Wasan Tita/iStock via Getty Images The Avantis US Equity ETF ( AVUS ) is an actively managed fund trading at reasonable valuations, thanks to its stock-picking process and somewhat conservative sector mix. With increased allocation to larger companies and the technology sector since my previous article covering this fund from late 2024, the fund also offers healthy profitability levels, despite lagging broader equity indexes like the Russell 3000. This paints a mixed picture for the fund at this moment, as described in the following sections. ETF Description & Highlights AVUS is an actively managed ETF that offers broad exposure to U.S. companies of all sizes. Through a research-driven process, the fund relies on the ability of its portfolio managers to identify companies that trade below their value and with a high profitability profile. To achieve this, the fund employs metrics such as the book-to-price ratio to determine companies’ valuation, while profitability is primarily calculated based on cash flow from operations to book value. As a final step, companies are weighted according to their respective market capitalization, adjusted for their value and profitability, where those with more attractive characteristics are assigned a heavier weight in the portfolio. As of February 28, 2026, AVUS managed approximately $10.9 billion, allocated across roughly 1,909 holdings, with an average market capitalization of $174.1 billion, which is considerably lower than the Russell 3000, a total market capitalization index, and AVUS's preferred benchmark. While the fund’s allocation is well diversified across all market caps, mega caps remain the largest category with 34.7% of assets, followed by large caps at 27.5% and mid-caps at 24.3%. This represents only a modest shift from the allocation profile seen in November 2024, when mega- and large-caps accounted for 31.3% and 25.9% of the fund, respectively, suggesting a growing preference for more established companies rather ...
