US President Donald Trump on Saturday urged Latin American nations to use military power against the “cancer” of drug cartels and offered to support them with US missile strikes targeting narco kingpins. Trump, currently waging a war with Iran, laid out a muscular position for advancing Washington’s interests in the western hemisphere, pronouncing that communist-led Cuba was “in its last moments of life” and advocating tough action by allies against organised crime blighting the region. He formally launched a 17-nation “counter cartel” coalition which the White House described as a pledge from governments in the region to use “hard power” against security threats. Advertisement “We’re working with you to do whatever we have to do. We’ll use missiles. You want us to use a missile? They’re extremely accurate,” Trump told a dozen right-wing leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean at his Doral golf club near Miami. “‘Piu’, right into the living room,” he said, suggesting the sound of a missile in flight. “That’s the end of that cartel person. But we’ll do whatever you need.” US President Donald Trump reacts after signing the “Commitment to countering cartel criminal activity” document during the “Shield of the Americas” summit with Latin American leaders in Miami, Florida, on Saturday. It now trades around $196 a share. Despite the recent drop, the 2025 surge has some investors wondering if AMD stock could reach $300 per share. Iran Foreign Minister Claims U.S. Attacked Water Desalination Plant First we warned that data centers would become drone targets, and then IRGC strikes hit Amazon AWS and Microsoft-linked AI infrastructure across the Gulf. Next, we flagged water desalination plants as another target. Now, with reports that a desalination facility in Iran has been struck, it is increasingly clear that this conflict has no boundaries when it comes to civilian infrastructure. On Saturday morning, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi took to X and claimed that U.S. military forces had "committed a blatant and desperate crime by attacking a freshwater desalination plant on Qeshm Island." "Water supply in 30 villages has been impacted. Attacking Iran's infrastructure is a dangerous move with grave consequences. The U.S. set this precedent, not Iran," Araghchi said. The U.S. set this precedent, not Iran. — Seyed Abbas Araghchi (@araghchi) March 7, 2026 Shortly after Araghchi's post, a Community Note attached to his tweet read, "There is currently no independent confirmation from international media or monitoring organizations that the U.S. attacked a freshwater desalination plant on Qeshm Island." Whether confirmed or not, the worst-case scenario for the conflict is one in which freshwater desalination plants are targeted, either intentionally or by accident. This risk was first raised earlier last week by Bloomberg commodities analyst Javier Blas, who said, "A lot of attention about 'soft targets' like hotels and airports. And about oil/gas facilities. But please keep an eye on what may prove the most strategic asset for Persian Gulf countries: water desalination plants." Polymarket founder and CEO Shayne Coplan said the prediction market industry’s war-related contracts face growing risks and acknowledged that rising visibility brings “more money, more problems” — a blunt concession from one of the sector’s most prominent figures that its flagship product threatens to become a political liability. Speaking at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference 2026 , Coplan argued prediction markets still serve a genuine informational function but described Iran as “complicated” and said the fog of war breeds misunderstanding. “There’s still a lot of resistance to innovation that kind of also seems jarring to begin with,” Coplan said on Saturday. But “that’s what makes it innovative and disruptive.” His remarks reflect a broader defense by the prediction market industry against criticism over insider trading risks and the ethics of wagering on conflict. Bettors placed $425.4 million in wagers on geopolitical questions on Polymarket in the week ending March 1, up from $163.9 million the week before, according to user-compiled data on Dune Analytics . US regulations are understood to prohibit financial contracts tied to war and most prediction markets avoid them. But Polymarket’s main exchange operates offshore. That’s an undeniable value proposition that did not exist before.” Read More: The Man Betting on Insider Trading as Prediction Markets Boom Coplan also said that insider trading dynamics in prediction markets are fundamentally different from equities, where, for example, there are quar...

