Tesla (NasdaqGS:TSLA) and LG Energy Solution agreed to build a US$4.3b lithium iron phosphate battery plant in Michigan. The facility is planned to start production in 2027 and will focus on batteries for energy storage, not electric vehicles. Battery cells from the plant are intended for Tesla’s Megapack 3 systems produced in Houston, expanding the company’s U.S. manufacturing base. The deal is designed to reduce reliance on imported batteries, especially from China, and aligns with U.S. energy security policy. For investors following Tesla (NasdaqGS:TSLA), this agreement extends the company’s footprint beyond electric vehicles into large scale energy storage hardware made in the U.S. It also aligns with Tesla’s efforts to gain more control over key components in its energy business while the industry continues to discuss tariffs and supply chain concentration. The Michigan plant and Megapack 3 production in Houston would tie more of Tesla’s energy storage supply chain to U.S. facilities. Given the long lead time to 2027, some investors may track how construction progresses and how this project interacts with policy incentives for domestic battery manufacturing. AMD CEO Lisa Su Visits Naver 1784 Signs MOU for AI Infrastructure Cooperation between the two companies Sovereign AI "will strengthen technical sovereignty" on Naver 사진 확대 AMD CEO Lisa Su (center) visits Naver 1784 in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province on the 18th and meets with Naver CEO Soo Yeon Choi (far right) to hear about Naver's major technologies. Naver has established a strategic partnership with global semiconductor company AMD to secure the initiative in next-generation computing infrastructure. The plan is to diversify artificial intelligence (AI) hardware structures that are concentrated in specific infrastructures such as Nvidia, while establishing an all-round cooperation system with AMD to expand the ecosystem through its own model 'HyperClova X'. Naver and AMD signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to expand the AI ecosystem and cooperate with next-generation infrastructure at Naver 1784, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, on the 18th. Through this agreement, the two companies plan to build an ecosystem in which AI technology is organically connected in various infrastructure environments and increase technology flexibility. First of all, the two companies plan to strengthen technological cooperation to build a high-performance GPU operation environment optimized for Naver's HyperClova X, and jointly upgrade infrastructure technology that can operate AI models stably. Naver has world-class AI full stack capabilities that connect the entire process from source model development to data center operation, cloud infrastructure, and large-scale user services with its own technology, a Naver official said. "Based on this unique technology, we will present an innovative standard that combines hardware and software organically by playing a key role in implementing and expanding AMD's next-generation infrastructure in a real service environment." 사진 확대 Naver CEO Soo Yeon Choi (left) and AMD CEO Lisa Su are taking photos after signing a business agreement at Naver 1784 i...

Satellite images are beginning to be released, giving a glimpse into the toll of the Iran war, with ships ablaze in an Iranian port and destroyed buildings at an American base. Information has so far been scarce about the damage being done across the Middle East, particularly when it’s inside closed military facilities, since the start of the war on February 28. The images come from Planet Labs PBC, a San Francisco-based firm used by media outlets, including Associated Press. Planet Labs has put a two-week delay on its imagery becoming public, citing concerns its imagery could be used by “adversarial actors”. Other providers, like the US Geological Survey, have been publishing lower-resolution imagery as well that has been useful. The US and Israel have been striking a wide variety of targets, including leadership figures, military bases, missile and air defence sites and positions of the paramilitary Revolutionary Guard and its volunteer force, the Basij. Iran has responded with drone and missile fire targeting Israel and nearby Gulf Arab nations. Smoke billowing following an explosion at the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas on March 2. RomanBabakin The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted breakthrough therapy designation to Sanofi’s ( SNY ) venglustat, a novel, investigational oral glucosylceramide synthase inhibitor (GCSi), for the treatment of neurological manifestations of type 3 Gaucher disease. Gaucher disease is a rare inherited lysosomal storage disorder that results from a deficiency of an enzyme called glucocerebrosidase, leading to the accumulation of sugar-and-fat molecules called glycosphingolipids in the spleen, liver, bone marrow, and lungs. Venglustat was previously granted fast-track designation from the FDA for its potential use in GD3 as well as orphan designation for GD3 in the US, EU, and Japan . Sanofi ( SNY ) will pursue global regulatory filings for venglustat in GD3 during 2026, the company said in a statement . FDA breakthrough therapy designation is designed to expedite the development and review of medicines in the U.S. that target serious or life-threatening conditions. Medicines qualifying for this designation must show preliminary clinical evidence that the drug may demonstrate substantial improvement on clinically significant endpoints over available medicines, the drugmaker said. Mounting strains in the $1.8 trillion private credit market are giving investors a reality check and making them pay more attention to the illiquid nature of the asset class — and whether they are being adequately compensated for the risks, according to Pacific Investment Management Co. Several high-profile blowups , and redemption pressures at some global private credit funds have added to investor concerns about loan quality and their exposures to software companies facing disruption from AI advances. Tighter monetary policy and sloppy loan underwriting have also exposed some of the vulnerabilities. “The big lesson of all of this is that, from an investor standpoint, this is a little bit of a wake-up moment,” said Lotfi Karoui , a multi-asset credit strategist at Pimco, on a March 17 podcast . “People will think a little more carefully” about where they deploy capital, the liquidity risk they have taken, and whether they are being paid enough for that, he said. Karoui, who had been chief credit strategist at Goldman Sachs before joining Pimco earlier this year, said he also expects “a deep rethinking on how much illiquid risk” investors are taking in their multi-asset portfolios. Private Credit Gate-Crashers Are Forcing Funds Into Brutal Spot Blue Owl Anxiety Rattles $1.8 Trillion Private Credit Market Wealth Bankers Rush to Calm Growing Private Credit Fears in Asia Banks and asset managers are already responding to the recent developments. JPMorgan Chase & Co. has restricted some lending to private credit funds after marking down certain loans, according to a person familiar with the matter. Cliffwater LLC has faced redemption pressure in its $33 billion flagship fund, while BlackRock Inc. capped withdrawals from its HPS Corporate Lending Fund and Blackstone Inc. allowed a record 7.9% of shares to be redeemed from its BCRED vehicle . Karoui said banks and alternative asset managers are much more interconnected than a decade ago. He said that’s reflected in Federa...

