An oil tanker transporting Russian fuel to Cuba appears to have stalled roughly 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers) off the coast, dealing a fresh blow as the island faces its worst fuel crisis in decades. The ship, a sanctioned Russian tanker named Universal, has been drifting on the ocean since mid-April, when it halted the voyage that started in Russia, according to vessel movements tracked by Bloomberg. It’s carrying nearly 270,000 barrels of diesel for the island nation, data from maritime intelligence firm Vortexa Ltd. show. The Universal’s arrival is uncertain as many vessels have in the past diverted away from Cuba for fear of seizure by US naval forces amid a near-total energy blockade. This year, one sole ship, the Anatoly Kolodkin, succeed in delivering oil, and only after obtaining a temporary reprieve from the Trump administration, which allowed passage to help mitigate the island’s energy crisis. Still, Cuba is in desperate need of more oil to generate power and fuel transport. Russia vowed to follow the Anatoly Kolodkin with another shipment, without disclosing arrival details. Meanwhile, the Cuban government has boosted efforts to revive domestic oil production and reduce reliance on imports. On Tuesday , the state oil company announced it replaced equipment that would allow two of Cuba’s largest oil wells to increase production by 30%, according to video posted on X.

Alberta Separatists Say They Have Enough Signatures To Force Referendum On Leaving Canada A group pushing for Alberta to break free from Canada announced Monday that it has submitted nearly double the number of signatures required to force a referendum -- which could come as early as October. While Alberta Premier Danielle Smith opposes independence, she has assured Albertans that she will not try to thwart a referendum if the signature hurdle were cleared. A signature in support of an independence referendum is collected atop a mountain in Alberta (via Stay Free Alberta) Triggering a referendum requires 178,000 signatures, but the separatist organization Stay Free Alberta says it amassed more than 301,000. As in the United States, referendum organizers usually aim to far overshoot the required number so as to survive challenges on the validity of individual signatures. On Monday, the group's leader, Mitch Sylvestre descended on Alberta's election offices in Edmonton with the petitions, aboard a convoy seven trucks strong. Celebrating the accomplishment, he likened it to Canada's favorite sport. “This day is historic in Alberta history,” he said. “It’s the first step to the next step — we’ve gotten by Round 3 and now we’re in the Stanley Cup final .” Despite Sylvestre's triumphalism, the independence drive could hit a snag this week, as a judge may rule on a challenge of the referendum filed by a First Nations group. That term is used to describe indigenous people who are not Inuit or Métis . Their legal challenge centers on the claim that Albertan independence would deny them privileges afforded them by treaties. The verification of referendum-support signatures has been stayed pending the decision. However, Stay Free Alberta attorney Jeff Rath said these are mere speed bumps. "As far as we're concerned, whatever the court does or whatever Elections Alberta does at this point is meaningless,” he told CBC , given the premier can't ignore more than 300,000 signatures...

Big Event Media | HumanX | Getty Images Super Micro Computer shares jumped 19% in extended trading on Tuesday after the server maker issued strong guidance, although revenue for its fiscal third quarter came in below estimates. Here's how the company did in comparison with LSEG consensus: Earnings per share: 84 cents adjusted vs. 62 cents expected Revenue: $10.24 billion vs. $12.33 billion expected Revenue jumped 123% year over year in the quarter, which ended on March 31, according to a statement . For the fiscal fourth quarter, management called for 65 cents to 69 cents in adjusted earnings per share on $11 billion to $12.5 billion in revenue. The LSEG consensus was for earnings of 55 cents per share and $11.07 billion in revenue. Super Micro has carved out a position in the artificial intelligence boom, selling servers that are packed with Nvidia's graphics processing units. However, the company has been beset by other challenges. During the quarter, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York charged associates of an unidentified U.S. server maker with illegally diverting billions of dollars in Nvidia -powered servers to China. The indictment did not name Super Micro, but the company said one defendant was a co-founder and executive, another was a manager, and the third was a contractor. CEO Charles Liang told investors in March, "It appears that Supermicro has been a victim of the elaborate schemes orchestrated by these individuals, which deceived both federal authorities and our internal compliance team." Wally Liaw, the co-founder and executive described in the indictment, no longer has any relationship to the company and left the board, Liang wrote. As of Tuesday's close, Super Micro shares were down about 5% for the year, while the S&P 500 had gained 6% in the same period. In ...
