00:00 Speaker A Microsoft is still down like 15% year to date. Um which is so interesting to me just given the size, given the cadence with which it keeps coming out with products, right? 00:00 Speaker A Microsoft is still down like 15% year to date. Um which is so interesting to me just given the size, given the cadence with which it keeps coming out with products, right? And so, you know, do you think that the same calculus goes for Microsoft um as goes for any of these in terms of those those things it needs to achieve to convince the market? Or is it is it just caught up in it? Like, what needs to happen for Microsoft to come back? 00:41 Speaker B Yeah, look, I think I think the short answer is Azure growth needs to pick up, right? Um that's the short answer, but I think the bigger thing is like, look, to me the mark the market is really under appreciating Microsoft's ability to innovate, right? Um every company has to go through that innovation life cycle before monetizing AI. I just think Microsoft is ahead of everyone else and and that goes back to the fact that they invested in OpenAI back in 2019. They've been really putting the investment to try to figure this out. 01:12 Speaker B And and and look, I mean, in spite of everyone writing off Office co-pilot, it it's a big business today. Uh get up co-pilot continues to do well in spite of competition from OpenAI Codex, cloud code cursor. And then you saw um, you know, two days ago, Microsoft just came out with the long awaited E7 bundle, uh where they're now embedding AI throughout the entire office suite and that's coming at, you know, about a 50% uh uplift, actually more than that, uh from where uh the the original E5 was uh uh being priced. 01:46 Speaker B And it comes with a lot of capabilities including now Microsoft co-pilot co-work. And so I'm really excited to see that. I'm actually a little surprised the stock hasn't moved on that. But that could totally be a needle mover for Microsoft and show evidence that this isn't just a an Azure Open AI story, which is what I think the market is treating it as, but there really is their ability to monetize AI throughout the stack at infrastructu...

Meta Platforms Inc. will pay as much as $27 billion over the next five years for access to cutting-edge artificial intelligence infrastructure from cloud provider Nebius Group NV as it spends aggressively to compete with the industry’s top frontier models. Nebius, a so-called neocloud that operates data centers and has a strategic partnership with Nvidia Corp. , will provide Meta $12 billion of dedicated capacity starting in early 2027, the Dutch company said in a statement Monday. Meta also committed to buy as much as $15 billion in additional capacity that the cloud provider is building for third-party customers. The outlay represents one of the biggest single contracts that Meta has signed, underscoring the Instagram and Facebook owner’s push for more computing capacity to power the development of AI products. Last year, it signed a separate $3 billion deal with Nebius. Meta and some of its largest tech peers are expected to spend some $650 billion in 2026 to build data centers and purchase other infrastructure in anticipation of an AI services explosion in the coming years. Meta has made AI the company’s top priority, and is investing heavily to compete with rivals like OpenAI and Google. It has also inked multi-billion dollar partnership agreements with Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. for AI infrastructure since the start of the year. And Meta is developing its own chips in-house. Read More: Nvidia Invests $2 Billion in Nebius for New Data Center Deal Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said last year that Meta will spend $600 billion on US infrastructure projects by 2028 . To do so, Meta has leaned on profits generated by its advertising business, but has also raised outside financing to fund infrastructure projects. The company is developing its own high-end models and has built several AI products, including a chatbot, that is available inside its various apps. A spokesperson for Meta confirmed the Nebius deal, and said its strategy of diversifyin...

