( GME ) offering to buyout EBAY ( EBAY ). We have seen some strange deals here with people chasing one bubble after the next, but this one might be right at the top of the list. We go over the conditions, tell you why EBAY executives are probably laughing at this offer and go over how it can be easily topped. The Offer Before we start, let's see the market caps and enterprise values of the two companies. EBAY sports a market capitalization almost 4 times that of GME. Data by YCharts If you adjust for cash/debt held on the balance sheet (aka enterprise value), EBAY is about 7 times the size of GME. Data by YCharts So as far as offers go, this has to be one of the most disproportional. It might make sense if EBAY was gunning for GME. The other way around? Only would happen in meme heaven, which is where we are. GME offered $125 for EBAY shares, a modest premium to the stock's closing price on May 1, 2026. This changes the numbers above even more in favor of EBAY. GME proposes to achieve this by issuing more of its overvalued stock and taking on tons of debt. GameStop common stock, with full shareholder election rights as to consideration type and pro-rata allocation. JHVEPhoto Shopify ( SHOP ) is set to announce first-quarter earnings results on Tuesday, and investors will be watching the company’s agentic commerce and AI-driven initiatives, as well as its gross merchandise volume (GMV) growth, amid geopolitical uncertainty, higher fuel prices, and weakening consumer confidence. Wall Street expects the Canadian e-commerce company to post EPS of $0.33 on revenue of $3.09B for the quarter. The company, during its Q4 earnings call, said that it expects Q1 revenue growth in the low 30s year over year, similar to its Q4 2025 growth rate. Market analysts see upside for the company, citing that the firm’s agentic commerce and AI strategy are powering its top-line growth. KeyBanc Capital Markets rated SHOP as Overweight, with a price target of $160, implying over 25% upside from last Friday’s close of $127.67. The brokerage firm highlighted that Shopify-backed Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) has recently added major players like Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, and Salesforce to its tech council. Although Shopify also supports the Agentic Commerce Protocol, the brokerage firm believes the momentum of UCP is more beneficial for Shopify and its merchants. The company’s shares have dipped over 21% year to date, underperforming the benchmark S&P 500, which has gained 5.6% in the same period. Cigna To Exit Obamacare In 2027 Amid Rising Costs Authored by Mary Prenon via The Epoch Times, The Cigna Group, one of the country’s largest health services and insurance firms, is joining others , including Aetna and UnitedHealthcare, in divesting its individual health exchange business. By the end of 2026, Cigna Group will no longer offer insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as “Obamacare,” the company said during its April 30 earnings call. According to its first-quarter earnings report, as of March 31, the company’s individual exchange business had 369,000 members in individual and family plans. “We did not make this decision lightly, and appreciate the importance of ensuring patients have continuity through the transition,” Brian Evanko, Cigna Group’s president, chief operating officer, and incoming CEO, said during the earnings call. “Looking to the future, there’s no question that the status quo in healthcare is unsustainable. Costs continue to rise, as does demand for healthcare services, an untenable equation,” he said. “We will support members through their open enrollment transitions into 2027.” Cigna’s decision comes after other health insurance companies, such as CVS Health and UnitedHealthcare, divested insurance business under the ACA. In its first-quarter 2025 earnings report, released on Feb. 10, CVS Health announced that it was exiting its individual exchange business, where its health insurance arm, Aetna, independently operates ACA plans, beginning in 2026. Swiss lawmakers postponed a preliminary vote on a law that will determine UBS Group AG ’s future capital needs, creating a delay of several months just as the legislative process gets started. The first hearing of the bill in the Upper House’s Economic Affairs and Taxation Committee on Monday concluded without a recommendation on whether lawmakers of the chamber should support or reject the proposal, according to people familiar with the talks who declined to be identified discussing closed-door meetings. That means the Upper House will likely only vote on the legislation — which could ultimately impose roughly $20 billion in additional capital requirements on UBS’s Swiss unit — in its September session, and not in June, the people said. A spokesperson for the committee declined to comment. The entire legislative process, which also includes the Lower House, is expected to take at least until next year. UBS Chief Executive Officer Sergio Ermotti was among attendees of the meeting in Bern, alongside Finance Minister Karin Keller-Sutter , Swiss National Bank President Martin Schlegel and Stefan Walter , head of financial regulator Finma. Switzerland’s government has been driving the reform that intends to force UBS to fully back its foreign units with capital at the parent bank. Both stocks were down 10% in midday trading. The companies did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Shares of Amazon remained largely unchanged. The tech company's " Amazon Supply Chain Services " will allow companies spanning multiple industries to use Amazon's supply chain and logistics to move and deliver products and raw materials. It's part of Amazon's ongoing growth in services. The announcement could set up Amazon as a major player next to UPS and FedEx, opening up its fleet of more than 100 cargo plans and a massive network of warehouses. Amazon said major retailers including Procter & Gamble , 3M , Lands' End and American Eagle Outfitters have already signed up for the new program. Data by YCharts Five subsequent articles gave similar, though more nuanced advice - i.e. as a rule, preferred shares issued by utilities are better than ones issued by financials; there are tax considerations; a few preferred shares have covenants that stop payment of debt in a restructuring until their dividends are paid, etc. In general, though, the advice to avoid this asset class has been sound. The ETFs I analyzed, and the S&P US Preferred Stock Index , have performed abysmally, comparable to or even worse than cash, and all have lagged the S&P 500 . Filing adds new tension to high-stakes AI trial

Berkshire Hathaway ( BRK.B ) B shares rose 0.6% in Monday midday trading after the conglomerate's annual meeting on Saturday assured investors that the investing behemoth will continue to embrace the unique culture that legendary investor Warren Buffett imbued in the company. The meeting clearly demonstrated that new CEO Greg Abel is leading the show, both in terms of managing Berkshire's sprawling businesses and in confidently emceeing the annual meeting, demonstrating his deep operational knowledge of the company. Furthermore, he discussed the importance of leveraging technology, particularly AI, into its businesses to make them more efficient, a topic that 95-year-old Buffett wasn't particularly well-versed in. Before Monday's open, KBW analyst Meyer Shields, who rates the stock Underperform, expected Berkshire Hathaway's ( BRK.A ) ( BRK.B ) stock to trade up on the Q1 earnings beat vs. consensus tempered by lower-than-expected share buybacks and cautious near-term commentary. "We think CEO Greg Abel did a very strong job of communicating a detailed understanding of the nuances of many of the wide array of businesses, including near-term challenges," Shields wrote in a note to clients. And while investors received more detailed information about Berkshire's operating businesses, there was little illumination on capital deployment opportunities, he said. "We didn’t really learn much about the presumed eventual investment opportunities that (as we understand it) keep BRK.A from paying even a modest regular dividend despite its cash holdings now exceeding $380B," Shields said.
