(RTTNews) - European markets settled higher on Thursday with investors largely keeping an eye on the U.S.-China Summit in Beijing and closely following the developments in the United Kingdom, in addition to reacting to corporate earnings announcements.

The Senate Banking Committee largely voted along party lines, 15-9, with Democratic Sens. Ruben Gallego , of Arizona, and Angela Alsobrooks, of Maryland, joining all Republicans on the panel to vote for the bill. The measure has a long way to go before becoming law, given both powerful opposition and the fact that it would need to clear the full Senate as well as the House before heading to President Donald Trump 's desk. During the hearing, both Republicans and Democrats committed to continue working through areas of disagreement, including how best to ensure bad actors using digital assets can be caught and ethics language to address elected officials, like Trump, who have profited from crypto. Sen. Mark Warner , D-Va., one of several Democrats who has worked with Republicans on the bill, said while he was in "crypto hell the last couple months" he hopes to continue working on the bill and "get to crypto heaven." "I guess I'm right now in crypto purgatory, but I'm looking forward to getting all the way there," he said. At the other end of the spectrum, we have Aptera, which has been trying to bring a three-wheeled, ultra-efficient electric vehicle to market since 2006. Needless to say, there have been more than a few stumbles along the way, but this week, the long-running saga got a new verse as the first validation models were assembled, bringing the EV one step closer to the market. The rapid expansion of sports prediction markets is hurting DraftKings Inc. , according to the stock’s only bear on Wall Street. BNP Paribas started coverage on the sports betting company Thursday with the stock’s only sell-equivalent recommendation, flagging the “ dramatic threat ” of Kalshi Inc. and Polymarket over the last year. The risks loom even though DraftKings rolled out its own prediction market app in December, said analyst Charlie Muir-Sands in a note to clients. “The aggressive expansion of federally regulated prediction markets looks set to significantly dampen DraftKings’ growth and moderate margin expansion,” Muir-Sands wrote. According to a survey by BNP Paribas, there is a “significant overlap” between prediction-market and DraftKings users. More than 50% of Kalshi and Polymarket users are also using DraftKings sportsbook, according to Muir-Sands. While DraftKings shares flip-flopped on Thursday, they have been down 27% so far this year, and are 65% from its peak in March 2021. Additionally, he said a growing anti-gambling sentiment in the US could lead to tighter ‘responsible gambling’ rules or higher taxes. “We see risks to earnings, especially if tax rates rise whilst valuation multiples still seem stretched despite the shares’ 65% decline from their historic peak,” said Muir-Sands, adding that the risks have not yet been fully priced in. Cerebras Systems' ( CBRS ) shares hit the Nasdaq Global Select Market with one of the highest initial public offering prices in history at $185, with shares opening at $350. They had expected to price the IPO at $150 to $160 each but increased it to $185 on Monday as AI chip mania ran wild in the market. Arm Holdings ( ARM ) and SoftBank ( SFTBY )( SFTBF ) reportedly made attempts to acquire the chip startup ahead of the IPO, but their efforts were rebuffed. As recently as Monday, the company hoped to raise $4.8B during the IPO. Instead, it raised $5.55B. The company's flagship technology includes the Wafer-Scale Engine 3, or WSE-3, which it contends is the fastest commercialized AI processor in the world. The company claims it is 58 times larger than the leading GPU chip. It uses a fraction of the power per unit of compute while delivering inference up to 15 times faster than leading GPU-based solutions offered by competitor Nvidia ( NVDA ), Cerebras said. Its current customers include many of the top AI companies in the world, such as OpenAI ( OPENAI ), Amazon Web Services ( AMZN ), Meta Platforms ( META ), and IBM ( IBM ). Despite Nvidia being a primary competitor of Cerebras, its share value was unaffected and ticked up 4% by Thursday afternoon trading.
