of India governor, said about the doomsday scenario laid out in a Citrini Research note that’s since drawn global backlash . Rajan made four key points about India’s AI journey in a conversation with me and Haslinda Amin on Bloomberg Television. I’m paraphrasing them here. Technology adoption is non-linear The fastest users of technology are the people creating it. Much of the change right now is happening in the software industry, which is the frontier. Adoption outside the frontier is much longer. That will not only allow many industries time to adjust but also time to use AI rather than just be displaced by it. IT services will retool There will be disruption in India’s IT services industry but you will also need people to supervise the deployment of AI across enterprises. Presumably, India’s software firms will retool and reskill themselves for the future. Services should be India’s focus We need all the manufacturing we can get. But instead of big semiconductor subsidies, it would be wiser to invest in education, skilling, and R&D. The Indian services story can still pe...

Trump's FTC Takes Up The Fight Against Big Tech Wokeness Authored by Paul Bradford via American Greatness, For years, some of the worst actors in the tech industry were able to do as they pleased without fear of consequence. They could construct monopolies, censor conservatives, and promote wokeness as much as they wanted. But things are beginning to change with the Trump administration. Thanks to the efforts of the White House, the days of Big Tech wantonness are over. These companies now must follow the basic tenets of the free market and stop suppressing views they disagree with. One of the leaders in this effort to correct Big Tech is FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson. His agency recently announced it would ramp up its scrutiny of Microsoft and its allegedly anti-competitive practices. The FTC accuses Microsoft of advancing monopolistic practices in making it very difficult for customers to use the company’s signature products—such as Windows and Office—on rival cloud services. The agency is requesting information from both the tech giant and the companies affected by these malicious policies. Microsoft is one of the worst offenders in the category of Big Tech malpractice. From dubious business practices to close ties to the Chinese Communist Party, Bill Gates’s company sets the bar for how low these giants can go. The China connection is particularly disturbing, as American Greatness has previously covered . Microsoft has allegedly shared information from Windows and Office code with elements tied to Chinese intelligence, allowed its cloud infrastructure to be compromised by Chinese assets, and had several of its initiatives work closely with partners from the Chinese defense industry. Microsoft certainly doesn’t put America first. It also doesn’t respect conservative opinions. The tech giant touts one of the most aggressive records of censorship against the Right. Microsoft was one of the major backers of NewsGuard , a service that promoted itself as a guide to med...