Palantier, um, which has come back a little bit, but is still down, um, from its highs. Um, you know, and of course, there is still this big debate ongoing about which software stocks are going to be disrupted. I don't often hear Microsoft on on that list, but of course it it has sold off with the rest of software. 00:27 Nancy Yeah. Well, and we added to service now, which is a harder one to swallow because it's been popping around. though it did it did have a nice move up. Here's the way I see it. Uh, I think I've talked to you about Adobe. We exited the stock about a year and a half ago. might have been a little bit longer. Uh and one of the things that stuck out to me is that you had a stock that had underperformed the S&P, uh not not just underperformed, but had a negative cumulative return of about 30% over the last five years. But you had a CEO who many celebrate, and I think he did a lot of things right in the previous 10 years, uh but he got paid $220 million during that period. and the company missed the pivot. Think Intel, think Xerox. And so I I think that is the kind of company you want to stay away from. I would not buy the dip. Uh that's not to say it won't get a dead cat bounce rally at some point. Um but I think names like that, see uh CRM Salesforce are names we've we've shifted away from and focused on the integrated players, the ones that we think are going to succeed over the long-term and even see margin expansion as well as the cybersecurity names. We also added to CrowdStrike during the during the sell-off. 01:54 Speaker A Oh, interesting. And I, you know, you've been a broadcom fan from way back, Nancy, on the on the supplier side, right? The companies that are a sort of infrastructure for AI here. Um, and, you know, the it has been pretty interesting within even th...

Self-appointed patriots are up in arms about a plan to replace historical figures with cute wildlife. The Bank of England shouldn’t duck this debate One day soon we may finally have an answer to a question that has stumped philosophers through the ages: which is worth more, a beaver or a robin? We might be able to place actual monetary values on barn owls or stags, too. Any one of them could even be considered worth more than Winston Churchill. That’s because the Bank of England has announced that the next update of British banknotes will end the half-century tradition of designs featuring historic notables. (Charles III, whose historic notability we won’t be clear on for some time, will remain.) In their place will come representations of patriotic British wildlife, shortlisted by a panel of experts, then chosen by public vote. In a transparent attempt to avoid national humiliation of a “ Goaty McGoatface ” variety, the Bank’s governor will get the final say. Astronomers have identified a planet composed of molten lava, suggesting the existence of an entirely new category of liquid planet. The distant world, known as L98-59d, is about 1.6 times the size of Earth and orbits a small red star 35 light years away. Astronomers initially thought the planet might harbour a deep ocean of liquid water, but the latest analysis suggests that it could be fundamentally different to anything seen before. “The whole thing really is in a mushy, molten state,” said Dr Harrison Nicholls, an astrophysicist at the University of Oxford. “It’s like molasses. It’s likely that this planet’s core would also be molten.” Surface temperatures would reach a blazing 1,900C (3,500F), large waves are likely to roll over the magma ocean caused by the tidal forces of neighbouring planets, and there would be a pervasive stench of rotten egg thanks to an atmosphere rich in hydrogen sulphide. The overall conditions are not viewed as favourable for hosting life. “If there are aliens out there that could live in lava that would be amazing, but I don’t think it’s likely that it’s habitable,” said Nicholls. “It’s nice to revel in the alienness of the planet itself.” Planets beyond our solar system are too distant to photograph or reach with robotic spacecraft, and until recently astronomers could only make crude estimates of the size, density and temperature of these distant worlds by tracking their silhouettes as they passed in front of their host star. The James Webb space telescope, however, is powerful enough to measure starlight filtered through the planet’s atmosphere to give a read-out of which gases are present. Previously, such observations revealed that L98-59d has a sulphur-rich atmosphere that appeared at odds with it being either a rocky or water world – the two conventional categories that a planet of its size would typically fall into. Neither would be capable of maintaining a sulphur atmosphere for the nearly 5bn years the planet has been in exi...

Apologies won’t help the survivors still living with the echoes of abuse. But wealthy people have the resources to make a real impact Years before there was a call for transparency with the Epstein files, I spent months reading the documents. Not the headlines – the documents: the emails, the financial records, the human suffering, and the internal communications that mapped how one man’s wealth and power built an ecosystem of exploitation that operated for decades. As a sex trafficking expert for more than 15 years, I’ve witnessed many men who abused their power and the system, but rarely have I seen wealth weaponized so effectively and for so long. I read the files because I served as the expert witness for the US Virgin Islands in its litigation against JPMorgan Chase, which alleged that the bank maintained a financial relationship with Epstein despite evidence of his sex trafficking. The case ended in a 2023 settlement ; the bank did not admit wrongdoing. I reviewed the messages from men with power and wealth in Epstein’s orbit. I saw what they said, what they didn’t say, and what they saw and didn’t see. Continue reading...

