The plans come amid a tentative ceasefire in the Iran war, which saw Tehran target assets in Arab states across the Persian Gulf in retaliation for US-Israeli strikes that began in February. The conflict roiled global energy markets, and Saudi Arabia’s quarterly economic growth slowed to its lowest pace since mid-2024. The turbulence has also filtered through to venture capital firms. Startup funding in the Middle East and North Africa was flat year-on-year at $799 million in the first quarter, according to data platform Magnitt, as international investor participation slowed.
