We hear a lot nowadays about the K-shaped economy. In this model, those in higher income brackets are doing well, while lower income folks are struggling. The financial markets pay attention to things like GDP growth and corporate earnings, both of which are looking healthy at the moment and helping push the S&P 500 (^GSPC 0.94%) toward new highs. The details, however, paint a different picture. Overall personal spending has remained resilient throughout this current economic cycle. Over the past several months, it has averaged a 0.4% month-over-month gain -- enough to keep the economic engine churning. But a lot of that spending appears to be built on the back of credit. And the data suggests that consumers are having a really hard time keeping their heads above water right now. Severe credit card delinquency rates are nearing record highs In Q4 2025, the percentage of credit card debt that was at least 90 days delinquent climbed to 12.7%. That's the highest level since 2011 Q1, when it was just over 13%. It's important to note that the current delinquency rate on credit card debt isn't that far off from its financial crisis peak in 2010. Given the current trajectory of that trend line (it's gone from around 8% to over 12% in just three years), it's not unreasonable to think that the credit market could be around 12 months away from a new all-time high. Since then the stock is up 18% compared to the S&P 500's up 22%. In this article I am upgrading the stock to a strong buy on the back of good 2025 annual results , announced on 24 February 2026, and the company's demonstration that it is executing on its important projects with discipline. The 2025 results were led by Acting CEO Liz Westcott, who was previously Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Australia of the group. This follows the recent departure of Meg O’Neill to join the British supermajor BP plc ( BP ) as its new CEO. In Q4, EPS (diluted) was -$0.56, missing consensus estimates by 13.48% . For FY2025, EPS (diluted) was -$1.39, which also fell short of the consensus by 5.77%. What concerns me is the fact that CoreWeave is expanding through debt. The result is exploding interest expenses, which could become an existential risk if not executed properly. Indeed, some investors might agree, and the stock has dropped about 25% since earnings. Of course, there are reasons to be optimistic about the company’s potential as well, specifically, the backlog, which suggests ARR could triple in the near future- something I don’t believe the market has fully priced in. Spoiler: With everything outlined in this article, my Buy rating for CoreWeave stays in place. What happened in the fourth quarter and full year 2025? Revenue for the quarter rose 110% to around $1.57 billion. For the full year, revenue rose 168% to around $5.13 billion compared to the same period last year. CEO Mike Intrator even said it’s the fastest cloud company to have ever reached such levels: CoreWeave is the fastest cloud in history to reach $5 billion in annual revenue. matejmo/iStock via Getty Images Stocks plummeted at yesterday’s open in a delayed reaction to the continuing turmoil in the Middle East, as bombing in the region intensified. Oil prices hit new highs with a barrel of crude surpassing $77. Precious metals and cryptocurrencies remained under pressure, as the dollar saw its largest two-day rally in more than a year. Treasury yields remained elevated over fears that inflation may reignite and force delays in further easing by the Federal Reserve. Expect the volatility to continue in the near term. Finviz President Trump managed to mitigate some market damage by assuring that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open with insurance and escort services provided by the government to shipping companies. The shipping companies were less optimistic. Still, that narrowed what had been a 2.5% plunge in the S&P 500 to less than 1% by the close. It also tempered the rise in oil prices, which remained near $75 after the close. This conflict is red meat for relentless bears who have been anticipating another recessionary bear market, but they continue to ignore the fact that the economic expansion, while uneven, remains on track. More importantly, corporate profits are on the rise. Bloomberg From an investment perspective, our primary concern should be oil prices, but the recent surge is far from detrimental levels. Historically, it takes a doubling in price over a 12-month period to run the risk of causing a recession. That would be over $100/barrel from the low of $57. Yet in 2022, oil prices doubled due to the war in Russia and Ukraine, but it did not cause a recession. The current level is not of any major consequence. Trading Economics The main reason for the market’s resilience is that the earnings engine continues to fire on all cylinders. While analysts have lowered estimates for the S&P 500 by 1.5% for the current quarter, that is less than the 10-year average of 2.4%. This is very normal. Furthermore, the consensus raised es...