Pope Leo came top with 42%. Donald Trump was just behind with 41%. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) scored 38% and TV host Stephen Colbert 35%. Trailing behind all of them was the Democratic party, viewed positively by just 30% of voters in a recent NBC News poll. About 52% view the Democrats negatively. Among the reasons for the distrust, argues Swing Left, a national grassroots organisation, is a broken voter contact model in which Democrats are too transactional, too last minute and too dependent on outdated technology. It is aiming to fix the problem ahead of November’s midterm elections. Last weekend Swing Left ran a voter-listening canvass in Kingston, New York, with congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and congressman Pat Ryan joining more than a hundred volunteers. Part of Swing Left’s Ground Truth campaign, these initiatives aim to overhaul the Democrats’ ground game with “deep canvassing”. Rather than parachuting into neighbourhoods just weeks before an election to chase reliable supporters, volunteers are hitting the streets well ahead of the midterms and knocking on every door. Volunteers are encouraged to speak to anyone they encounter instead of rigidly sticking to a targeted list and specific communities. And rather than forcing voters’ opinions into rigid categories, canvassers hold old-fashioned, open-ended conversations that are then analysed with the help of AI. The responses in Kingston offered a snapshot of voters’ thinking. A Democratic-leaning resident who had recently moved back from Rhode Island spoke with canvassers through her Ring camera while she was out at a sushi restaurant. She said she “tries not to think about politics” but still took the time to talk about her concerns. A Republican-leaning resident and mother of young children told canvassers she feels the country is too divided and that Democrats and Republicans should work together more. Another resident said voters often feel as if they are choosing between the “less...

US citizens living in the Middle East say they’re “angry” at the US state department, criticising the Trump administration for having no “backup plan” to help them leave the region in the hours and days after the start of the US-Israel war on Iran. One person, whose family voted for Trump for his anti-war stance, said she felt “betrayed” and what she perceived as the treatment of US citizens as “an afterthought”. A state department official said: “Through the department’s Task Force, we have directly provided security guidance and travel assistance to about 32,000 impacted Americans. Most Americans who have requested assistance have declined seats when offered, opting to remain in [the] country or take commercial flight options.” Here are some of the people who contacted us to share their experiences. ‘We were left on our own to figure things out’ Dylan, 31, a US citizen who was teaching in Bahrain, says he’s “angry” at the US government’s lack of support for its citizens in the Middle East. On the morning of the US-Israel attack on Iran on 28 February, he says he had a sense something was about to happen. “I was on edge and constantly checking the news,” he says. At around 11am, I heard a loud bang that shook the house. I thought it was an elevator crashing. Then I heard four more. I looked out and saw smoke rising from the naval base in Juffair. After I saw the smoke, it was like I was staring into the face of death, and I knew I needed to do something immediately.” In his first year of a two-year teaching contract, Dylan packed a few things and for the next few days took shelter in a school. He says he then called the embassy and was met with a recording saying the phone message box “was full”. He also called the US state department, but couldn’t get through. He then asked his family to try calling them the next day, and they were not able to get in touch with anybody. Dylan also tried again, to no avail. In the US, his parents were really anxious and managed ...

It originated from ancient spiritual beliefs in southwestern China, where people lacking access to medicine would beat bronze drums to pray for healing. More on Dividend Growth Investing: My Income Portfolio - The Land Of Toys We will see how the market develops in light of the events in the Middle East, but it may be useful to take a snapshot of the current situation in terms of the price/NAV ratio of the securities in my portfolio. I will only disregard the ETFs and ETNs in the Giotto Portfolio, which are quoted at NAV and will therefore not be taken into consideration in this brief analysis of the price/NAV ratio. BDC Tailwinds Are Building, Not Breaking I would suggest that investors capitalize on these underlying tailwinds (opportunities) by simply remaining focused on high-quality BDCs, which are not only more protected than other peers from potential credit risk headwinds but also carry notable dry powder to scoop up more lucrative investment opportunities. The #1 Thing I Wish I Knew Before Becoming A Dividend Investor The market may not be perfectly efficient at all times, but it is not completely irrational either, and when it prices a stock at such a yield, it is its way of saying that the stock is facing severe risks t...

