Magdalena Wygralak/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Investment Thesis In my opinion, Shell ( SHEL ) shares will still retain the potential for growth over the horizon of the year. Since my June article, the stock has increased in value by 24%, while the S&P 500 has increased by only 11%. My successful Buy recommendation at that time was based on the company's discount valuation compared to peers and the high FCF Yield, due to which the company generously pays cash to shareholders. At the moment, these discounts remain, and even with fairly conservative assumptions, my financial model in the baseline scenario estimates the fair share price at exactly $100 with a growth potential of 12.1% to the current price ($89.4 at the time of writing). I keep the Buy rating. Conflict Premium Supports LNG Portfolio Resilience I recommend reading my first article about Shell , among other things. There, in addition to financial analysis, I also deeply analyzed the company's business model, described its development strategy, the strengths and weaknesses of this strategy, and the key growth drivers and risks inherent in Shell. This will help to gain a deeper understanding of this energy giant and better understand the reasons for the company's current financial situation. Before analyzing the financial statements, I would like to draw readers' attention to the US-Iran conflict and its impact on Shell's business. In my opinion, the emerging geopolitical tension will not have a big impact on Shell's financial results. Yes, the company participates in several projects for the extraction and transportation of gas through the Strait of Hormuz. Mainly in Qatar in the North Field LNG project. Gas from Qatar is shipped mainly from the Ras Laffan plant and enters the Indian Ocean through the Strait of Hormuz, and Shell announced force majeure on this project a few days ago. In this case, Shell will lose about 20-25% of the total LNG volume, in which the company participates either as a shar...

Goran13/iStock via Getty Images By William J. Luther Originally published on March 10, 2026 Many market watchers are concerned about the softening labor market. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics , the US economy lost 92,000 nonfarm payroll jobs in February 2026. The revised payroll numbers reveal that the economy added just 156,000 jobs over the last year - or, roughly 13,000 jobs per month. That certainly looks sluggish relative to earlier reports . For comparison, the economy added roughly 122,000 jobs per month in 2024 and 210,000 jobs per month in 2023. Figure 1. Monthly Change in Nonfarm Payroll Employment, Feb 2021 – Feb 2026 Some market watchers suggest the labor market looks even worse when you disaggregate the data. As economist Justin Wolfers notes , just one sector “continues to account for more than all of the jobs created over the past year.” Whereas health care and social assistance have grown 3.2 percent since the beginning of 2025, employment across all other sectors has declined 1.2 percent. That, the pessimists say, looks like concentrated job growth masking general malaise. To the extent that those currently concerned by the most recent labor market data are merely looking for the proverbial canary in the coal mine, it is hard to fault them. It is difficult to identify turning points in real time, and it is prudent to consider whether what one is observing might indicate that the labor market is starting to soften. But the view that the labor market might be starting to soften is often conflated with a very different view: that the labor market is soft. And that latter view, at least at the moment, is inconsistent with the available data. Zoom Out Slow job growth is not necessarily a sign of a soft labor market. An economy at or near full employment will also experience slow job growth. And, when we zoom out on the labor market data, it certainly looks like we are at or near full employment, where everyone who wants a job at the prevaili...

