mohd izzuan/iStock via Getty Images In February of this year, I wrote an article on Blue Owl Capital ( OBDC ), elaborating on the reasons that motivated me to assign it a buy rating. It was the same old argument of a too-steep discount relative to the intrinsic value. What made OBDC's case particularly interesting was its abnormally deep discount. This was (and still is), among other things, likely driven by its linkage to poorly performing Blue Owl Capital ( OWL ) following unsuccessful merger attempts between OBDC and OBDC II and liquidity gating. While this situation might sound risky, in reality, it has nothing to do with OBDC's underlying fundamentals. Since the publication of that piece, OBDC is up by ~2%. Now, right before the Q1 earnings season, I noticed a couple of new data points based on which I issued a follow-up piece: Blue Owl Capital Corporation: 3 Pressures Mounting And How To Play It. I had three observations and one clear message to investors before Q1 data: OBDC's NII per share would likely contract due to lower base rate headwinds and unfavorable debt refinancing. OBDC's NAV per share would likely drop given the monthly NAV statists published by strongly correlated (overlapping) private sister BDCs. OBDC's dividend would likely get cut in Q1 (many drivers). The message (excerpt from the article): "As a long-term investor, I remain bullish on OBDC. But if I were seeking short-term gains (say in 2026, but especially in Q1 or Q2), I would move on from OBDC". Looking at the Q1 2026 data , the dividend cut and subdued share price (despite underlying fundamental strengths), show that my thesis has nicely come to a fruition. And I have to say that when it comes to my long-term investment conviction in OBDC, nothing has changed. In fact, based on the recent data, my base case now is that we could see a decent rally of OBDC already in Q2 or Q3. Let me explain. Thesis review On the surface, the Q1 results don't look good. Both key metrics - adjusted NII a...

My President Went To Beijing And All I Got Was This Crummy T-Shirt Authored by Peter Tchir via Academy Securities, Stocks rallied after Jensen hopped on AF1 in Alaska. They rallied several times yesterday on Iran/China headlines, on Boeing selling planes headlines, and other soundbites from the much heralded Xi and Trump Summit. As discussed in Wednesday’s report China and Trade , we did not have high expectations regarding this meeting. We did feel that the President wanted a deal badly enough, that we would get something to help markets, even though it seemed like China had a marginally better/better hand than the U.S. What we were not expecting was a perfunctory set of meetings and press conferences . The President is many things, but perfunctory is rarely one of them . Perfunctory describes an action carried out quickly, superficially, or carelessly, usually as a routine duty rather than out of genuine interest or care. It implies a lack of enthusiasm, effort, or thoroughness, often done merely to get a task finished . (via AI finding the Merriam Webster definition). With a truly impressive entourage of politicians, political appointees and business leaders, the stage seemed set for something “bigger” than what we got. We often get more market moving social media posts in the middle of the night than we got as part of this historic meeting. I did not have high expectations, but I was hoping for more than what we got. I would rather have seen some confrontation and pushing an agenda, than what seemed quite “perfunctory”. It leaves me (and possibly markets) a little confused . Have stocks been pumped as high as they can? What decision does the President make with Iran over the weekend? It did not seem like there was any commitment from China to help, and according to at least some comments from the President, China was not asked to help. Really, not sure what to make of the lack of headlines, but cannot help but think of those souvenir T-Shirts saying My President...

Nvidia Corporation ( NVDA ) and Broadcom ( AVGO ) are huge players in CPO, and firms that gain qualification in their supply chains can be massive beneficiaries Nvidia’s Rapid Networking Roadmap Is a Key Driver for AI Stocks Within the AI investment theme, there is nowhere that the supply chain shifts faster than in networking, leading companies to gain content on new platforms or lose incremental share. The reason is straightforward: much of the market is tied to a single customer, Nvidia; and Nvidia is rolling out new architectural iterations at an unusually fast pace. When it comes to networking, two of the most important architectural advancements are the increase in pod and cluster sizes and the transition to 200G per lane. Last month, Nvidia made $2 billion equity investments in two separate optical component suppliers: Coherent ( COHR ) and Lumentum ( LITE ). Nvidia is securing its supply chain as it ramps its co-packaged optics (CPO) roadmap and writing big checks to do so. These targeted moves signal that CPO, the next major architectural shift in AI networking, is moving from theory to reality. Below, we break down why this transition is taking place and the key companies involved in the secular trend toward CPO. Nvidia’s Move to Larger Pods: Scale-Up from NVL72 to NVL576 and Beyond With Blackwell and Blackwell Ultra, Nvidia was fundamentally focused on solving scale-up problems, where the primary challenge is binding large numbers of GPUs into a single coherent node with a unified memory using ultra-dense, low-latency NVLink fabrics. This led to NVL72, which packed 72 GPUs into one rack, acting as one giant GPU. Howeve...

Sundry Photography/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Almost to the day one year ago—on May 17, 2025—I published my last article about Zoom Communications, Inc. ( ZM ). In my opinion, the stock, which has declined steeply following the pandemic hype in 2020 and 2021, was still not a great investment, and I rated the stock as a “Hold.” In the conclusion I wrote: Of course, Zoom would be undervalued if we assume the company can grow its free cash flow in the mid-single digits in the next few years. And while such a scenario does not seem unreasonable, I don’t see any hints right now justifying calculating with higher growth rates. Additionally, Zoom is now trading almost 20% higher than in October 2024 when my last article was published without the business improving. Finally, we don’t know how the economic world will develop in the years to come. Right now, the level of uncertainty is extremely high and the risk of a recession in the United States can also be seen as rather high. In the last twelve months, Zoom’s stock price increased 22%, and especially in the last few weeks, the stock gained in value. Now, depending on the point of view, we can either see Zoom as a good investment, as it gained 22% within 12 months, which is certainly a great performance, or we can see it only as a mediocre investment, as the S&P 500 gained even 26% in the same timeframe. Next week, on May 21, 2026, Zoom will report first-quarter results, and in the following article, I will argue why Zoom remains a “Hold” and the stock is only fairly valued—despite the stake in Anthropic and the huge amounts of cash and cash equivalents on its balance sheet. Annual Results When looking back at the results for the last fiscal year, Zoom did report solid results but certainly not high growth rates. Revenue increased from $4,665 million in fiscal 2025 to $4,869 million in fiscal 2026, resulting in 4.4% year-over-year growth. Income from operations increased 38.2% year-over-year from $813.3 million in ...

Per the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data published May 12, prices rose 3.8% year over year, driven by a 17.9% surge in energy costs from the U.S.-Iran conflict, which is blocking oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. The official reading for core inflation, which strips out food and energy from the comprehensive inflation data, climbed to 2.8%, a bit above expectations. These figures are, broadly speaking, bearish for the crypto sector, but Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) , Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH) , and Solana (CRYPTO: SOL) will each face the consequences somewhat differently, so let's dig in and analyze the situation.
