More and more consumers are using AI agents to surf websites and buy stuff for them. The trend promises a certain amount of automated convenience, but it has also raised the specter of new forms of fraud, spam, and other forms of large-scale internet abuse. Even after recently playing about two hours of Pragmata at Capcom’s office in San Francisco last week, I think the game is a little hard to explain. It’s a sci-fi third-person action game, but you play as two characters. You explore a mysterious lunar research station as a big man named Hugh who wears a bulky space suit and shoots aggressive robots. To give those robots any meaningful damage, you need to hack them as an android (technically, a “Pragmata”) that Hugh names Diana, who stands on his back and takes the form of a blonde-haired human child. Hacking the robots involves highlighting tiles on a grid in the right order as Diana in a minigame that reminds me of Pipe Dream. And while you’re hacking, the robots move in on you, sometimes in oppressive, suffocating groups. Many of the enemies, despite being robots instead of classic Resident Evil zombies, have a chilling presence. The most common ones I faced were tall, humanlike robots called Walkers, and they sometimes staggered forward or occasionally bent into grotesque shapes after I hacked them. Once, I actually jumped when a Walker camouflaged itself among a lineup of mannequins. Having recently acquired Astria for its anti-plasma kallikrein monoclonal antibody, navenibart, they've also been looking toward the future. And just recently, it's been reported that someone has its eyes set on BioCryst. Yes, its stock rose as much as 15% in intraday trading on Monday after a Betaville "uncooked" alert . Data by YCharts Actual details, though, were sparse. In my experience with these rumors, they are seldom true. The biopharmas that get bought out usually happen with little drama or pre-warning. In any event, it begs the question, "How much could BioCryst be in a takeout scenario?" I also take the time to review FY25 results and the path forward for BioCryst. Rumors The Betaville "uncooked" alert, by its own definition ("uncooked"), denotes a lower quality rumor (if such a thing exists). And there is no official BioCryst press release, SEC filing, or Reuters/WSJ-style confirmation of any active process. In my view, it should be, therefore, treated as mere speculation. That said, I wouldn't say it surprises me. ORLADEYO is now a large cash-generating orphan asset, and the Astria deal made its HAE franchise more coherent. So, I can see the appeal. Obviously, I'm speculating here, but I'd price a BioCryst buyout between $12-$14/share.
