gradyreese/iStock via Getty Images Overview The Nuveen Core Plus Impact Fund ( NPCT ) provides investors with a way to get exposure to companies that meet specific ESG (environmental, social, and governance) criteria, while collecting a high income. At the time of my last coverage, I issued a sell rating due to the fact that the fund was paying out a lot more than it actually earned. Since then, the fund has surprisingly provided a total return that outpaces the S&P 500 Index ( SPX ). NPCT has released a new annual report since my prior coverage, which prompted me to revisit the fund's earnings, outlook, and overall value proposition through the remainder of the year. When I previously covered NPCT, the fund traded at a discount to NAV of 8.86%. Following the fund's recent rally higher, NPCT now trades at a smaller discount to NAV of 2.58%. Referring to the red line on the graph below, we can see that NPCT now trades at the least appealing end of its historical price-to-NAV range. For reference, NPCT has traded at an average discount to NAV of 9.49% over the last five year period. Therefore, I do not believe that this is a good time to begin accumulating shares. I would like to see the fund's price-to-NAV level fall somewhere in the middle of its historical range first. CEF Data NPCT now offers investors a high starting dividend yield of 11.2% while issuing those payouts on a monthly basis. After reviewing the latest annual report, it is clear that the fund still struggles to support these distributions. Since it is unsustainable to continue paying out more than it earns, I anticipate that NPCT may eventually reduce its distribution. I predict there's a good chance that management reduces its payouts once the discount to NAV valuation is eliminated. Furthermore, the focus on income and specific ESG criteria means that investors should be aware of the specific tradeoff performance tradeoffs. Fund Strategy According to the latest fund overview , NPCT has total managed...

President Donald Trump said the US will help ships stranded in the Persian Gulf transit the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as a “humanitarian gesture” and testing his ability to restore traffic through the strategic waterway for the first time since the war with Iran began. The operation, dubbed Project Freedom, was set to begin on Monday with the US military pledging to provide support, including the use of guided-missile destroyers, aircraft and drones. “The Ship movement is merely meant to free up people, companies, and Countries that have done absolutely nothing wrong — They are victims of circumstance,” Trump wrote late Sunday in a social media post . “If, in any way, this Humanitarian process is interfered with, that interference will, unfortunately, have to be dealt with forcefully.” Read more: Trump Hormuz Plan Leaves Shipowners Guessing as Attacks Persist Trump said some of the ships stranded in the Persian Gulf have large crews that are running out of food while they’re waiting for safe passage through Hormuz. He said that several countries have asked the US for help in freeing up their ships. The plan has left shipping executives perplexed, with few details provided by the president. Iran’s military, after Trump’s announcement, said US forces would be attacked if they entered the Strait of Hormuz, according to a statement carried by Iranian broadcaster Press TV. An “enhanced security area” has been established by the US to support transits, according to the Joint Maritime Information Center on Monday. JMIC, a multinational body that analyzes security threats in the area, advised vessels to consider crossing the waterway through Omani waters. It warned of the presence of mines north of Omani waters. There were more reports of attacks on ships. A tanker reported being hit by projectiles roughly 80 miles (129 kilometers) north of the UAE port Fujairah on Sunday, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations, which provides security updates for the region.