Pla2na/iStock via Getty Images Shares of HealthEquity ( HQY ) have been a poor performer over the past year, losing about 20% of their value. While the company has reported solid financial results, shares have been weighed down by its valuation. Plus, the failure to extend Obamacare subsidies has raised concern over a potential decline in insurance rates, which could reduce HSA account growth, a headwind for HQY. I last covered shares of HealthEquity in June , when I rated the stock a "hold," given a full valuation but clear tailwinds from interest rates and account growth. That outlook proved too optimistic, with shares down 29% since then, making a sell the appropriate recommendation. With updated financials, now is a good time to revisit HQY to see if shares are cheap enough to buy. Seeking Alpha Financial results are solid In the company's fourth quarter , HealthEquity earned $0.95, which beat estimates by $0.05 as revenue grew by 7% to $335 million. Service revenue grew by 2%, interchange revenue grew by 6%, and custodial revenue was up 12%. Thanks to fixed-rate reinvestment, margins continue to improve, expanding 500 bps to 40%, and EBITDA jumped 23% to $133 million. For the full year, the company earned $4.00, whereas I was expecting $3.70-$3.80. In other words, the company's own financial performance has been solid, and share price weakness has been driven by multiple compression. We have seen the company continue to grow accounts, with HSA accounts growing by 7% to 10.6 million. Increasing its account total is the primary way it drives more revenue. I continue to believe HSA accounts are likely to experience secular growth. Employers continue to shift to higher deductible plans to minimize costs. Plus, the 2025 tax law made bronze and catastrophic ACA plans HSA-compatible. HealthEquity While decreased government subsidies may reduce usage of HSA plans, this should still be a net tailwind in 2026. To some extent, lower subsidies may also lead consumers to "t...

India’s rupee may slump to 95 against the dollar over the next year because of the fallout from the Iran conflict, putting pressure on the central bank to act if inflation picks up, according to Goldman Sachs Group Inc.’s chief economist for the country. “The rupee remains under pressure in our view, given the current account deficit is widening,” Santanu Sengupta said Wednesday in an interview with Bloomberg TV’s Haslinda Amin . Although inflation remains under control at the moment, if higher oil prices and a weaker rupee filters through to consumer prices, the Reserve Bank of India will need to tighten, he said. “That question will come up further down the line rather than now,” he added. The Indian rupee was trading at 92.4375 against the dollar on Wednesday, near its record low close of 92.4575 a dollar on Friday. The RBI has been intervening in the currency markets to cushion the fall in rupee. Goldman Sachs last week cut its growth forecast for India for this year to 6.5% from 7%, and increased its inflation estimate by 30 basis points. It predicted the current account deficit will widen by 0.8 percentage points to 1.2% of gross domestic product this year from 2025. READ: India Growth Seen at Risk as Iran War Shows No Sign of Easing With India’s government using fiscal policy to cushion the economy from the energy shocks, the RBI won’t need to act immediately, Sengupta said, but will likely provide liquidity support to the economy. There is a risk of higher bond supply in the next fiscal year starting in April, depending on the duration of the conflict and oil prices, he added. The RBI kept interest rates unchanged in February, with Governor Sanjay Malhotra signaling monetary policy would be on hold for an extended period. While consumer demand in urban areas may be hit because of the energy shortages, rural demand remains healthy because of low food prices , Sengupta said. “We are still fairly optimistic of the economy to handle the stress,” he said. The gov...
