If additional phases of the semiconductor production facility are completed, the total cost could be around $119B, the documents added. News of the spending amount was first reported by Bloomberg . Some analysts have speculated that the project may have to raise outside money, given the cost and complexity of building a semiconductor plant. The project would begin with a smaller advanced fabrication facility capable of designing and testing a wide range of chips, with ambitions to scale into a much larger operation. Elon Musk, who leads Tesla and SpaceX, has argued that current chipmakers are not expanding fast enough to meet the demands of next-generation AI systems. Without the Terafab, “we don’t see a path to having enough” chips for AI given “the rate at which the industry is growing,” Musk told investors recently. The proposed fab would produce two main types of chips: lower-power processors for vehicles, robotaxis, and humanoid robots; and higher-performance chips designed for space-based computing. On the commercial side, the company's sole product Vyjuvek for Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa (DEB) recorded $116.4M in sales, an increase of 32% YoY, beating analyst estimates by 3.6%. The drug began its commercialization roll-out in Germany, France and Japan, with an estimated 140 patients broadening the prescriber base, in addition to 60 new domestic prescriptions for the quarter. Following FDA approval in 2023, Vyjuvek has generated $847M in sales with 695 secured reimbursement approvals. Perhaps most impressively, gross margins continued to widen, reaching 95% in Q1. This translated down the income statement, delivering $55.9M in net income, or $1.83 in GAAP EPS, beating consensus estimates by $0.39. In summary, Vyjuvek sales grew faster than expected, while also earning more on each dollar of sales. However, Krystal intends to expand beyond a single gene therapy. The company's moat is secured by a patented gene therapy platform that uses an engineered herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1) to efficiently deliver vectors of therapeutic transgenes to cells in multiple organ systems. In 2026 two registrational readouts are anticipated, with additional programs advancing in ophthalmology, respiratory, dermatology, oncology, as well as the wholly owned Jeune Aesthetics.