Federal Reserve officials are widely expected to hold interest rates steady at their meeting this week, as attention shifts to how they may respond if fallout from war in the Middle East pulls their policy goals in opposite directions. The US-Israeli assault on Iran has injected significant uncertainty into the economic outlook, with a sharp rise in oil prices threatening to put pressure on inflation and dampen economic growth. At the same time, lackluster employment data are forcing policymakers to reconsider their assessment of the labor market’s stability. The combination means Chair Jerome Powell and his colleagues on the Federal Open Market Committee could soon find that their aims call for diverging policy responses — lower rates to support the labor market or keep rates elevated to contain inflation. For now, officials are likely to signal they remain in a wait-and-see mode as they take the rapidly evolving conflict in the Middle East on board, said Aditya Bhave , senior US economist at BofA Securities. “They don’t want to jump to conclusions. This is a supply shock,” Bhave said of the jump in oil prices. “Supply shocks increase the risk to both sides of their mandate.” Alongside the economic complexities, a tense and consequential political drama hangs over this week’s Fed gathering. A federal judge’s move last week to quash Department of Justice subpoenas targeted at Powell represented a win for the central bank. But US Attorney Jeanine Pirro vowed to press on with efforts to investigate the Fed and its chief. That could disrupt a leadership transition at the central bank expected in May. War and Oil After cutting interest rates three times in late 2025, Fed officials left their policy rate unchanged in a range of 3.5% to 3.75% in January. With the labor market at the time showing signs of steadying, policymakers broadly indicated they were comfortable keeping rates on hold, possibly for an extended time, to keep downward pressure on inflation that’s been a...

(NYSE: TSQ) (“Townsquare”, the “Company,” “we,” “us” or “our”) announced today its financial results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2025. “I am pleased to share that Townsquare’s fourth quarter and year end results met our previously issued net revenue and Adjusted EBITDA guidance, reflecting our team’s hard work in the current environment. We are proud that the execution of our Digital First Local Media strategy allowed us to deliver excellent results for our clients, while also outperforming competitors and gaining market share,” commented Bill Wilson, Chief Executive Officer of Townsquare Media, Inc. “In 2025, net revenue decreased -2.8% year-over-year excluding political, and -5.2% in total, and Adjusted EBITDA decreased -3.0% year-over-year excluding political, and -12.2% in total. Importantly, due to our strong expense management, Adjusted EBITDA margins excluding political were constant year-over-year, despite revenue declines. In addition, our full year net loss improved by $1.2 million year-over-year, to a net loss of $9.8 million.” Mr. Wilson continued, “In 2025, Townsquare’s Digital business, which now represents 55% of the Company’s total net revenue and 56% of our total Segment Profit, was buoyed by the consistent strength of our differentiated programmatic digital advertising offering, including the success of our Media Partnership division (which we’re proud to announce has expanded from six to eleven partners in 2026), and the direct sales of our local owned and operated digital properties. Both of these digital revenue streams increased by +9% year-over-year in 2025, offsetting the significant short-term headwinds of declining search engine referral traffic we experienced in 2025, and leading to overall 2025 D...

