Henry St John/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Sysco ( SYY ) is a relatively boring, stable business but one that makes for a great investment in my view. The company has a dominant market position, consistent free cash flow, 56 consecutive years of dividend increases, and a low-beta profile that holds up well when markets get choppy given the end markets it serves. With the stock down about 19% from the highs back in February, the pullback has created an attractive entry point. With local volumes growing in Q3 plus a huge acquisition that'll add a high-margin, cash-and-carry channel, the earnings and free cash flow profile of the combined business has materially changed. I believe Sysco deserves a closer look given its attractive valuation with a mid-teens multiple. A look at Q3 FY26 results Looking at the most recent quarterly results that Sysco reported last week, the company reported a slight miss on revenue but EPS was in line with estimates. On revenue, sales grew grew 4.7% year over year to $20.52 billion, coming in just below the $20.8 billion consensus. On the bottom line, EPS of 0.94 came in as expected by the sellside. Seeking Alpha As for what led to the results, Sysco's U.S. local case volume growth came in at 3.3% which represented a 210bps improvement from Q2 and the strongest quarterly local volume growth in three years. This matters because local customers, independent restaurants and smaller foodservice operators, are the highest-margin part of Sysco's business. Since they order more frequently and require more service, they generally carry better gross margins than national accounts. For Sysco, every time local volume accelerates, the margin mix improves. On gross profit, Sysco saw growth of 6.5% compared to last year (outpacing revenue growth) as margins expanded by 31bps to 18.6%. On the conference call following the quarter, management attributed that expansion to better sourcing, stronger local volume mix, improved Sysco Brand penetration, an...

And this could be pertinent to some of the stocks with the highest dividend yields in the S&P 500 today. Be forewarned that in some cases, the names below have entered elite-yield territory only because their share prices have come under stress. In turn, that has some analysts concerned about the sustainability of payouts going forward.” While most of this collection of S&P500 dividend stocks are over-priced or reveal only skinny dividends, five of the eleven highest yield 'safer' S&P500 May Dogs are ready to buy. The list was screened to remove stocks showing negative annual returns this month. May finds: VICI Properties ( VICI ); Verizon ( VZ ); Ford Motor ( F ); Franklin Resources ( BEN ); Host Hotels ( HST ); AT&T ( T ) living up to the dogcatcher ideal of annual dividends from $1K invested exceeding single share prices. All five are also 'safer' because they have free cash flow adequate to support their dividends. With renewed downside market pressure of up to 27%, all ten of the top 'safer' dividend dogs could become ideal, fair-priced buys, with annual yield (from $1K invested) meeting or exceeding their single share prices. Valerie Loiseleux/iStock Unreleased via Getty Images McDonald's ( MCD ) is set to post first-quarter earnings on Thursday, before markets open. Wall Street expects the fast-food chain to post EPS of $2.74 on revenue of $6.47B, implying a rise of 8.6% during the quarter. Over the last two years, MCD has beaten both revenue and EPS estimates 50% of the time. The company, in February, saw a recovery in global comparable sales, which popped 5.7% during the fourth quarter, while U.S. comparable sales jumped 6.8%, thanks to successful marketing promotions. Even though the company has sustained growth and a strong global presence, analysts warned that economic volatility is a major risk to the company. “Fast-food restaurants are still experiencing the impact of softer spending amid the rising prices due to stubborn inflation and tariff wars. Even the strongest and largest player, McDonald's Corporation, cannot fully avoid the unfavorable situation as it capitalizes on cheaper pricing,” said Seeking Alpha analyst Asian Value Investor. Seeking Alpha analysts and Seeking Alpha’s Quant ratings are cautious and consider the stock a Hold, while Wall Street analysts rate it a Buy. “While I expect a slight top line earnings miss driven by an enterprise 3% comp and the Street looking for just a bit more, I think the strength of margins will end up mattering more, and the earnings report could serve to catalyze shares higher,” noted a recent Seeking Alpha analysis by Passage Research. It added that “Q2's marketing calendar looks to be trending in a better direction ahead of the Snack Wraps lap mid-year, so the setup seems to be improving for shares.” Research firm Erste Group expects McDonald's sales will grow more strongly again in 2026 than in the previous year. "McDonald's has a very high and stable operating margin, which is well above that of its competitors," highlighted the analyst team. Over the last three months, EPS estimates have seen one upward revision compared to 25 do...

Getty Images In my most recent article, entitled, " Why Isn't Oil Above $200 Yet? ," I explained that, given the magnitude of the disruption in petroleum supplies caused by the near total blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, the price of crude oil (CL1:COM, CO1:COM) could have been well above $200 by now -- if it were not for two very fortunate coincidences. The first of these factors is that global commercial oil inventories were at unusually high levels just before the conflict with Iran began. As a result, it has been a fortunate happenstance that these excess inventories have been available to be drawn upon in order to plug the enormous gap (14 mpbd) in supply-demand flows that have been caused by the near-complete closure of maritime oil traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. However, as we shall see in this article, global commercial inventories and strategic petroleum reserves [SPR] are being drawn down at the fastest rate in history. In this article I am going to explain how quickly these inventory levels are crashing down and what it means for global oil prices and for the global economy. How Low Do Inventories Have to Fall Before A Crisis Detonates? In my previous article entitled, “ Why Isn’t Oil Above $200 Yet? ,” I explained that prior to the start of the U.S.-Israel versus Iran conflict, crude oil inventories were at a 5-year high of 31 days of cover. 30 days cover is the minimum level of inventories that is considered “comfortable.” At 24 days of cover, inventories reach a level that is considered to be “critical” from a petroleum engineering standpoint. Table 1: OECD Commercial Crude Oil Inventories Oil Inventory Levels in Days Cover (JP Morgan) After inventories are drawn down to the critical level of 24 days of cover, they can no longer be used to plug supply gaps without causing stress in the system. For example, if inventories are drawn down any further, some refineries will be forced to delay their runs or cut them altogether. Schedules and function...