Clary | Afp | Getty Images LONDON — European stocks are set to open broadly flat on Tuesday as global markets remain volatile and oil prices continue to fluctuate. The U.K.'s FTSE 100 index is seen opening 0.1% higher while Germany's DAX , France's CAC 40 and Italy's FTSE MIB are expected to be flat, according to data from IG. Regional markets regained ground on Tuesday morning as investors continued to weigh ongoing unrest in the Middle East and elevated global oil prices. Oil prices declined on Monday, with WTI trading at just below $95 a barrel, down from above $100 at the weekend, after a Wall Street Journal report stated the U.S. will soon announce a coalition of countries to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also told CNBC Monday that the U.S. is allowing Iranian oil tankers passage through the Strait. But oil prices jumped over 2% overnight as uncertainty lingered over a U.S.-led coalition to protect shipping. Traders' attention is turning to central bank action this week with the U.S. Federal Reserve opening a two-day policy meeting on Tuesday. The Fed has come under sustained pressure from Trump to lower interest rates but the war on Iran means traders are forecasting a hold on interest rates from the central bank when it delivers its monetary policy decision on Wednesday. Asian markets broadly rose overnight while U.S. stock futures fell slightly. Earnings come from Prudential and Poste Italiane on Tuesday, while data releases include the latest reading of EU economic sentiment. Valverde's role in the first game against City had been one of manager Alvaro Arbeloa's most important decisions. Against Jeremy Doku, he was Trent Alexander-Arnold's best friend, protecting the right-back without sacrificing his freedom to surge forward. The plan relied on long deliveries from goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois into the right flank where Valverde could attack the space behind City's high line. The first goal came exactly that way. Courtois launched long, Valverde won the duel with Nico O'Reilly, drove into the area and finished. City needed to look after Vinicius, who was mostly anonymous, but instead Madrid broke the game open through Valverde on the other side. For Arbeloa this performance was not so much a surprise. In recent weeks the coach has described Valverde as the spiritual epitome of Real Madrid, even comparing him to former player Juan Gomez - Juanito - which, at the Bernabeu, is placing a player on the highest club's altar. In his 10 years at Real Madrid, Valverde has made almost 300 appearances and has won 11 major trophies, including two Champions League triumphs. He grew up in Montevideo, Uruguay, in the neighbourhood of La Union. His father worked as a security guard at a casino. His mother cleaned houses and sometimes sold clothes to help support the family. Money was tight. His first football boots were second-hand, their toes repaired so they would last longer. One of his youth coaches nicknamed him 'Pajarito' (little bird) because as a child he seemed to bounce everywhere with the ball. His father Julio did not like that analogy too much. He preferred to think of his child as a stronger being and, with that in mind, shaped his mentality. "He taught me that fighting is in the blood," Valverde has said. "Even today he pushes me. He tells me to shoot more, to keep improving."

Hong Kong’s Ocean Park has euthanised red panda Rou Rou after the 17-year-old endangered animal experienced degenerative joint problems and stopped responding to palliative care. Ocean Park said on Tuesday that its animal care and veterinary teams had provided Rou Rou with comprehensive care and monitored her geriatric conditions for five years, but could not prevent age-related ailments, including degenerative joint issues. The park added that Rou Rou showed “increasing signs of discomfort” in recent weeks and “no longer responded to palliative care”. Advertisement “Following a thorough assessment on her quality of life and welfare, the decision to humanely euthanise Rou Rou to prevent her from suffering unnecessarily was therefore made,” the statement read. “Rou Rou was surrounded by her devoted caretakers in her final moments and passed away peacefully.” Advertisement Red pandas are listed as endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s red list of threatened species. They have an average lifespan of eight to 12 years in the wild. There are fewer than 10,000 wild red pandas, according to estimates.

Apple Inc. needs to ease app store restrictions and fix “monopolistic” practices, the Chinese ruling party’s flagship newspaper said just days after the iPhone maker agreed to cut local app store fees in a major concession. The decision showed Chinese regulators are gaining ground in fighting anti-competitive behavior, the People’s Daily wrote in a commentary published Tuesday. But Chinese users and developers still face a welter of restrictions, including the inability to access third-party payment services, the newspaper said. The market is watching closely to see if Apple will finally dismantle its ‘fence’ and open up its ecosystem, it added. The frank editorial underscored how Apple, which has clashed with Tencent Holdings Ltd. and ByteDance Ltd. over its iOS app store policies, may continue to face pressure from Beijing. Last week, the US company announced that it’s dropping its typical commission on mainland app store purchases to 25% from 30% — a big climbdown by the Cupertino, California-based firm in its most important market after the US. An Apple spokesperson didn’t respond to an email and message seeking comment. Read More: Apple Cuts China Fees in Big Concession to Beijing and Tencent Apple has made a series of concessions globally under mounting antitrust pressure from regulators. In 2024, it agreed to open up its mobile wallet technology to other providers free of charge for a decade in Europe, via a settlement that ended an investigation. In China, the antitrust watchdog has been examining the company’s policies in taking a cut on in-app spending and barring external payment services and stores, Bloomberg News reported last year. “In point of fact, Apple’s App Store has long been criticized by the market for alleged monopolistic practices,” the People’s Daily wrote. “In contrast, Android is highly open, supporting not only Google Play Store but also app stores from manufacturers like Huawei and Xiaomi , as well as third-party app stores.” Apple has s...