One of the first major crashes I experienced as a chronically ill person happened on an unusually sunny January day in New York City. It was 2023, and I was riding my bike with a friend, flying high from the exercise. We’d covered just over 40 miles on mostly flat ground, a longish ride, but not out of ordinary for me. And that’s when it started. About 15 minutes from my apartment, my body gave out. At first it was just my head — it grew hot, and within minutes, my brain felt like it was on fire. Pretty soon, the rest of my insides were burning up, too. As the skin on my arms and face turned red, and my limbs grew heavy, I felt bewildered. I was fine just minutes ago, I thought. I was tired, but the ride didn’t feel that hard. “I think I need to stop,” I told my friend. I couldn’t think. I drank some water, ate a snack, and tried to compose myself alongside the bike path on Eastern Parkway. I don’t know how long we stayed there, but my condition didn’t really improve. Eventually we got back on our bikes and pedaled, much slower than before, to my apartment. I turned 34 that day, and what I remember most is the time I spent in bed after the ride, while my immune system went berserk. My spouse was in Vancouver, Washington, visiting family for the holidays, and I was on my own. So I just laid there, barely able to move, until the following evening. Three years later, I barely crash anymore. I’m still chronically ill; I have long covid, and two other conditions: postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), which hinders my ability to stand for long periods, and mast cell activation syndrome, which can cause my body to randomly react like I’m allergic to something even when I’m not. This means I have to be careful about how I spend my time and what I eat. But as I write this, I can’t remember the last time I spent an entire day in bed. “Sheer luck” is probably the best way to talk about at least some of the improvements I’ve experienced. “Privilege” is another. I wa...

US industrial companies delivered the biggest earnings surprise of any sector last quarter, with profits topping estimates as defense demand, commercial aerospace and artificial intelligence-related capital spending powered results. Industrial companies in the S&P 500 index beat estimates by 24% on average, as geopolitical tensions and increased law enforcement activity in the US drove demand for aerospace and defense stocks. Machinery and electrical equipment companies also beat expectations as AI-driven spending and infrastructure projects gained traction. Public safety technology company Axon Enterprise Inc. posted the largest beat among defense names, following better-than-expected sales of tasers and body cameras amid increased law enforcement activity in the US. Former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in February federal agents would use its use its body cameras in Minneapolis. “Some of our largest opportunities in front of us for 2026 could come from federal customers,” Chief Executive Officer Rick Smith said on the earnings call. Commercial aerospace demand drove earnings beats for General Electric Co. and Howmet Aerospace Inc. , with the latter benefiting from rising demand for spares to support legacy and new-generation jet engines and fasteners, according to Bloomberg Intelligence. GE’s strong commercial performance should continue as Boeing Co. and Airbus SE boost deliveries, BI analyst George Ferguson said. In machinery, agricultural equipment maker Deere & Co. beat Street expectations by 18% on the back of improving trends in small agriculture and construction units, and early signs of stabilization emerging in North American large agriculture, according to BI analyst Christopher Ciolino . Data Center Boost Rising demand also lifted the performance of Caterpillar Inc. , whose backlog clocked a 71% jump in the last three months of the year — its highest growth rate ever. Earnings for the quarter saw a lift from the sale of powe...

Quantum computers can process certain tasks much faster than classical computers, but they're larger, more expensive, and consume more power. They also tend to output a higher percentage of errors. But over the next decade, those computers will likely become smaller, cheaper, more power-efficient, and more accurate. As that happens, more clients could use quantum computers for more mainstream applications rather than niche research projects. To separate the potential winners and losers in this nascent market, we should focus on quantum stocks where insiders are still buying more shares than they're selling. Two such stocks that stand out are IBM (IBM 0.58%) and IonQ (IONQ +0.09%). Let's see why they could both turn a modest $5,000 investment into much more over the long term. IBM IBM is often considered a slow-growth tech giant, but it's been expanding its quantum computing business over the past decade. It's already deployed more than 85 quantum systems to run over 3 trillion programs, and it's launched several experimental chips (Eagle, Heron, Nighthawk, and Loon) to build a fully error-free quantum system by 2029. Its clients are still primarily universities and government research institutions. Still, it could reach a broader market by blending those quantum services into its expanding ecosystem of hybrid cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) services. From 2025 to 2028, analysts expect IBM's revenue and EPS to increase at CAGRs of 5% and 7%, respectively, as its hybrid cloud and AI businesses continue to grow. IBM's stock still looks reasonably valued at 23 times this year's earnings, while its...
