Rivian (NASDAQ: RIVN) recently revealed its much-anticipated R2 SUV platform, setting up the company for its next leg of growth. The company has made strong inroads into the luxury electric vehicle (EV) SUV market with its R1 SUV, which, in some trims, can cost upwards of $100,000. That's obviously a somewhat limited market, and so with its cheaper R2 vehicles, it is looking to broaden its reach. The company will start selling its R2 performance all-wheel drive (AWD) model with its launch package this spring at a cost of $57,990. Its $45,000 rear-wheel drive (RWD) base model will come out in late 2027. Rivian will also offer a premium AWD drive version for $53,990 and a long-range standard RWD for $48,490. The R2 has thus far gotten rave reviews from the media; however, investors seem a little disappointed that its cheaper base model is still further off. The company has long been hyping a $45,000 starting price for the R2, despite the significant tariff headwinds that have popped up in the interim. Rivian also won't have the luxury of the $7,500 federal EV credit, which went away last fall. However, it is still expecting big sales this year. Continue reading

Heather Diehl/Getty Images News A Massachusetts federal judge on Monday blocked major changes in recommendations for childhood vaccinations agreed upon by HHS under the leadership of Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Judge Brian Murphy issued a preliminary injunction staying a January memorandum changing guidelines. That document cut t he number of diseases to be prevented by routine vaccines to 11 from 17. In addition, he stayed the appointments of 13 new Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices members in June and September of 2025 and in January of this year. All votes taken by the new members have been stayed. Murphy's order castigated the Trump administration, noting that "there is a method to how these [vaccine recommendations] historically have been made—a method scientific in nature and codified into law through procedural requirements. "Unfortunately, the Government has disregarded those methods and thereby undermined the integrity of its actions. First, the Government bypassed ACIP to change the immunization schedules, which is both a technical, procedural failure itself and a strong indication of something more fundamentally problematic: an abandonment of the technical knowledge and expertise embodied by that committee," he wrote . "Second, the Government removed all duly appointed members of ACIP and summarily replaced them without undertaking any of the rigorous screening that had been the hallmark of ACIP member selection for decades. "Again, this procedural failure highlights the very reasons why procedures exist and raises a substantial likelihood that the newly appointed ACIP fails to comport with governing law." Plaintiffs in the case, a coalition of medical societies and public health organizations, had argued that HHS' actions under RFK Jr. constituted violations of the F ederal Advisory Committee Act, which Murphy on several occasions appeared to agree with. " This injunction underscores the need for using science in public health decision-mak...

The Brent crude benchmark fell Monday but remained above $100/bbl, with no clear end in sight for the war that has shut down the Strait of Hormuz - which transits 20% of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas volumes - stoking inflation fears and dampening hopes for further rate cuts. The Federal Reserve is expected to continue holding rates steady at this week's meeting, although markets will closely watch Fed Chair Powell's remarks for clues on the path forward. " The dollar has been the ultimate safe haven during this conflict," Toronto Dominion Bank senior commodity strategist Daniel Ghali said in a note. "That is detrimental to gold, since over the last year, gold has been the ultimate safe haven." Gold and silver fell for the fourth straight session, with front-month Comex gold ( XAUUSD:CUR ) for March delivery finishing -1.2% to $4,994.00/oz, and front-month Comex March silver ( XAGUSD:CUR ) closing -0.8% to $80.263/bbl, the lowest settlement value for both metals since February 19. Alt hough upward momentum has stalled, gold and silver have still gained more than 15% and 14% YTD, respectively. Morgan Stanley is sticking with a forecast that sees the Federal Reserve resuming interest rates cuts in June and delivering another reduction in September, even as soaring oil prices prompt traders to curb bets for how much policymakers will lower borrowing costs this year. “We’re still on June and September, with the risk that of course it gets delayed,” Michael Gapen , chief US economist at Morgan Stanley told Bloomberg News in a roundtable discussion in New York on Monday. The forecast is at odds with a market that has rushed to price out rate cuts, as spiking oil prices in the wake of the Iran war threaten to revive inflation, potentially hindering the Fed’s ability to ease monetary policy. Futures tied to Fed policy rates currently price one quarter-point cut in December, down from at least 50 basis points seen as recently as last month. September odds for a quarter-point cut stand at 60%. Economists at both TD Securities and Barclays last week shifted their forecasts for the next Fed cut to September from June. Meanwhile, a bout of heavy selling in Treasuries last week took the policy-sensitive two-year yield as high as nearly 3.75%, putting it above the rate paid on reserves by the Fed — a level that is rarely broken. A market proxy for where the Fed will complete its current easing cycle, known as the terminal rate, has risen some 50 basis points from late February to above 3.4%. “I was a little surprised that the two-year moved as much as it did, I could certainly see maybe longer rates moving, but I am surprised again that the terminal rate has been repriced as high as it has been,” said Gapen. Of course, there is a possibility that the central bank could either delay its first cut until September or even December, either of which could push the next reduction into 2027, Gapen said. Posts from this author will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed. Three Tennessee teens are suing Elon Musk’s xAI over claims that the company’s Grok AI chatbot generated sexualized images and videos of themselves as minors, as reported earlier by The Washington Post. The proposed class action lawsuit, filed on Monday, accuses Musk and other xAI leaders of knowing that Grok would produce AI-generated child sexual abuse material (CSAM) when launching its “spicy mode” last year. The plaintiffs include two minors and an adult who was underage when the events in the lawsuit took place. One of the victims, identified as “Jane Doe 1,” alleges that last December, she learned that explicit, AI-generated images of herself and at least 18 other minors were available on Discord. “At least five of these files, one video and four images, depicted her actual face and body in settings with which she was familiar, but morphed into sexually explicit poses,” the lawsuit claims. The perpetrator, who has since been arrested, allegedly used Jane Doe 1’s AI-generated CSAM “as a bartering tool in Telegram group chats with hundreds of other users, trading her CSAM files for sexually explicit content of other minors.” The lawsuit claims the perpetrator generated the explicit images of Jane Doe 1 and the two other victims using Grok. It also alleges that xAI “failed to test the safety of the features it developed” and that Grok is “defective in design.” Though X has tried making it harder for users to edit images with Grok, The Verge has found that it’s still possible to manipulate images uploaded to the platform. X has maintained that “anyone using or prompting Grok to make illegal content will suffer the same consequences as if they upload illegal content.” X didn’t immediately respond to The Verge’s request for comment. “...
