Abu Dhabi weighs setting up new entity for defense deals. Beverly Hills bullish The conventional wisdom in M&A has long been that volatility is bad for dealmaking. When the VIX goes up, M&A goes down. That’s been turned on its head lately, as laundry lists of disruptions –including AI, trade wars, actual wars, private credit woes and more–are actually spurring one of the frothiest M&A waves on record. That’s the takeaway from a panel of dealmakers at the Milken Institute Global Conference in Beverly Hills, California, on Tuesday. “Earlier, you would think about doing an M&A deal as adding to risk,” said Anu Aiyengar, global head of M&A at JPMorgan Chase. “And now you think about doing M&A to mitigate the risk that is facing your business. Geopolitical risk. AI risk. Tech-enablement risk. Supply chain risk. Demographic risk.” That’s all reframing how M&A is used as a tool, she said. The annual event is one of the most influential gatherings in global finance and policy, drawing a who’s who of CEOs, founders, financiers, politicians and celebrities. While TED-style panels dominate the main stage, the real action happens in closed-door meetings in suites and side rooms at the Beverly Hilton, where fundraising talks and M&A discussions often turn into deals months later. The backdrop of this year’s conference: An M&A market defined by ambitious megadeals that shows no signs of stopping, despite rising consumer prices, wars in the Middle East and Europe and deep pol...

NBZ Investment Advisors LLC increased its holding in the First Eagle Global Equity ETF (NYSE:FEGE) by 78,360 shares in the first quarter of 2026, according to a recent SEC filing . The estimated transaction value was $3.8 million, calculated using the average closing price for the quarter. The quarter-end value of the stake increased by $3.9 million, reflecting both this purchase and price appreciation. The First Eagle Global Equity ETF (FEGE) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that invests primarily in equity and equity-related securities issued by U.S. and non-U.S. companies, targeting long-term capital growth and income. NBZ increased its FEGE position by roughly 45% in the first quarter -- a solid sign of conviction in this actively-managed global equity ETF. The move comes at a time when international markets have broadly lagged U.S. stocks for years -- and some investors may be starting to wonder whether a skilled active manager might navigate that gap better than a passive index fund. Saudi Arabia cut the price of its main oil grade for Asia next month from a record-high in May, though it remained near historic levels as the war in the Middle East continues to severely disrupt supplies. State oil producer Saudi Aramco lowered its flagship Arab Light crude by $4 a barrel to a premium of $15.50 over regional benchmarks in June, according to a price list seen by Bloomberg. The company was expected to lower the official selling price by $8 a barrel, according to a Bloomberg survey of nine traders and refiners. Still, the premium for next month is the second -highest on record. The biggest Gulf oil producers have seen their access to global markets largely cut off as the vital Strait of Hormuz remains mainly shut. Saudi Arabia is one of the few that’s still able to export some of its crude using a pipeline that empties at the western port of Yanbu on the Red Sea coast at the other side of the country. Aramco’s official rates may not be the final price paid by refiners, as they apply to crude loaded from Ras Tanura located inside the Persian Gulf, traders said, asking not to be identified as they’re not authorized to speak publicly. There may be additional pipeline and other costs for supplies from Yanbu. Aramco uses the Dubai and Oman oil benchmarks to price its crude. Those indexes had become increasingly erratic since the war in the Middle East created a shortage of the barrels used to assess prices for the region. After surging in March, the prices of these regional barrels eased in April. Global benchmark Brent has increased by more than 50% since the conflict started at the end end of February. It jumped to a four-year high in recent days as the US and Iran remained at a deadlock over the Strait of Hormuz and the wider conflict. On Sunday, seven countries in the OPEC+ producer group led by Saudi Arabia and Russia agreed to a nominal and symbolic rise in production quotas. The actual increase will depend on the Strait of Hormuz reopening and natio...

The Nuclear Co. And Brookfield Partner For New Large Reactor Projects Brookfield announced that it has formed a partnership with The Nuclear Company (TNC), to create a new company for developing Westinghouse reactor technology. This new company, which remains unnamed, is being positioned as a world-leading nuclear project execution company . A few weeks ago, we covered how Bloomberg anticipated an announcement for new AP1000s. But it appears TNC is focusing the JV's efforts, in the near term, on the possible restart and completion of the two AP1000 reactors at VC Summer in South Carolina. Westinghouse originally attempted to construct the two large reactors in 2017, but eventually canceled the project after costs spiraled out of control . Brookfield is now performing the studies necessary to make a Final Investment Decision by 2027, which would mean purchasing the partially-completed assets from Santee Cooper for $2.7 billion. The new company will also offer execution capabilities for deploying Westinghouse's smaller AP300 design with “end-to-end project management, licensing support, and oversight of engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning activity.” TNC's Chief Nuclear Officer, Joe Klecha, frames the announcement as finally addressing what the nuclear industry has been lacking in order to truly unleash the nuclear renaissance build out phase, “ We know what it takes to deliver nuclear. What’s been missing is a model that brings together the people, the capabilities, and the capital to do it at speed and scale. That’s what this partnership creates. ” The timelines are still relatively disappointing. Every month China seems to be adding another reactor to their "under construction" stack, with India gaining speed as well. As the months go on, it becomes harder and harder to take the nuclear renaissance seriously in the United States, given the lack of nuclear energy being added to the grid. It's also bewildering that Brookfield and Cameco are still ...
