The surge in artificial intelligence (AI) has ignited an infrastructure supercycle, with a favorable outlook for companies that provide power, cooling, and specialized data center solutions. One company that could be a hidden gem for this growth is Eaton (NYSE: ETN) . The industrial company is a power management and cooling behemoth poised to benefit from the tailwinds of the AI data center supercycle. Artificial intelligence is changing the physical and architectural infrastructure needed for modern data centers . Traditional cloud computing racks consume 10 to 15 kilowatts and use standard air cooling. However, next-generation AI processors consume 80 to 100 kilowatts per rack, necessitating a transition to liquid cooling. Eaton is a legacy electrical component supplier transforming into an integrated infrastructure partner for AI hyperscalers. Continue reading

Top Nike Distributor Sounds Profit Alarm As BNP Says China Remains "Red Flag" Nike has reported declining quarterly sales in China, where demand remains under pressure from mounting macroeconomic headwinds, and the brand continues to lose market share to newer competitors. This weakness has dented the shoemaker's broader turnaround efforts and suggests a much-needed reset in the Chinese market. The stock is down 65% from its 2021 peak and is now trading at 2017 levels, as investors hope management will accelerate a turnaround plan to reverse this devastating multi-year bear market. However, a profit warning from a major distribution channel and commentary from BNP Paribas analyst Laurent Vasilescu only suggest more trouble ahead. On Friday, Pou Sheng, a major distribution and retail channel for Nike in Greater China , warned that its 2025 attributable profit will likely plunge 57% year over year to RMB 211 million, while revenue is expected to decline 7.2% to RMB 17.1 billion. Management blamed " operational deleverage, due to intense discount pressures and a decline in sales, which significantly constrained the Group's profitability ." " The mainland China market encountered subdued consumer confidence and elevated industry inventory levels, leading to aggressive promotional activities and impacting the Group's top-line performance ," the supplier wrote in a profit warning update on Friday. The supplier continued, " Its retail stores experienced a further slowdown in sales momentum, driven by sustained weakness in foot traffic and a mid-teens percentage decline in same-store sales. Lower-tier cities also saw sluggish foot traffic, substantially undermining the performance of its sub-distributor channels ." BNP Paribas analyst Vasilescu said Pou Sheng and Top Sports are the two main operators of Nike's roughly 5,000 mono-branded stores in China and noted that Top Sports also faces mounting structural pressure. He noted this reinforces his long-term bearish view on N...

U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) gestures at the United Center, on Day one of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, Illinois, U.S., August 19, 2024. Mike Segar | Reuters House Democrats this week laid out their plans to counter President Donald Trump 's rhetoric about "nationalizing" this year's elections ahead of the 2026 midterms. The lawmakers convened at their annual policy retreat , where they set their agenda for the year and hone campaign messaging. They met in northern Virginia this week following Trump's escalating calls for voter-ID requirements at the polls and his desire to require presenting documents to register to vote, both changes that would likely disenfranchise voters across the U.S. A pending Supreme Court decision on the Voting Rights Act also looms large, and Trump has said he is considering ways of imposing the changes he wants even if Congress does not pass legislation. "This is a five alarm fire," Rep. Terri Sewell , D-Ala., said at a Congressional Black Caucus press conference at the retreat's close on Friday. "We are going to fight back, and we are going to use every tool in the toolkit." Sewell, who is also a member of the House Administration Committee that has jurisdiction over federal elections, said options include litigating, legislating and mobilizing. But with a minority in both chambers, Democrats are somewhat limited in the run-up to the pivotal 2020 midterm elections that will decide control of the House. As we prepare for the last weekend in February, I took a look at Cinemark Holdings, Inc. ( CNK ) after they released their earnings report last week. Author History I have been following Cinemark for several years but never actually opened a position in it. My first article on it was just as the COVID lockdown was starting; hard as it is to believe now, there were some who wanted to buy into Cinemark in early 2020, convinced that any theater closures would be short. I counseled against that, saying that both the short- and long-term prospects of the exhibitor industry were cloudy at best. That was good advice; Cinemark is actually down since my first article, even as the market has doubled over the same time frame. I did miss a chance to buy in later that year, when COVID was at its peak. Cinemark bottomed at $9 per share and is now trading at $27. A missed opportunity, perhaps, but before vaccines became available, it wasn’t entirely clear when life would be returning to normal. Altogether, I am not too dissatisfied with how I’ve played—or not played, really—this stock. Early Box Office Performance While there are individual operational characteristics that vary between the three major players in the theater space—Cinemark, AMC ( AMC ), and Regal—hands down the single biggest factor in profitability is simply the health of the overall box office. The picture here is mixed, much as it has been for years since COVID. While January represented a substantial outperformance of the year prior , that owed almost entirely to a single film, Disney’s third Avatar entry, which two months into the year is still the only film to crack $100 million domestic - despite the fact that Avatar actually opened in 2025. Disney’s Avatar franchise is always somewhat of a slant factor in the box office analysis. Because Avatar films always launch in December, they are spread across two years; the year it launches is back-end weighted, and the following year, which catches the tail end of t...

Blackstone Inc. is launching a publicly traded acquisition company that will snap up data centers, giving millions of mom-and-pop investors a chance to bet on the artificial intelligence boom. The alternative investment giant is approaching sovereign wealth funds and other institutions for the first checks, aiming to eventually raise tens of billions of dollars from a broader group of investors, according to people familiar with the matter, who asked not to be identified discussing confidential information. The new vehicle will encapsulate two of the $1.3 trillion alternative asset manager’s biggest initiatives — its bid to become the world’s biggest investor in AI infrastructure and its push beyond mainstay pensions and endowments to reach everyday investors. It also thrusts Blackstone into the center of a debate on the staying power of the data-center building boom and the consequences of exposing individuals to the red-hot sector. Some investors worry that technology could move on, rendering obsolete the colossal AI training facilities far from major metropolitan areas. Blackstone declined to comment. The new company would invest in already-built and leased data centers rather than more-speculative raw land or development projects, the people said. Blackstone is still hammering out the structure of the publicly listed entity, which would have to secure regulatory approval. The vehicle, expected to debut as soon as this year, would compete for capital with data center real estate investment trusts Digital Realty Trust Inc. and Equinix Inc. , whose shares have advanced on the growing demand for the power, properties and hardware needed to run complex computing processes. Historic Pace Wall Street and big tech firms are key forces in the splurge on data center infrastructure, which will require as much as $3 trillion of investment by 2030, according to JLL. Blackstone has emerged as one of the most bullish voices. QTS, the data center giant Blackstone bankrolls, has...

JHVEPhoto/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Honeywell ( HON ) +1.6% in Friday's trading as Wolfe Research upgraded shares to Outperform from Peer Perform with a $293 price target, raised from $262, pointing to the completion of the aerospace business separation set for early July as a potential upside catalyst in light of premium valuation multiples for aerospace comps, and expectations for post-spin outperformance consistent with precedent transactions. "It is notable that Honeywell is now more consistently delivering on its financial commitments, with stronger organic sales and order KPIs relative to peers... an important step in re-establishing credibility for the new leadership team," analyst Nigel Coe wrote. Honeywell ( HON ) seems to be closing in on a monetization of its Quantinuum investment, which Coe said could be worth $12/share of equity value, with a credible path to realizing a substantial portion of its sizable $4.4B pension surplus, which could add another $7/share.
