Jack Smith Subpoenaed Records On Kash Patel: Documents Authored by Zachary Stieber via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours), The team behind the Arctic Frost investigation subpoenaed years’ worth of records on Kash Patel, who now heads the FBI, according to documents released on March 24. Former special counsel Jack Smith testifies about his investigations into President Donald Trump, before the House Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington, on Jan. 22, 2026. Madalina Kilroy/The Epoch Times Former special counsel Jack Smith subpoenaed Verizon for Patel’s phone records from October 2020 through February 2023, the documents, made public by Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee, showed. Patel was part of the Trump administration from 2019 through January 2021. After the Biden administration took office, Patel began a nonprofit foundation and worked as a consultant, frequently appearing in media to back Trump and his policies. The subpoenas asked for various details about Patel’s accounts, including financial information and text messages, the records showed . Text and call logs were among the requested details. Patel disclosed the subpoenas in February, describing them as “outrageous and deeply alarming.” He said that previous FBI leaders “secretly subpoenaed my own phone records—along with those of now White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles—using flimsy pretexts and burying the entire process in prohibited case files designed to evade all oversight.” The FBI declined to comment further on Tuesday. Arctic Frost started in 2022. The effort, which involved Smith and FBI officials, featured subpoenas involving more than a dozen Republican members of Congress and the seizure of a phone used by President Donald Trump, whom prosecutors ultimately charged with interfering with certification of the 2020 presidential election for alleging that voter fraud took place. The case was dropped when Trump in 2024 won a second term in office. Smith has defended the invest...

New Zealand will adopt a careful approach to the fuel crisis because it doesn’t have the fiscal headroom for unrestrained spending to ease the pain of higher pump prices, according to Finance Minister Nicola Willis . “We are determined to have a very responsible approach to how we respond to the unfolding crisis,” Willis told Bloomberg Television on Wednesday from Wellington. “It’s been our view that blanket reductions in the petrol tax or capping of prices is not an affordable response for New Zealand.” The government is “in a period of fiscal consolidation and we wish to stick to our goals of returning our books to surplus and bending our debt curve down,” she added. Willis on Tuesday announced a targeted support package for low- and middle-income households but has rejected calls for broader relief. The finance minister said she has engaged with New Zealand lenders to ensure they are prepared to support their farming and business customers through any short-term pain. “We’ve said as a government we will take a careful and measured response,” she said. “We’re working very closely alongside industry and business to understand what they need and they’ve reiterated to us very clearly in the first instance they’re relying on us to do everything we can to ensure they have access to fuel.” Willis acknowledged the shock will cause an inflation spike and may curb economic growth, depending on a range of scenarios such as the duration of the Iran conflict and impacts on supply chains. “So in those scenarios we see lower growth occurring, but even in some of the worst case scenarios, we are still at this point anticipating our economy will continue to grow positively this year, but not as fast as it was going to,” she said. “We are anticipating higher levels of inflation and of course we are being prudent as a government to ensure that our fiscal response doesn’t inadvertently pump prime and exacerbate those inflationary pressures in the economy.” Reserve Bank Governor Anna...

With 2025 results out and big plans to expand production, CMCL is worth another look. The reward is huge down the road, but miners aren't without risks in execution. Summary of Previous Thesis Back in December , I covered the stock not only to catch up on Q3 result but also to consider a potential policy in Zimbabwe that was related to the higher prices of gold. Namely, it was a higher royalty tax if the price of gold were to exceed $5,000 per oz. Only a proposal at the time, I didn't think too much of it, especially as gold was still below that price. Financial Data (Q3 2025 Company Presentation) I shifted focus to the long term. Blanket mine, their lone operating asset, was providing over $200M per year with its annual production of 75K-80K oz per share. A recently completed feasibility study had shown that Bilboes could produce an additional 200K oz per year. This could lead to $1B in revenue and perhaps $400M to $500M in free cash flow. As the market cap was $523M at the time, this would seem like a steal once Bilboes begins production in late 2028. With three years to wait and execution risks in the meantime, I observed: As the project is a few years away too, there's plenty of room for setbacks. Nevertheless, as CMCL appreciated and increased its dividend around the completion of capital projects at Blanket in 2021, I think we can afford to wait here. In short, I perceived no advantage in being too early on this stock, and I maintained my Hold rating. Q4 and Full-Year 2025 Results Caledonia just released its unaudited 2025 financial results. Both the fourth quarter and the full year proved to be one of Caledonia's best on record. Q4 2025 Earnings Presentation This was in spite of lower amounts of gold produced for both periods. Even though mining capacity did not decline, management attributed the lower production to the lower-gr...
