Greg Abel, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, speaks during the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholders Meeting in Omaha, NE on May 2, 2026. CNBC OMAHA, Nebraska — In his debut running Berkshire Hathaway 's annual meeting, Greg Abel delivered what many shareholders came to see: a steady hand, a firm grasp of the sprawling conglomerate and just enough of his own style to reassure investors the post-Warren Buffett era is on solid footing. The reviews from longtime shareholders and professional investors were broadly positive, even as many acknowledged the notable absence of Buffett, whose wit, storytelling and investing acumen have long defined the event. "Very solid. No misspoke words. Thorough answers," said Steve Check, founder of Check Capital Management. "Nice guy, but we sure don't have the laughs that we had with Warren and Charlie [Munger]." "Greg and company delivered on content, examination of businesses and confidence in outlook," Macrae Sykes, a portfolio manager at Gabelli Funds. David Kass, a finance professor at University of Maryland and a decades-long Berkshire shareholder, said he grew more confident in Berkshire after seeing firsthand Abel's performance. He pointed to the firm's "deep bench" — including executives like vice chairman of Berkshire's insurance operations Ajit Jain; Adam Johnson, president of Berkshire's consumer products , service and retailing businesses; and BNSF Railway CEO Katie Farmer — as evidence that leadership continuity runs well beyond a single figure. "Greg demonstrated the knowledge of and passion for running all of Berkshire's businesses," Kass said. "His main focus is that of operations. By contrast, Buffett focuses more on the investment side of Berkshire." Granular insights That shift in emphasis was evident throughout the Q&A session, where Abel leaned into detailed discussions of Berkshire's subsidiaries, a level of specificity that resonated with shareholders seeking reassurance about execution under new leadership. "The ans...

'Bluesky Goes Full Panic' After Fired Trump Official's Anti-ICE Website Doxxes Almost 18,000 Leftists Nearly 18,000 left-wing activists on BlueSky are in panic mode this weekend after an anti-ICE activist website launched by a fired Trump official exposed their personal details due to a vulnerable connection (an unprotected API). The website - "GTFO ICE" - was created by former DHS Chief of Staff and Google security executive, Miles Taylor , as a rapid response network that allows people to sign up for alerts about proposed ICE facilities in their area , HRR reports. Taylor, who launched the site in partnership with Project Salt Box, appeared last week on The Rachel Maddow show to announce their "rapid response network to stop ICE prison camps before they start." The breach exposed sign-up records, may have been forwarded to federal investigators. As Hagerstown Rapid Response writes of their experience: Three days ago, we signed up on the platform using multiple email addresses and phone numbers across several locations listed on the site, including Hagerstown and Williamsport, Maryland, as well as Salt Lake City. No confirmation emails or texts were received at the time of signup. That changed this morning. One of the phone numbers used during signup received a text message claiming that user data submitted to GTFOICE.org had been forwarded to federal authorities , including the FBI, HSI, and ICE. The message also included inflammatory claims about the individuals behind the project. We responded to the message but received no reply. Shortly after, the GTFOICE.org website appeared to acknowledge an issue. Around 6 p.m. Eastern, the site displayed a notice stating that signups were temporarily paused while a security review was completed. Within roughly twenty minutes, that message was removed and replaced with a generic “under construction” page. It remains unclear whether the message received was the result of a confirmed breach, a malicious spoof, or another form...

Igor Barilo The United States is accelerating efforts to build military drones at scale, but China’s grip on key components threatens to slow that ambition, The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday. As drones reshape warfare in Ukraine, the Middle East and elsewhere, Pentagon leaders want America to dominate the next generation of low-cost unmanned systems. Yet batteries, motors, cameras and control electronics used in many frontline drones are heavily tied to Chinese manufacturing. Recent drone teardowns in Ukraine found numerous Chinese-made or Chinese-linked parts inside systems used by both Russian and Ukrainian forces, underscoring how deeply China’s supply chain is embedded in modern battlefield hardware. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has launched a $1.1 billion “Drone Dominance” program aimed at boosting U.S. production and lowering costs through large military purchases. The Pentagon plans to buy 340,000 first-person-view drones over multiple phases, targeting a future unit cost of about $2,300. The challenge is steep. U.S.-made military quadcopters can cost more than $15,000, several times the price of comparable Chinese systems. China also controls much of the rare-earth magnet and battery supply chains needed for motors and power packs. Industry experts say the issue is less about engineering than scale. China dominates commercial drones through DJI, which holds a large share of the U.S. market and benefits from mass production that American rivals lack. Washington is also trying to restrict foreign-made drones on national-security grounds. A broader FCC ban on imported drones and critical components is expected to take effect in 2027, though some analysts warn it could raise costs for U.S. producers before domestic supply chains are ready. Experts say the U.S. can build a competitive drone industry, but replacing an existing ecosystem that is already cheap, efficient and global will take years of investment and sustained demand.