The Arab monarchy did not say how many barrels per day it has cut, but described the output reduction as a precautionary measure that will be "reviewed as the situation develops." Kuwait is the fifth-largest oil producer in OPEC. It produced about 2.6 million barrels per day in January. The state-owned Kuwait Petroleum Corporation said it "remains fully prepared to restore production levels once conditions allow." Oil prices surged about 35% this week as the Iran war triggered a major disruption of global energy supplies. Tankers have stopped transiting the critical Strait of Hormuz because ship owners fear their vessels will be attacked by Iran. Gulf Arab oil producers like Kuwait export their barrels through the Strait. The narrow waterway is the only way to enter or exit the Persian Gulf. About 20% of global oil consumption is exported through the Strait. Oil barrels are piling up in the Middle East with nowhere to go because the tankers are not moving. Gulf Arab countries are forced to lower production when they run out of space to store barrels. Iraq has already cut 1.5 million barrels per day as it runs out of storage space, Iraqi officials told Reuters on Tuesday. "The market is shifting from pricing pure geopolitical risk to grappling with tangible operational disruption," Natasha Kaneva, head of global commodities research at JPMorgan, told clients in a Friday note. The Gulf Arab countries will exhaust storage capacity and shut down oil production if the U.S.-Iran war lasts more than three weeks, Kaneva said in a note last Sunday. This would spike global benchmark Brent oil prices above $100 per barrel, she said. JPM...

Jonathan Kitchen The U.S. has drafted strict new rules for civilian artificial intelligence contracts amid a dispute between the Trump administration and Anthropic ( ANTHRO ) over how the tech start-up’s AI models are used for government purposes, The Financial Times reported. According to draft guidelines accessed by the FT, the new rules will require AI companies that want to do business with the federal government to permit “any lawful” use of their models. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth designated Anthropic ( ANTHRO ) a “Supply-Chain Risk to National Security.” The General Services Administration, which assists the government in purchasing software, has drawn up new guidance over the past few months as part of a federal effort to enhance the procurement of AI services. The guidance says that “the contractor must not intentionally encode partisan or ideological judgments into the AI systems data outputs.” It requires companies to provide “a neutral, non-partisan tool that does not manipulate responses in favor of ideological dogmas such as diversity, equity, and inclusion." The GSA will be “soliciting further comments” from the industry before finalizing the new guidance, the person said, adding that it is similar to the guideline the Pentagon is drawing up to target military contracts. GSA’s subsidiary, the Federal Acquisition Service, has inked agreements with leading AI companies, including Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed OpenAI ( OPENAI ), Meta ( META ), xAI ( XAI ), and Google ( GOOG ). The report comes as Anthropic ( ANTHRO ), a generative AI company backed by Amazon ( AMZN ) and Alphabet's ( GOOG ) ( GOOGL ) Google, is trying to resolve a standoff that led the Trump administration to label it as a “ Supply-Chain Risk” last week. BYD Co. Ltd. has applied for a permit to import its vehicles in Canada following the reduced tariff agreement between Ottawa and Beijing. BYD Vehicles At 6.1% Tariff On Thursday, BYD had registered its factories in Shenzhen and Xi'an as potential exporters to Canada, filings from the automaker to Canada's transport regulator, Transport Canada, showed. Canada had earlier announced that it would let over 49,000 EVs into the country from China for a reduced tariff rate of 6.1% as part of the agreement, with the number potentially expanding to over 70,000 in the future, amid criticism from President Donald Trump and Transport Secretary Sean Duffy. Don't Miss: What This Could Mean For Tesla In Canada The news comes as Tesla could benefit from selling its EVs in Canada, as the Mark Carney-led government scrapped the EV mandate in favor of revised fuel economy standards. The government has also brought back its iZEV incentive program with rebates up to CA$5,000 (approximately $3,650) on a CA$50,000 (approximately $36,500) vehicle. Tesla, which sells its vehicles via 39 outlets in the country imported from its Shanghai facility, could benefit from the lower tariffs despite being a U.S.-based company.
