Thawatchai Chawong/iStock via Getty Images By Jonathan Hunt Private credit is becoming the engine driving Europe’s energy transition. We are living in an era of rising electricity demand. The electrification of vehicles and buildings, the construction of AI data centers and efforts to decarbonize industry are creating a deep pipeline of renewable energy opportunities for investors around the globe. But in Europe, there’s another catalyst: energy security. Energy security has long been a hallmark of European Union policy. Renewable energy—primarily solar and wind—already accounts for more than 60% of the European Union’s installed electricity capacity—well above the share of renewables in the United States. But that isn’t enough to meet total energy demand. The United States, on the other hand, is a net energy importer ( Display ). For Europe, imported natural gas typically fills the gap. But the war in Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz have pushed gas prices higher and driven up electricity bills. A similar power price spike followed the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022. This matters because European electricity prices are set by the most expensive energy source needed to meet demand—usually natural gas. When gas prices rise, electricity bills go up, even if the power was generated by wind farms. As European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen put it recently, the EU has spent an additional €24 billion on energy imports since the Iran war started “without receiving a single extra molecule of energy.” Satisfying a Long-Term Need At the policy level, governments are doubling down on efforts to reduce dependence on energy imports and boost domestic renewable power development. This includes plans to accelerate the shift to homegrown energy as a replacement for imported gas, oil and other fossil fuels. These efforts stand to complement other ambitious EU decarbonization goals . EU policy also calls for maximizing the use of existing renewable ene...

Kraken, one of the world’s oldest cryptocurrency exchanges, has cut some staff to reduce costs and may not go public as soon as initially expected due to a sharp decline in digital-asset prices, according to a person familiar with the matter. The company, which operates under the corporate name Payward Inc. , eliminated about 150 workers after implementing AI technology that improved efficiency, according to the person, who was not authorized to speak publicly. Kraken is deploying AI more extensively throughout the company though further job cuts are not planned at the moment, the person said. Kraken’s initial public offering now may not happen until later this year or even in early 2027, the person said. It was previously expected to IPO as soon as this spring. “We don’t comment on specific personnel or operational decisions,” a Kraken spokesperson said. “As a high-performance culture, we continually evaluate and evolve our organization to ensure we have the right structure and talent in place to optimize growth and deliver for our clients.” The job cuts were first reported by CoinDesk. Like peers, Kraken is facing a difficult crypto market. Bellwether Bitcoin is still down nearly 40% since its all-time high last October, which has had cascading effects across the industry. Rival Coinbase Global Inc. recently cut 14% of its staff, and Gemini Space Station Inc. has slashed about 30% of its workforce since the beginning of the year. Both companies also cited efficiencies gained through AI. In February, Kraken said its revenue and earnings fell sequentially in the fourth quarter while digital asset prices tumbled and investor demand plummeted. Kraken didn’t provide year-over-year comparisons. Crypto exchanges typically make the largest chunk of their revenues from trading fees, and many traders — particularly retail — remain on the sidelines.

MF3d/iStock via Getty Images When I first reported on Infleqtion ( INFQ ) in mid-March, my argument was three-fold: That quantum computing was being embraced by elite institutions faster than expected. That the company’s tech was differentiating, and its diverse product line gave it a sustainable edge to other rivals. That "quantum navigation" would solve the US military's GPS-jamming problem , and Infleqtion had the right hardware already in existence. The thesis proved to be correct. In April, a string of impressive contracts with US defense agencies were reported. On May 14 th, Infleqtion announced 1Q 2026 earnings : revenues for the quarter were $9.5 million, up 14% year over year. GAAP EPS was -$0.26, with a sizable loss from operations of $33.6 million, though the company has a solid $569 million in cash as of March 31, 2026. Management increased its revenue estimate for 2026 to $40 million and gave better color on its customer base and a product line that had just expanded in the prior week. Infleqtion has room to run. The next nine months will be critical. The Company Founded in 2007, Infleqtion was originally known as ColdQuanta before rebranding itself ahead of a January SPAC merger with Churchill Capital Corp X. The company emerged out of academic research conducted at the University of Colorado Boulder, building an intellectual property portfolio of more than 230 issued and pending patents. Its founding CEO, Dana Anderson, a professor of physics and engineering at the university, led the company from 2007 through 2024 and continues to serve as Chief Science Officer. Infleqtion’s core differentiation as a quantum company is its focus on “neutral atom” technology. Unlike competing approaches that rely on charged ions or superconducting circuits, neutral atoms are naturally identical and require minimal defect correction. The architecture is less susceptible to “environmental noise” —one of the central challenges in quantum computing—and can operate without...

frantic00/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Investment Thesis Microsoft Corporation ( MSFT ) is well known as one of the powerhouse companies of the S&P 500 Index ( SP500 ), and they are also known for their current direct involvement with artificial intelligence. Recently, MSFT has significantly underperformed the market and peers as investor sentiment shifts. However, this may open the opportunity for long-term investors to buy a great company at a great price. Based on fundamental analysis and weighing the current risks that investors are pricing in, I believe MSFT presents a Strong Buy at the current price levels, with the opportunity for significant price appreciation. Further, their gaming segment continues to be overlooked, which may significantly benefit from the use of artificial intelligence. Data by YCharts Previous Coverage I originally discussed MSFT back in April 2025 with an article titled Microsoft: The Story Nobody’s Talking About. I focused my attention on MSFT’s videogame business segment, where I explained how they’ve been quietly building a very diverse portfolio for that space and that they would continue to see revenue from their subscription service with new popular titles releasing over the next few years. I also analyzed their fundamentals and rated the stock a buy. Later, I updated this article in June 2025 with an article titled Microsoft Corporation Continues To Be The Story Nobody's Talking About. In this coverage, I highlighted the shadow-dropped Oblivion Remaster videogame release and the wide popularity among consumers. I also highlighted their upcoming 2025 Xbox Games showcase. Since initiating coverage on the company, a lot has evolved, and the stock soared to over $500/share at one point. Recently, there has been some pullback in share price due to various concerns, but this may open an opportunity to investors if you can justify valuation today. Recent Earnings MSFT reported their Q3 earnings a few weeks ago at the end of April, ...
