Israel struck Iran’s South Pars gas field and key energy facilities in Asaluyeh, damaging infrastructure responsible for a significant portion of Iran’s gas output and halting operations at critical sites. That marked a shift from earlier disruptions centered on transit routes to direct impairment of supply. Iran’s response expanded the conflict further. Missile strikes hit Qatar’s Ras Laffan industrial complex, the world’s largest liquefied natural gas export facility, taking a meaningful portion of global LNG capacity offline. Additional attacks across the Gulf region forced intermittent shutdowns at refineries and export terminals, raising concerns that the disruption was spreading beyond isolated targets into a broader regional energy shock. Compounding the supply disruption, Iraq declared force majeure on certain foreign-operated oilfields, signaling that production and export obligations could no longer be met under current conditions. At the same time, reports indicated that the Pentagon had made preparations for the potential deployment of ground forces inside Iran, highlighting the growing risk that the conflict could expand beyond its current scope. The Wall Street Journal said one of the missiles failed in flight, and that a US warship fired an SM-3 interceptor at the other, citing two US officials. It could not be determined if an interception was made, one said. CNN also reported the launches targeting Diego Garcia, citing a US official, while describing it as a crucial overseas US military staging post for operations far from home and a key airfield for the US military’s heavy bomber fleet. The launches marked a significant attempt by Iran to reach far beyond the Middle East and threaten US interests, the WSJ said. "There are situations where you get criticism and certain things are regarded as, if you like, 'controversial'," said Edwards. "You get [made] aware of criticism, but I've always taken the view that comes with the territory. "And if you don't want to be in that situation, you shouldn't be doing it. "Obviously there might be situations where you do something and you think, 'I'll learn from that' because we're all learning all of the time and you can never say you've stopped learning." But social media means the negative examinations are very public. "Personally, I don't look at social media or anything like that," said Edwards. "Some do. I just take the view I'm there to do a job. Five years ago, New Fortress Energy ( NFE ) acquired Golar LNG Partners in a $1.9 billion transaction and subsequently delisted the partnership's Preferred Units from Nasdaq. With the Preferred Units still trading on the OTC Expert Market as of today, most retail investors remain precluded from transactions in the securities except for closing existing positions. However, a limited number of brokers seem to permit opening new positions. In case of doubt, investors should contact their broker. In recent years, debt-laden parent New Fortress Energy has stripped the company of its assets and left the partnership as an empty shell without sufficient funds to cover approximately $3 million in regular quarterly cash distributions to holders of the company's Preferred Units. To avoid an adverse audit opinion, New Fortress Energy provided an " irrevocable letter of support " as outlined in Golar LNG Partners' 2023 financial statements on page F-10 (emphasis added by author): The ability of the Partnership to continue as a going concern is dependent upon the continued financial support from the ultimate parent undertaking, NFE. British pet owners who want to take their furry friends elsewhere in Europe have been warned not to try to dodge expensive health certificates by using a pet passport issued abroad. Before Brexit, taking a cat, dog or ferret to the EU was relatively simple: the Pet Travel Scheme meant an animal needed a microchip, vaccination against rabies, a pet passport and, for dogs, there were also requirements concerning tapeworm treatment. But since 2021 the process has become more cumbersome – and expensive – with the pet passport component replaced by the animal health certificate (AHC). This document must be issued within the 10 days before entry to the EU and is valid for four months for onward travel within the EU and re-entry to Great Britain. A slightly simpler process involving a pet travel document is in place for travel from Great Britain to Northern Ireland. Pet passports can still be issued to owners resident in Northern Ireland. However, social media sites including Reddit and Facebook are replete with pet owners reporting that they have bypassed the need for an AHC by obtaining a pet passport from a vet within the EU, with this approach often taken by people in the motorhome and “van life” community. Pakistan’s bombardment campaign, on what it says is terrorist and military infrastructure in neighbouring Afghanistan, appeared to have gone catastrophically wrong. A rehabilitation centre for drug addicts was hit on Monday night, according to the United Nations and the Afghan authorities.
