Schiff: "Real Rates Are Going To Collapse"; Dollar Confidence Crisis Gold or Bitcoin: which can anchor the next reserve system? Last night, in a ZH debate hosted by Real Vision's Ash Bennington, Peter Schiff argued for gold’s role as the future global reserve currency, while Mark Moss made the case for Bitcoin, arguing that it is gaining traction on sovereign balance sheets as of 2025. They covered America's dwindling reserve status, fundamental monetary properties, and the nature of governments. Here were some highlights for those short on time: Gold: Tried and True Schiff argued that Bitcoin does not meet the definition of money and therefore cannot compete with gold, which he described as the foundational reserve asset backing currencies. He also pointed to current market trends, arguing that “foreign central banks are already moving more of their US dollar reserves into gold because they are losing confidence,” particularly in the U.S. government’s ability to repay debt without massive debasement. While acknowledging recent volatility, he maintained that gold’s decline is temporary and that “real rates are going to collapse, and that’s bullish for gold.” At a more fundamental level, money must have independent utility, according to Schiff. “It has to be a commodity… [with] its own use,” pointing to gold’s role in “industry… jewelry… aerospace… medicine… electronics” as what makes it “better money than other commodities,” and distinct from Bitcoin, which may be transferable but is solely a digital ledger. pic.twitter.com/vqdszTUvVQ — ZeroHedge Debates (@zerohedgeDebate) March 27, 2026 The Issue of Trust Moss emphasized the importance of custody, arguing that gold ultimately depends on intermediaries (unless stored in one’s basement) even when ownership is legally binding. Governments are not trustworthy and if they or the institution holding possession of the physical gold decide to renege, well ultimately, “they have control over the asset.” Shipping gold abroad...

The Nuki Smart Lock is the best retrofit smart lock currently available for people who want a minimalist, feature-packed upgrade to their preexisting deadlock. It’s currently selling for $149 at Amazon — its cheapest price ever — during the Big Spring Sale . Its fast unlocking speed, Matter-over-Thread support, and broad smart home compatibility impressed my colleague Jennifer Pattison Tuohy, enough for her to consider it the most advanced model she’s tested in her review . Nuki Smart Lock The Nuki Smart Lock makes it easy to upgrade your home security system without replacing your entire lock. It installs in minutes and can even sense when you’re approaching, automatically unlocking the door for you. It supports every major smart home platform through Matter, and you can easily share digital access with friends or family — perfect for when you’re on vacation and need someone to water the plants. Where to Buy: $199 $149 at Amazon The Nuki Smart Lock’s pricing history is a bit confusing. It originally launched for $159.99 when we reviewed it in July 2025. Months later, the company raised the cost to $199.99 while addressing some of our major criticisms, namely that a paid subscription ($5.90 per month) was no longer necessary to remotely unlock the Nuki over Wi-Fi, or to receive lock activity notifications. By purchasing one now, you’re getting the best-ever price with all of the features we wish were available at no cost from the beginning. For what it’s worth, you never needed to pay for the subscription to get access to some of the Nuki Smart Lock’s best features. As mentioned earlier, it supports a Matter-over-Thread connection, which is free to use (assuming you have a Matter hub and a Thread border router) and yields huge battery savings compared to controlling the Nuki Smart Lock solely over Wi-Fi.

Memory chip stocks that dominated semiconductor gains through much of 2026 are suddenly losing momentum, as a breakthrough from Alphabet 's Google raises questions about the durability of artificial intelligence-driven demand. Stocks including former leaders Micron Technology and Sandisk started selling off at the end of last week, but losses accelerated this week after Google unveiled a new compression technique , dubbed TurboQuant, that could cut memory requirements for AI large language models sixfold. The slide reflects investor concern that one of the industry's most powerful tailwinds — surging demand for high-bandwidth memory tied to AI — may prove weaker than previously thought. The development "highlights emerging efficiencies that could reduce memory intensity in AI workloads," Evercore ISI said. "The market may be beginning to price in a more favorable cost/supply backdrop." That could ease cost pressures for hardware buyers such as server makers, with Evercore ISI pointing to potential upside for companies including Dell Technologies and Hewlett Packard Enterprise if lower memory requirements improve system economics. Before this latest sell-off, memory stocks were some of the best performers in the market this year, with Sandisk almost tripling, up 170%, and Micron rising more than 40%. DeepSeek moment Morgan Stanley described the development as "another DeepSeek moment ," arguing the read-through is broadly positive for hyperscalers and model platforms given the improved economics of AI deployment. Cheaper per-query costs, particularly in long-context and retrieval-heavy applications, could drive stronger returns on investment and wider adoption. At the same time, Morgan Stanley said the implications for computing and memory are "neutral" in the near term. While compression reduces memory traffic and GPU-hours required per workload, lower costs per token could spur greater usage, potentially offsetting some of the demand impact. UBS urged calm, saying ...
