FabrikaCr/iStock via Getty Images The fund posted a return of 4.37% (Class I shares) for the fourth quarter of 2025. The fund's outperformance of its benchmark was led by macro-related measures, particularly those identifying industry-level and style rotation trends. Sentiment insights, especially those following analyst trends and short-selling activity, supported performance, as did traditional quality-focused fundamental measures. From a sector-positioning perspective, the fund remained largely neutral. However, there were slight overweight positions in the industrials and communication services sectors, and underweight holdings in the utilities and health care sectors. Contributors Macro-related measures were the strongest contributors. A standout was an insight using industry-level wage data to anticipate margin trends, which helped correctly position the fund in the health care sector. Measures tracking macroeconomic data to identify equity style rotation led to profitable exposure in the industrials sector. Elsewhere, sentiment insights tracking short-selling activity aligned well with market reversals and benefited from positioning in the financials sector. Fundamental quality measures that penalized volatile companies added to returns as they reinforced strong stock selection in the pharmaceuticals industry, in the health care sector, and the machinery industry, in the industrials sector. Detractors Some measures detracted during the quarter. Thematic insights attempting to anticipate deregulation trends were less effective, particularly among select stocks in the communication services sector. In the fundamental space, non-traditional quality measures focused on founder-led firms and predictive sales growth struggled, undermining positions in the consumer discretionary and information technology sectors. Retail-driven sentiment measures, including those tracking investor behavior on brokerage platforms, detracted as they failed to capture broader market sh...

Two oil tankers have been attacked in Iraqi waters, according to the country’s state oil marketer, prompting the nation’s oil terminals to suspend operations. Iraq’s State Organization for Marketing of Oil, or SOMO, named the tankers as Marshall Islands-flagged Safesea Vishnu and Malta-flagged Zefyros . Safesea Vishnu was chartered by a company that’s contracted with SOMO, according to a statement posted on Facebook. Zefyros carried condensate produced by Basrah Gas Co. It was scheduled to head to Khor Al-Zubair Port in Iraq on March 12 to load an additional 30,000-ton shipment of plastics feedstock naphtha. “This event negatively impacts Iraq’s security and economy, and poses a threat to the safety of maritime navigation and oil activities in Iraqi territorial waters,” the SOMO statement said. The news prompted the country to stop operations at its oil terminals, according to comments from the director of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, carried by state-run Iraqi News agency. Commercial ports are unaffected, the report said.

Donald Trump has continued his contradictory messaging over the Iran war, telling a rally in Kentucky that the war is “won” but “we don’t want to leave early, do we?”. With Trump and his fellow Republicans under pressure, according to polls, due to a stuttering economy, immigration crackdowns and the Iran conflict, the president noted this year’s midterm elections “are going to be very, very important”. His comments came as US energy secretary Chris Wright said the US will release 172m barrels of oil from its strategic petroleum reserve in a bid to reduce oil prices that have soared due to supply shocks from the US-Israeli war with Iran. Wright said the release is part of a broader release of 400m barrels of oil agreed to by the 32-country International Energy Agency earlier in the day. He said the release will begin next week and will take approximately 120 days to deliver. But oil prices continued to rise amid strikes on tankers in the Middle East, as Americans feel the pinch. Gas prices have surged from a nationwide average of $2.94 per gallon a month ago to $3.58 as of Wednesday, according to AAA. Catch up with the day’s biggest stories here: Catching up?
