Socialism Is Targeting The Foundations That Made America Great Authored by Victor Davis Hanson via The Epoch Times , This is a lightly edited transcript of a July 6 segment of the Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words podcast. One question that came up constantly during this 250th anniversary Fourth of July celebration was whether we were gonna make it another 250 years, 500 years. We could be longer than the Roman Republic. Longer than the Roman Empire. Democratic Socialists of America march in downtown Berkeley, Calif., on Aug. 5, 2018. Amy Osborne/AFP/Getty Images And to answer that question, you have to know what allowed us to get this far, and for those who don't like us, what they would like to do to stop us. And it turns out that the reasons that we survived 250 years and the reasons that we might survive another 250 years are precisely the areas where our critics would wish us to fail, or who are actively trying to see that we fail. Take the first one, our Constitution. What's brilliant about the American Constitution is its federalism. It outlines all the duties and prerogatives of the federal government, and then it says anything that is not relegated to the federal government is up to the states, and that's the majority of human experiences. It doesn't mean the states can fight one another or pass laws against one another or pass laws against the federal government. The federal government has ultimate authority, but this federalism means that if California wants to tax 13.3 percent and Florida wants to tax 0 percent, then maybe 300,000 people a year will go to Florida and still enjoy the American experience, and vice versa. You can go to any state in the country and what it really means is you're having 50 separate experiments. You're all united by the federal government and the checks and balances of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. But you have 50 different interpretations of them based on local and regional concerns, and that gives Americans a ...

The next leg of the artificial intelligence boom may not be built entirely on Earth. SpaceX has paved the way for another potential avenue in space technology: compute capacity in orbit. Orbital computing might even be more credible than AI data centers built on Earth, based on four structural trends, Morgan Stanley researchers found, citing tighter constraints on land-based AI data centers, falling launch costs, advances in optical satellite networking and the rising volume of data generated in space. Orbital compute is a virtual data center with server racks in space supported by solar arrays, cooling radiators and laser-linked satellite networks. Such platforms might be less costly, ease constraints on earth, reduce environmental impacts and enable new capabilities for security-critical applications. Compute refers to the processing power, energy and infrastructure needed for AI models. Morgan Stanley doesn't expect orbital computing to replace terrestrial hyperscale data centers this cycle, but notes that the more realistic near-term opportunity is orbital edge-AI, where satellites process imagery, sensor data and inference workloads in orbit before sending outputs back to Earth, said analyst Shawn Kim. Science fiction "Investing in space technology and exploration now represents an opportunity to participate at the forefront of frontier technology and defense innovation," according to Jonathan Siegmann, research managing director at Stifel Financial. Commercial space profitability is no longer merely science fiction, as national security, civil and commercial space programs gain momentum, Siegmann said. The reusable launch model at SpaceX , for example, helped lower costs and moved the industry toward more scalable networks, while the company's Starlink, a low-Earth-orbit broadband network, was a proof point for a commercial space business model and the key to SpaceX's valuation in its recent initial public offering, the analyst said. . Philip Thurston/E+ via Getty Images Since my last Broadcom Inc. ( AVGO ) analysis , the stock has lost nearly 7% in price. This moderate cooling-off period does increase the investment's attractiveness somewhat, but I would still not call this a shrewd entry point for aggressive buying. I favor a staged entry for AVGO right now. Broadcom as a business is excelling, and I don't expect this to change long-term, but the market around it could be at a dangerous late-cycle top, in my opinion. Entry points in the light of macro risk matter here. Earnings delivery could carry the market higher here. To be fair, the S&P 500 ( SP500 ) forward P/E is only 20.4x here, which is only slightly above the five-year average of 19.9x and the 10-year average of 19x. When you look back at history, the valuation becomes more extreme, but I think there is a structural premium here from frontier AI in the U.S. that is not going to just disappear. Analysts are expecting 24.1% CY2026 earnings growth, so maybe the bull market stays durable through 2027. I see no reason why it has to collapse; perhaps a cooling-off period or modest 2022-style reset could occur in 2027. I prefer to just buy businesses at good or great value and let cycles do their thing while holding cash to deploy at deep value and some macro puts for portfolio insurance. I play to survive, thrive, and sleep well at night. My portfolio is a fortress. Broadcom Isn't Going Away AI exposure is nothing like a narrative trend. The valuations may be somewhat overextended based on terminal growth rate expectations, but the actual technology is embedded in contracted, mission-critical infrastructure. In Q2 FY26 , Broadcom generated $10.262B of free cash flow. This is a business with remarkable growth (Q3 AI semiconductor revenue guided to grow more than 200%) with strong profitability and balance sheet flexibility. Broadcom's AI durability is particularly strong with heavy contractual, not speculative, agreements. Management disclose...
